They're more like guidelines, anyway. Over the past few months, and last month in particular, the membership of Fandom Wank has increased dramatically. Due to that, we thought it might be a good idea to remind people of the rules of the community and offer a few general guidelines for behavior. 1. Modding: On the whole, this is a self-modded community. (Mods were only instated in the first place because of heavy trolling.) Self-modding means that when someone does something that isn't cool, said uncool person gets told so or bitchslapped and they stop. Most of the time it's worked. 2. New posts: The above is rather helpful, as it enables people to see how they FW community feels about what's been posted - members aren't afraid to speak their minds. If they don't feel your post is suitable, they'll tell you. So please, there's no need for "I'm not sure whether this should be here" or "first wank!". If you don't think your post is wanky enough, or you're having to write long paragraphs about why you think that person is a wanker, maybe you shouldn't be posting it. 3. Personal wank: There's a place for wanks that you, or your friends have been personally involved in. It's called 4. Communities: On that note, there are now a whole host of specific FW communities: Check them out, they're pretty much self explainatory. 5. Icons: Something which has cropped up repeatedly over the last few months is the use of non-worksafe icons. Don't use them, they can get people fired. Just be considerate of others mmkay? 6. Mods: Although there is a clear list of the mods on the first FW page, many read FW through their flist and I'm sure no one bothers to read the useful information displayed in pleasing bright colours on the front page of the community ... yeah. For reference, the "active" mods here are: 7. We do not troll. 8. Pointing and laughing: We're Wankas, not wankers. We're here to laugh at people doing stupid things - think of it like one of those home video disaster shows. Most times we like to think that the people falling into streams and driving quadbikes into trees have learnt something from their mistakes, we don't get into deep discussions as to whose fault it was that the guy drove into the tree, we don't follow the guy around and poke him with a stick to see if he'll do it again; we laugh a little, exchange a quip with a friend and then we move on to the next hilarious scenario. 9. Debate: If everyone's saying that you're not funny and that you're taking things too seriously, they're probably right. Once again: we're here for the laughs. Serious discussion does occassionally pop up and most of the time it's interesting, but the point is not the debate which side is right or wrong. The point is to laugh at silly people doing silly things, and sometimes to make icons. But mostly it's the laughing thing. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email me. |
