Words fail me
I can't even begin to classify this wank.

And he's pretty sketchy on the concept of slash, too, since a lot of the pairing he lists are het. I clicked on one or two, and they were quite sucky. (Not in the good sense, either!)

Roy Orbison in cling-film is amusing, but the wank is really on this page.

"I'm in the process of collating the net's biggest directory of erotic fan fiction or 'slash'."

Followed by a list of pairings containing exactly FIVE active links. Yeah, buddy, happy collating; you're well on your way.

I read the first Roy in CLingfilm story. Totally over my head...how is Roy Orbison erotic in ANYONE's imagination? Clingfilm fetish? Okay, fine. Fetishes are, by definition, wacky anyway, so I have no quibble with the clingfilm...but I really didn't get the story at all.

Now, then. The pairings in the link....many of them I have never even heard of but I know that I never wanted to envision David Attenbotough in a clinch with *anyone*.

I admit that I got that far and could get no further. I'm still literally wiping tears of hysterical laughter off my face.

Roy Orbison

No one can ever say *anything* I write is weird.

I agree. I mean, I'm not one of those people who get all "Ewwwwwww!" when the girls talk about sex. But that doesn't mean I wanna SEE IT!

Someone posted something to metablog last week who didn't seem to get that slash didn't include het. I kind of scratched my head and said 'buh?'

Is this a new thing where people think the term slash encompasses all erotic fanfiction? Not to mention that slash doesn't have to be very erotic in many cases.

There *is* a school of thought which says that "slash" encompasses all non-canon pairings, be they heterosexual or homosexual.

I think they're on crack, myself, but that's another matter. I'm just saying that yes, some people do think that.

Yeah, they are on crack. Not very good crack, either.

So I suppose that they wouldn't consider canon m/m, f/f pairings slash?

That's right -- if the relationship is canon, then it can't be slash. 'Gayfic' gets used instead by some people instead as a description for, f'rex, QaF fanfic.

I can see the argument for canon pairings not being slash, although I'm not sure I agree with it. It tends to be made by people who take an interest in the sexual politics/queering the canon aspects of slash.

And then, of course, there's the Xena fandom, where they disdain the term "slash." Why, I don't know . . . I think there's some vague notion of it being derogatory. O.o

Oh no. They prefer the term "alternative."

*rolling eyes*

I was under the impression that most Xena *alt* writers came into the fandom completely ignorant of male slash and hence the unique label.

I hadn't even heard the term slash until I started read Trek fiction three years after being an obsessive Xena alternative/subtext fan. I didn't know anything else existed. I came across the male slash quite by accident (a pleasant accident to be sure).

To this day Xena "femslash" is still alt for me ;)

I don't know who Roy Orbison is, but can I just say that Roy is probably the least erotic name I've ever heard?

Except perhaps for Herman. Or Beverly.

No offense meant, Roy, Herman, and Beverly.

It's hard to tell if it's funny or wanky, whether intended or not. (If that made any sense.) Worth a few laughs anyway.

And the whole slash=het thing is one seriously wack wank, in any case.

Hee. This site had a run on Dave Barry's blog. Still funny. But jeez:

Great. Now I'm going to have to bleach my brain to get rid of the image of Saddam walking around in pink pigtails.

Oh, and I call for him putting something like "Moore/Limbaugh" under political commentators. :-D Or maybe something with "Moore/Coulter." (Be funny to see Ann's reaction.)
