Enterprise Wank: The Bring Back Kirk Generation
Star Trek: Enterprise, the newest and most loathed child of the Trekdom, has been battling against cancelation practically since the day it was born. Just a few days ago it ditched death one more year and it's producers (the Infamous Bergan and Braga --B&B for short) are now preparing for year 5, quite possibly Enterprise's last.

Their sekkrit weapon? A cameo by Shatner, aka, KIRK, quite possibly as Kirk himself... or as his grandfather... or as a Orion slave pimp lord... or Eval!Mirror Kirk.... But maybe as just plain old Kirk, Trek-continuity be damned.

Alas, Trek fans, as the fickle little devils they are, have begun to speculate on how BB should bring back our dearly deceased Kirk, last seen under a mountain of rubble in Generations and if he should bring him back at all. Here and here

Much "OMG it's gonna suck -- no its not--- I HATE YOU, I HATE YOU ALL" ensures.

And while THAT'S going on, a guy called Scorned has a meldown and battles it out against his friend Spacebeluga for the love of a woman Kirk!

Scorned: Regardless if I was in the episode or not. You are still going to watch it. You swallow all of that other Berman crap and this boring Xindi arc, so why bitch now?

----

Noraa: Well, first, I thinks spacebeluga was being sarcastic in his post. Second, of all the people on this board, spacebeluga definitely doesn't "swallow" any of B&B's "crap." He has been rather critical of Enterprise in the past, and defintiely still is.

I really don't get you man...space usually defends you with your anti-Enterprise stuff, and now you are attacking him? What gives?

----

Spacebeluga: Hey, Scorned's a bit nuts, but otherwise what would give him his..."unique"...identity? :-)

BTW Scorned, this is about the most absurd statement I've ever heard you make:

"You swallow all of that other Berman crap and this boring Xindi arc, so why bitch now?"

I'd be really suprised if you actually haven't seen my review of the latest episode, not to mention my countless critical posts about Enterprise. In fact, I distinctly remember sharing my opinion of B&B to you in the past at least a couple of times.

Yep, you're nuts. :-)

----

Scorned: Quote:" Hey, Scorned's a bit nuts, but otherwise what would give him his..."unique"...identity? :-)"

Oh the sarcasm. How do you do it? yawn!!!!!!!!!

Quote:"I'd be really suprised if you actually haven't seen my review of the latest episode, not to mention my countless critical posts about Enterprise. In fact, I distinctly remember sharing my opinion of B&B to you in the past at least a couple of times.

As a matter of fact I haven't bothered reading any of your comments on ENT lately. You are taking my statement way to seriously.

Quote:"Yep, you're nuts. :-)"

Not as nuts as your bizarre temper tantrum over this Kirk return thing.

---

They kiss and make later on, but jeez...SOMEbody needs to be laa-iid!

Wait...wait...

...doesn't Enterprise take place before the rest of the ST canon anyway? I mean, why does it matter if Kirk has died, since this is technically before that? You wouldn't have to bring a man back from the dead for something that happened before he died...

...of course, my knowlege of ST is very limited, so I could be wrong. I was always more of an SW girl meself.

And for some reason, this line amused the hell outta me:

Yes. Mirror Kirk would be an interesting idea. Perhaps MK will ultimately lead to the downfall of Future Guy through the help of Archer and Co. Therefore, if he stops Archer than he stops MK from stopping FG. I dunno.

It just...saying it out loud is hilarious.

Also....

All you bring back Kirk fans who claim that anybody who disagrees with you does not understand TOS and is not a real fan are now going to accept one of B&B's ridiculous cheap plot devices to bring back Kirk?

YOU'RE NOT A REAL FAN 'CAUSE YOU LIKE STUFF AND DON'T BITCH AND GRIPE! ARGGHKJLH!!111!1

He's not alive yet, yo. But if he was in ENT he'd have to be from the future. Where he's dead. Unless he wasn't dead yet. But that's just silly...

Uhm, well, Enterprise takes place about 100 years before TOS (given I still remember my Trek correctly). In my mental calculator, that leads to "DOES NOT COMPUTE, ERROR, ERROR, SHUT DOWN" when I try to insert Kirk into it. Then again, a lot does when Trek's concerned, so...

But Trek has been dead for me since DS9 ended, so I couldn't care less *shrugs*

Enterprise is the "most loathed child of the Trekdom"? No, that's VOYAGER, the biggest load of crap ever made. Then again, I may be a tad biased.

Since McCoy, Scotty, Sulu & Spock have all shown up in Trek spinoffs, why not Kirk? Frankly, I'd love to see him get killed a 3rd time (yay, Generations!).

I'm sorry. What was the topic again?

Kirk did show up in an ST spinoff. Remember the Tribble episode of DS9? OK, it wasn't Old Fat Kirk, but I'd rather watch Young Rakish Kirk anyday.

I've always quite liked Enterprise. Feel a bit isolated here.

According to an interview, Shatner was actually lobbying B&B for the episode, and he had the idea for how to fit Kirk in. So any die hard trekkies can blame him for that, if they want. I didn't know they'd actually picked up the episode, but if they're that pushed to keep Ent on the airwaves of course they accepted it.

I seem to be having a SciFi night. First long ranty comments on Star Wars (Livejournal's starwars_eu comm - if a few more people post there might be a minor wank beginning. It's a pretty small comm, but the whole thing seems to have started elsewhere, so there might be more ranting there) and then turning up here to find Star Trek stuff. I feel traitor enough for liking both!

Hilariously enough, I can play the 'Amok Time' mental soundtrack at any given momenent in my mind. Hmmm....that sounded so much more sane before typing it. :) Also, I don't watch this version of Star Trek, but I'd tune in just to see Shatner play some approximation of Kirk. The pointing and laughing value of that one cameo can not be overstressed.

I've never seen ENT, so I don't know if it's any good or not. I'd probably like it if I saw it, though, just because I tend to like shows that most people hate, the exception being 7th Heaven.

As far as Kirk is concerned, well, I've never really paid too much attention to the continuity in Trek. After all, none of the writers do, so why should I? Kirk appearing on a show set one hundred years before his birth is A-Okay with me. If all else fails, we can just blame it on the inter-series irritant/scapegoat, Q. Or we could blame it on Q, my ferret. Either way works fine for me.

Okay, I really don't mean to cause wank here, but, um... we're talking about Trek. Plot holes are kind of a canon staple, and every single problem can be fixed by reversing the polarity.

I'm sure this has already been brought up somehow, but... er...

If a cameo by Leonard Nimoy makes me want to see the Simpson episode in question all the more, a guest appearance by Bill Shatner is going to make me grab the remote in horror and fling it at the telly.

What do they mean, *improve* anything by bringing Shatner into it?
