QAF (US) -- Fan tells Randy Harrison like it is! Or, you know, not.
OK, this is my very first time posting here, and feel free to smack me down if this isn't wank. Especially because I tried to read the most recent wank concerning rivier and I came out of it not knowing how to make heads or tails out of anything, including what's a good wank and what is trolling? @_@;;

Anyway, back in the QAF fans community, concqafan4truth posts the following letter

Dear Randy,

After reading recent interviews of yours, there were some things that I wanted to tell you, on behalf of certain segments of the Queer as Folk fan base as well as myself. Please remember that I’m speaking as someone who loves Queer as Folk and loves your acting ability.

First, most of us realize that you are not Justin. Really. The people who don’t get it, are obviously NOT getting it based on what you’re saying…so, moving right along.

Second, almost every young, previously unknown actor has to deal with being typecast after playing only one role for five years. Get over it. It’s likely that you knew this when you signed the contract, but you thought the tradeoff was worth it. You’re talented, and you can snap out of it. Also, would you rather be typecast, or entirely unknown because you never had the opportunity – an opportunity, may I add, that so many others who are very talented never received? Please, be grateful for the chance you were given.

Third, what purpose does the constant snarking at Brian and Justin serve? Yes, I realize that you are trying to anger the fans, but other than that. Perhaps it’s not realistic – that’s why it’s called television! And Queer as Folk is not a reality television show. So, stop belaboring the obvious.

Fourth, do you not feel that you have some sort of obligation to a show to which you’re contractually attached, to the network that’s paying you, and to your fellow actors – as in, not to badmouth and trash the show so much? Honesty is one thing, and I admire it. But, this is called basic PR. Being an adult. Not biting the hand that feeds you – and damn well, in this case.

Fifth, as a fan insightfully pointed out recently – you haven’t even watched the show for two years, so you haven’t seen how the finished product plays out. How much of a position are you even in to announce what’s realistic and what’s not?

Sixth, I think you should realize that there’s only so much that a lot of us are going to be willing to support future projects of actors who look down on us…why? Because we’re female? Because we’re straight or bisexual, rather than gay? Because you’ve had bad experiences with a mere handful of fans who belong to the same demographic as we do? Because you hoped that the demographics of those watching the show would be different than they currently are – because we’re not the fans you hoped to have? Because we – GOD FORBID! – actually like a show that you’re a part of, and actually like about and care for the characters and storylines – and this thought baffles you?

Thank you for your attention to this letter.

Sincerely,

A Concerned Fan

PS Just to soften the “blow” of realizing that your fans aren’t automatically cool with your saying anything under the sun, I also wanted to tell you think I think you’re really hot, and that you and Gale have amazing chemistry as Brian and Justin.

The person, who has obviously created the account a few... minutes ago? Maybe an hour? (I'm not in the same time zone so I can't tell) explains the reason to post the letter at QAF fans in "OMG They abused the person because they had poor grasp on the English language. They are MEAN!" fashion: This was originally posted at the Yahoo group called QAF-BrianandJustinspoilers. It was deleted there for being "off topic", even though the administrators of the group apparently did not consider the subject of writing Randy Harrison a letter to express frustration off topic a week ago. Because the person who posted that message wasn't able to use proper English, members were allowed to jump all over that post.

I'm not sure if the person (troll?) means the person who wrote the letter does not speak English as a first language or is (ahem) maybe too stupid to use proper English? The poster does not explain him/herself too properly either. O_oU

(I must give props to the members of the community for being sane and not taking the bait. Heh heh. Considering previous wank from the same fandom, it's a relief.) :D

PS: OK, I had never checked the moods before posting this. They are fucking awesome! B-D

I'm not in the QAF fandom so is there any backstory to this?

Because I can understand where this is coming from, you see it a lot in the comics fandoms where the authors and artists treat the fans as if they're something they need to scrape off their shoe.

It does get a little tiresome being ragged on simply because you're a fan, and I don't mean a crazy tinhatty fan, but just someone who dares to read/watch and enjoy it.

Bleh, now I'm wanking.

Backstory:

- Randy Harrison cast to play Justin Taylor Blond Gay Boi Extraordinaire in Queer as Folk.
- Randy Harrison gets pissed off at fans (I'm going with the more general "fans" because I really don't know if he means the mandatory quota of stalkers or all of them). Also, Randy Harrison MIGHT have gotten pissed off at fans because SOME fans don't like that he's in a relationship with some guy rather than Gale Harold, his co-star.
- He's been giving interviews about these nasty feelings of his, and this letter refers to the latest.

Frankly, I don't want to comment much on the letter, especially because I would have to make the effort of reading it again (it's like 3 in the morning here and I'm kind of tired). But I kinda got the impression that the OP wanted to stir up some shit by talking about the Y!Group mods and creating a journal to be all anonymous-like.

Given that the members did not take the bait, doesn't that disqualify this as wank? J/w.

Ummm... maybe? As I said I am not sure, but I read somewhere that wank is something that is silly, and the whole post (sans comments) most definitely is.

(Do you want a code? I have just the one, but I've been itching to give it away. :D)

I agree that the message was wanky. I just thought that wank as it's used in FW always refers to an entire discussion/thread. But I really have no clue either. Yes, please, I'd like a code if you don't mind - can you email rl_owner@yahoo.com? Thanks...

Nah, wank doesn't have to be an entire thread. It's often more fun that way, but it's not, like, a requirement.

Geeze, we're not going to jump all in the community's jello just because they're mentioned here.

We might even congratulate them on their ability to turn bleak into a verb.

Hey! We're still mourning over Justin's haircut and Brian once again being cheated on by Justin and Justin wanking a psychopath and Brian losing his job (well, those of us who have not read all the spoilers, at least). Also, Justin is a genius and as his fans we are allowed genius behavior, such as using English as we deem appropiate!

(English is my second language, and grammar mistakes like these fly over my head. The Internet made me illiterate!!1one!eleventy!)

Besides that... *dies!* Sagralisse commented on my post! *turns sycophant*

I guess the wikipedia entry about trolls can answer all questions you might have and then some.
The only thing I missed about the entry is that people rarely troll on boards where they feel 'at home', because trolled places make uncomfortable whereabouts.

Your icon? ...It is a beautiful work of art and I love it.

God, Troy is SO mockable. I love it.

Wow, thanks!
It wasn't even planned as a pastede on icon. It was kind of an accident :)

And yes, we should all be very, very grateful for Troy.

I'm getting obsessed with these funeral pyres. Is there a support group community somewhere?

Oh, it was the extremely long-winded and poorly explained rants what eventually made me lose all remnants of sanity. As I've said elsewhere in this post, English is not my first language and if you write a long enough paragraph lacking any point whatsoever, you can manage to lose me pretty well. :P

Other than that, is there anything Wikipedia doesn't cover?! O_OU

I can sympathize, english is not my first language either. But I guess senseless babbling is just hard to understand, in any language. With the possible exception of teletubby-lingo.

Well, don't know about Wikipedia. The last time I tried to look up some second- and third-rate X-Men I had tough luck. They had the names, but no entries about them.
