There IS such a thing as search engines
Now one of the lovely members of F_W Chaobell has a nifty webcomic called W00T. -http://www.w00t-comic.net/-

Recently she started doing a storyline that's a parody/homage to the [in]famous Silent Hill series on the PS and PS2.

Problem is that some fans have been living under a rock don't know about the game and have decided to wank, whine about it in the comic's LJ.

Now on a personal note, I've never played the SH games myself, yet somehow I still manage to both get the jokes and find the strip entertaining.

Plus Chaobell recently posted links to some good SH sites with tons of info.

So my view on this is 'learn to use a search engine bitch'.

Funny... I thought the folks responding to the complainers were wankier -- take eightfold, f'rex, who simply is spooging everywhere with the "Righteous Defender of the W00t" wankness.

The folks responding to the complainers were rather wanky--though I found the first thread, the one with the 'once you get back to something I can understand wah wah' to be pretty whiny.

Yes and no. I can see their side of the argument: who wants to go looking stuff up just to get a webcomic joke? I mean, if it was about something like, say, the GDP of Botswana, and not an arcade game, would it be any worse?

The guys who rushed to expletives felt wankier than the others. Though the argument over spam was mildly entertaining.

Well I really have no idea what your talking about with the 'GDP of Botswana' comment but another poster here made a good point.

If you don't get it either look it up, which is rather EASY seeing as how it's well known game, or just skip reading the comic for a few days till the storyline is over.

Just sitting there bitching isn't going to solve your problems as it's probably not the author's fault you don't get the joke.

Actually, hon, nobody really needs to look anything up. All the important shit is explained right there in the strip.

I guess some people can't be bothered to, y'know, actually read the text I put in the strips. Or would you consider that too much to ask, too?

Agreed. From "Annoying that I don't know the game and thus can't enjoy the comic fully" to "Quit yet bitching and shut the fuck up." is a bit of a odd progression.

However, eightfold still wins the thread for using 'Gumpy' as a insult.

That's so far out of my gamer knowledge range that i'm walking around asking farmers in China if they get it.

Though, really, i'm worried that i'm a whiny bitch for not getting it. Do farmers in China like whiny bitches?

(This has been driving in a point with a axe theatre. Join us again next Thursday, when we say "Elijah is straight" in differing tones for the entire run of the episode.)

Have to say, they don't seem nearly as annoying (to me, YMMV) as [info]dragonbane. WTF? Apparently you aren't allowed to use your webcomic to talk about the things you enjoy? Thank you for your strangely condescending comment, buddy, but maybe, just maybe, things don't have to appeal to everyone all the damn time.

Agreement on the search engine view. Either fade out for a bit or look it up, s'that damn easy.

This is awesome. Someone complaining about someone doing a parody of a well-known video game that I don't even have to think about to understand.

Whereas, Penny Arcade does strips that you must devote a half hour of your time reading articles and looking up random Tycho-words in the dictionary to understand, and AFAIK, that's just peachy.

Yes, I adore Penny Arcade. I shall continue to struggle through Tycho's thesarus-attacked rants and read the articles, for the comic is Joy.

Oh, lord.

Honestly? This last guy, silentemotion or whatever? That one pretty much just rolled off my back, though I did want so very badly to reply to his comment with something like "Reading is FUNdamental!" I did end up freezing the thread; although it could have been some really entertaining stuff, I think I filled my monthly quota of wank with the otakukin strip. :)

That other guy, though? The condescending ass? I'm not going to publicly flame a reader, so I'm not going to tell you my exact reaction to that one, but I will say the letters "F" and "U" were involved.

I figure, out of about 2300 readers, I've got maybe five bitching about the storyline. Fuck 'em.

For what it's worth, I'm one of the ones who had no idea SH even existed before w00t, and I'm too lazy/scared (see below) to read up on it, and I'm still enjoying the SH jokes and storyline. :)

(Also, you've managed to make me creep myself out majorly with Pyramidhead. I don't know this game! I don't know what this thing is supposed to be! I was STILL hiding under the covers in fear! Damn you!)
