X Wank Alert!
At the beginning of this year, there was a particularly nasty explosion of X fandom wank. Well, apparently, one of those threads is making a comeback. And kids? "ctrl + w" is still her justification for a gushing, messy spooge-trip.

There are simply no words to describe this.

She basically outlined all of her other wank, complete with links, in this little 'essay' of hers, but if anyone at all is interested in the 'flyby attacker' she keeps referencing, I will kindly direct you here. Oh, God, what sin there is in not sugar-coating criticism and babying someone writing pointless nonsense! *facepalm*

(For the record, this isn't anti-SxK. This is anti-"you make my fandom look stupid!")

I don't know, on hand I have to partially agree with her, my experience in the X fandom is that if you ship something other than SxS or FxK, and end up mentioning it in a conversation, there's a good chance you'll be ripped a new one by the rabid SxS and FxK shippers.

On the other hand she does seem to be overreacting to some very mild criticism.

And in the end I do think that folks everywhere [myself included] probably should learn to *relax* when it comes to fictional pairings.

To be fair, I started out in Tokyo Babylon, as a hardcore SxS shipper. Then I got into X and became a hardcore FxK shipper. But I'm always on the lookout for good SxK. It's just a sad fact of fandom that a lot of the really good writers pan out to the 'Pairing Juggernauts.' What little I've seen of SxK really disappoints me, and I find it a bit depressing. Sadly, a lot of the X regulars have gotten to the point where they've stopped being diplomatic about it.

...But, yeah, I agree with the overreacting part. Definitely needs a chill pill.

Admit it, go read your first fic. You’d probably left it languishing in your hard drive because you were too shy to post.

No, I didn't publish it because it was a Harry Potter Young-Mrs.-Weasly!Sue which I knew sucked. I published the second one, because it didn't suck.

And the jealousy thing? Please. Fandoms are so big that no one really compares you to anyone else. Saying something is bad doesn't make you more liked in fandom unless you're right.

Actually, my first fic is still languishing in a notebook in my parents' attic, because when I wrote it, there was no internet. But hey, people keep telling me I don't look like I was born in 2 Ford, so why should I act like it? ;)

I am afraid that a lot of the X fandom folks are very protective of their one true pairing and will write essays on why a particular pairing will or won't work.

Oh. Her again. Well color me unsurprised. What some people in this fandom need to realize is that there is more than one pairing that can be backed up by canon (SubaruxSatsuki! OMFG! OPT!).

What I think is that some people enjoy more schmoop with their sex and they find a pairing that is more likely to have cutesy bunny sex and whisper sweet nothings (who cares about the characters, bring on the sccchhhmoooop!). And if you enjoy darker, more violent sex? Then OMFG, ur, liek, so weird. Because we all know Subaru has no destructive tendencies and he's not at all going to try to find the guy that scarred him for life, no sir-ee. >.>

Excuse my little tangent there. I get a giggle out of this every time it shows up here. Our dear friend Zed needs a nice wakeup call. Because not everyone has the same taste in fanfiction as she does... no wait, let's hope she doesn't get a wakeup call. I'm bored and in need of amusement.

Here's what I don't get: why does there need to be any canon basis at all? As far as I'm concerned, if someone wants to write, say, Fuuma/Yuzuriha and can do it convincingly, they can go ahead and knock themselves out. Maybe I'm being wanky myself here, but I just don't see why fic writers have to present the facts in evidence for every pairing they want to write.

*fetches tissues, cleans up spooge*

X is a manga (which was then made into an anime), that has lots and lots of pretty boys, all of whom are very, very slashable, and have a lot of basis in canon for being together. I mean, it's as homoerotic as you can get without actual shagging. The person who wrote that article supports a pairing that's not terribly popular.

My personal favorite is the part where Zed freaks right the hell out because someone was actually honest with a newbie about the quality of her fic instead of just gushing "WAI KAWAII" like everybody else in that community seems to. "OMG SHE WUZ SO MEAN TO OFFER CONCRIT"

The day the majority of the Sei/Sub shippers will open up to the Subaru/Kamui pairing will be the day the Israelis calls for a permanent truce with the Palestinians.

Well, if the Sei/Sub shippers didn't do suicide bombings and the Subaru/Kamui didn't occupy the West Bank of the Internet and, like, bulldoze towns, the Israel/Palestine 'shippers could just get back to writing pr0n.

...or even better, they'll write essays about those essays!

As she writes this, she also writes out a tallied list of why she thinks certain pairings do or do not go together.

She doth protest too much.

I've read Voldemort/Pikachu too. I think it's the same fic, actually. Basically the Pokemon are minion of Voldemort, and Pikachu is the sort of right hand...minion for Voldemort's forces of Terror. Unfortunately, Pikachu gets a little ambitious for his own good, releases too many identical games and fails in his actual goal of getting all the muggle children under Voldemort's spell. Thus, Voldemort has to torture him. Pikachu likes torture.

I liked that fic. Mainly because Pikachu got tortured. If you have not watched the Pokemon movies twelve times each with your nine year old nephew, you have not suffered.

Okay, I didn't get too far into this until my brain decided to explode.

What did me in was first she implies she's not to giddy on the concept of chan (So, unless you are into F/K chanslash, I really am scared of this pairing.). Then, she goes on to say that she not only "love[s] Sei/Fuu pairing. HOT!!!" but also "[she] [is] a Subaru/Kamui shipper. The 20-something ying/yang magician and the 15-year old hero of the manga".

Wait. Did the definition of chanslash change? Did I not get the notice? Last time I checked, a 25 year old man (or 26, depending on the time in the storyline) having sex with a 15 year old (a minor, that is) was chanslash too. Ditto for a 34 year old having "teh hott ghey sekz" with a 16 year old.

Ugh. I just...ugh. I need to take an asprin and lay down. The stupid hurts my brain.

What does she expect people to answer on the S/S community with 'which is better?' pairing???

'I don't care much for S/S, but I'm on a community that supports them!'

Ask a stupid question... Geez, go to an X community, in general, and you'll get a more, in general, answer.

eh ... okay the essay is extremely silly and melodramatic. Really I could have taken her seriously and sympathized if she stopped making ridiculous comparisons like Israelis -vs- Palestinians.

But on the other hand isn't it wonderful that Leareth is so concerned about her poor friend's sanity she has to comment on a community for a pairing she has said on many occasions she can't stand? What dedication! Regardless of the quality of the fic, if a friend came to me so upset over fanfic to the point that it threatened her sanity ... I'd probably question my friend's sanity to begin with, then go for the "slowly back away" over the "be sarcastic to the bad author"

The true shame is that with so many bad authors around, Leareth will have to snark at a lot of people to save her poor friend. This could make a beautiful movie ... sort of like Kill Bill meets Girl Interrupted kind of thing, Oscars all around I'm sure~
