"You are using your narrow-minded western-view to interpret his words and feelings for yuki."
WARNING: Furuba manga spoilers abound. Read at your own risk.

Deviant_love posts a picture in the Furuba lj community of Hatsuharu kissing a girl. Title of the post? Haru is SOOOO GAY. Music? MOST fangirls sux.

People get pissed at both.

ETA:It's not the first time I'm on fandom wank for being outspoken about fangirlism and yaoi

Deviant_love... Isn't that the name of a person who's decided to be the Holy Defender of FB het?

Christ what a wanker.

Cause we all know that gay people live in an alternate reality where if they touch a member of the opposite they will die a firey death.

Also bisexuality doesn't exsist and you certainly can't love someone for who they are and not their gender.

Makes me glad I never went for FB.

She's one of those people that I need a "Stop being on my side, you're making my side look wanky stupid" icon for. I like het, too, as well as yaoi and yuri, but dammit no form of porn needs a Holy Defender.

She's just as bad as the rabid yaoi fans, I swear.

He looked so terribly thrilled while kissing her, I noticed...

I have had so many people tell me how wonderful Fruits Basket is, how I'm going to just love it to death when I sit down and watch it, and after three episodes I'm...eh. Just "eh". I utterly fail to see the big thrill. Maybe it comes with time. But both "Last Exile" and "Witch Hunter Robin" grabbed me from the get-go, so I don't know...

Manga's better at that. The first episode of Fruits Basket is one of my least favorite. Stick with it until Hatori shows up. That's when most people get hooked.

The real joy of Fruits Basket is how bipolar it is. It swings between fluffy romance and sweet humor to manipulation, sadism, despair, and the occasional maiming. They only really come close to this around the 13th episode and toward the end-- but since it wasn't clear what was going on, they cut out Shiggy being a manipulative bastard, and other vicious little moments that hadn't been explained.

I've had a similar experience with Furuba. Then, one of my friends fangirls hugely over the series and she doesn't get my utter obsession with Hunter x Hunter, so I guess we're pretty much even on mutually Not Getting It.

Wow, someone needs to tell my Japanese friend Mayumi (who got me most of my Fruits Basket manga, I <3 host families) that she's been sucked into the Western viewpoint of thinking that Haru had a childhood crush on him. Oh no, the yaoi has infected her pure and superior Japanese mindset!

Excuse me? We're narrow minded for interpreting it as a crush? I thought it would be narrow minded to be terribly homophobic about it and fanatically insist that it's just a friendship. Hmmm. Someone needs to think before they type, it helps to not contradict yourself.

And:

You are using your narrow-minded western-view to interpret his words and feelings for yuki.

While it's true that East and West do have different interpretations as to what's "friendly" and what's friendly, it's also true that yaoi and shounen-ai are popular, and, as I think someone else said in the thread above, it's entirely possible the manga artist is fanservicing.

Manga's a great pure art form and all I'm sure, but it's also how artists, you know, EAT. And if making a character appear to be more than a little bendy is going to sell more copies, then I'm pretty sure no sensible artist would even hesitate.

In short: Deviant_love? Yeah, I like the het a lot, and you're also a flaming idiot.

...Wait, aren't narrow-minded Western views supposed to be AGAINST yaoi? Huh? *is confused*

hmm... Even if I thought that Haru was 100% straight, I still wouldn't want to read/see him paired with Rin, I'd rather him with Tohru or Kagura or Kisa.... Can't stand that stupid horse.

And I personally prefer mixed and matched threesomes in FB. ^_^
