Fark's fapping over HP continues...
They really should leave this to the professionals...

(Also, CC gets *another* mention. Sigh.)

Mine old monitor plus mine blind eyes had a quite a time trying to figure out how a green-haired, clean-shaven anime boy became a cute hitler. There were several moments of "The hell? A cute Hitler?" and "Well what else could the word be?" and "Is it another example of poor naming choice by the Japanese? Is he adorable-yet-genocidal? What the shit?" involved.

Anyway, thank you for actually having informative keywords. Though I also could have just scrolled down far enough to red the above anon's comments. Blargh.

About the only way to do worse would be to take up [Piers] Anthony (I'm going to write fifty puns and then have a gratuitous sex scene!).

Best. Summary. Ever. I liked Anthony back when I was around 11 or so. Picked up something he wrote recently (okay, a few years ago), and couldn't even get through two chapters. Bleh. And I find it scary how fast he churns the stuff out. One year he had published something like 11 books.

I dunno, I enjoy reading the books, but in no way would I call them "Good" writing. Each one just seems to be a horribly-written PoS with a somewhat decent plot.

I much prefer Robert Jordan's WoT series

He's joking, right? Right? I mean, I don't particularly love HP, but someone's using Wheel of Time as an example of good writing? What?

Puns are the backbone of Xanth. If there were no puns, I firmly believe that magic would leave Xanth. And who doesn't love gratuitous, heavily implied sex scenes?

As for Harry Potter, if a book keeps me up 'til two in the morning because I'm so intrigued by it that I can't put it down, I don't care what the critiques say; it achieved its purpose.

I'd argue that 'Wheel of Time' is better written than 'Harry Potter', but then, HP was written for kids. However, Jordan's abysmal plotting and unlikeable characters pretty much cancel that out. I'll be reading the sixth HP, but not the next WoT book.

I used ta read a lot of Xanth myself actually. Really enjoyed it way back when. When I read it now though, the characters seem more shallow and everything seems more predictable, and nothing seems to have that same allure anymore.
I'm not whether this is cause I've become a pickier reader or he's just become a worse writer.

now i remember why it has been a long held principle not to see any sequel or movie with a roman numeral in the title. If you can't even be bothered to come up with new characters, or even a new title, you couldn't possibly come up with a movie...

right, like The Empire Strikes Back, that was a worthless pile of shit of a film wasn't it?
