Apparently my fandom is now wanking about theories on how James snagged Lily. There is much dissent.

ETA: I don't think the first essay is wanky; it does provide the context, though. Sorry for confusion.

I loved the essay being one of the few folks who thinks the Marauders need to bitchslapped.

I doubt any of it will happen in canon, but I think it makes some great fanfic fodder, and I do think she raises some very good points.

I dunno, James Potter might have been a bully and a brat, but it seems like he grew up to be a good man. And like Lily genuinely loved him. Dislike (even loathing) doesn't mean that you couldn't see the good points of a person and fall in love with them anyway. And when did James and Lily marry? Was it right after Horwarts or a few years later? Maybe James grew up and quit acting like such a punk.

Maybe I'm just a turd, but I don't understand why people thing J.K. Rowling condones the type of behavior James' exhibited; I thought the whole point of the Pensieve scene was to show that James wasn't a saint, and to condemn bullying in general. I mean, she has said in at least two interviews that Snape is her favorite character...

A lot of people wank about my favorite characters on both sides. (I'm a tremendous fan of the Marauders, Sirius in particular.) I think both sides are friggin' stupid about it. I just don't get why narcissam suddenly had to play Fandom Defender. Even if one accepts musesfool's comments as wanky or mean or something, doesn't making an extremely snarky post wherein one calls the other side idiots just exacerbate the problems within the fandom? And as for the marauders and how they are TEH EBIL!!1, let's just take a moment to reflect on the one-sided-ness (heh, I'm so technical today) of this essay. Yes the marauders were assholes. But so was Snape. She conveniently forgot to mention that after Lily tried to stop the bullying, he called her a mudblood and that he's the world's biggest asshole period. And for God's sake, who wasn't an asshole at 15?
