The Stepford Wanks
On LJ:

Um, I can't not notice if a film (book, song, whatever) is giving me sexist (homophobic, racist, whatever) messages. I can't suddenly become selectively observant.

On IMDB:

If Lord of the Rings ended with everybody dying, wouldn't you have rather known before wasting 3 hours on it?

lets face facts the stepford remake is a white movie for very dull white people, no doubt the same folks who enjoyed straight, white, love actually will like this

On Fametracker:

Glenn & Bette are too old! Nicole's hair is fugly! Christopher Walken=Bad Movie! Etc.

Damn, the wank beat me to a cowbell reference.

Ah, well.

What's the story behind the cowbell?

It's from an old SNL sketch, from when Chris Walken was a host.

He was 'producing' a song for 'Blue Oyster Cult', and kept coming in to say it needed more cowbell. That's the basics of it, anyway.

I've only seen it once, and was half asleep at the time, but it was still quite funny. It's on the 'Best of' Will Ferrel DVD.

Hmm. Actually, this movie amused me and my mother, who had read the book and seen the original movie. We both loved Roger very very much. *g* It's worth seeing at least once, and the sexist messages that do show in the beginning are pretty much eradicated by the end.

I just came home from seeing that movie, what a weird coincidence. I thought it was funny in some parts, Bette was good, Nicole was bad, and there was too little Walken. Overall, I'd have rather rented it than pay 9 bucks to have seen it on the big screen.

However, hearing Christopher Walken shout "there can only be one!" almost made it worth it. XD

And Christopher Walken... it seems like he's always the sign of a bad movie these days

Oh yeah, cause Catch Me if You Can? Total crap. Spielberg is such a hack. Walken didn't deserve that best supporting oscar nomination at all. No, really.

Because Christopher Walken is immortal. He has inside him blood of kings. He has no rival. No man can be his equal...(guitar music)

My personal Christopher Walken favorite is Sarah Plain and Tall. It was the most WHAT IN JESUS IS THIS?? moment ever. It was like seeing The Rock in Little House on the Prarie.

You realise that I am going to be renting that just for the Walken. Oh yes.

My favorite Walken has to be in the music video for "Weapon of Choice". Best. Music. Video. EVAR.

My Favorite Walken can be found in Scotland, PA. How can you do better then a vegetarian detective McDuff [yes, this is actually a version of MacBeth] who dances with maracas and listens to bizarre self-help tapes in the wilds of Pennslyvania? It's just...so...beautiful.

More useless Feminista Camille-Paglia circle-jerking. Gimme a fucking break.

I just came from seeing The Stepford Wives. It was funny, more than I expected it to be. Bette Midler wasn't nearly as irritating as I expected, Matthew Broderick was damn cute, and Nicole...well, in my opinion, Nicole should only do comedy. She's hysterical. I knew that when I saw her in To Die For, and it's always great to see it again. It's a pity she got boxed in trying to be a Dramatic Heroine, because she's far better at being funny.

Mark Twain once said, "If you portray life as better than it is, they call you an optimist. If you portray life as worse than it is, they call you a pessimist. And if you portray life exactly as it is, they call you a satirist."

I completely agree-I haven't seen The Stepford Wives but Nicole was fantastic in To Die For. She needs to do more comedy or play more evil bitches.

More Fametracker wank? Ah, but the line between snark and wank can become very blurred at times. I should know-- I was on that thread. And the Old!Wank was a bit... much.

Nicole's hair is as ugly as a moist and inexplicably blond cow pie drying in the sun, though. They got that much right.

I feel now is the time I must brag about my OMGSPESHULCONNECTION to Christopher Walker. Seriously, he used to come into my friend's restaurant, order two half chickens (and he would order from only one waitress) and he'd throw the bones over his shoulder as he finished. True story. It's one of the only things I can be proud of. Well, that and the time I groped Christopher Reeve.

okay...um...I think everyone is reading way too much into this movie which is supposed to be a comedy for goodness sake! There is so secret messages in the remake, it is just that...a remake. A movie is supposed to be fun whether you agree with the message or not. Sitting through the movie won't make your beloved fantasy ideals disappear from your mind. If you fear that, you weren't as secure in them in the first place.

Oh my...that was a bit wanky. Pardon me.

Now I'm curious to see the movie damnit! Stupid wank!
