I don't know how to describe this...
Is it wank? Is it just bizarre? I'm not sure. Basically "malaysian porcupine" declares her fanatical undying devotion to Dash Mihok, a distinctive-looking but little-known actor. (You might recognize him from "Romeo + Juliet" or "Day After Tomorrow.") Apparently:

I was thinking, do u lot think Dash could be like a religion, I worship him everyday and only live for him. I even have a small shrine dedicated to him in my room! :D
W. T. F? And then katsqueek1111 shows up. In all caps. Declaring malaysian porcupine to be a idolator and attempting to convert her to Christianity in SCREAMING ALL-CAPS:

I HAVE FACED REJECTION MANY TIMES IN MY LIFE. AS A CHILD GROWING UP, FROM FAMILY AND KIDS, AND AS AN ADULT. I KNOW YOUR PAIN. LIKE I SAID IT IS FUN TO LIKE AN ACTOR, BUT ITS TEMPORARY, IN TIME YOU WILL WANT A MORE CLOSER ONE ON ONE CONTACT TO MEET THAT VOID IN YOUR HEART. THATS WHERE ONLY GOD CAN FILL.
malaysian porcupine immediately backs away smiling glassily. ("Don't make eye contact...doooon't make eye contact...") jriepl tells katsqueek1111 to OMGSTFU. Surprisingly, she does. It's short and bite-sized!

Please God, let malaysian porcupine be exaggerating the extent of her ONE TRU WUV for comic purposes.

And if it she isnt't... well, I'd still be surprised. Because Dash Mihok? Looks like a low-rent (or should that be lower-rented?) version of David Boreanz. Ew ew ew ew ew.

I was thinking that all through "Day After Tomorrow"! I was wondering, "Does David have a cousin?" I had to check when I got home, and that's how I found this...oddness.

Who did this Dash person play? I don't recognize the picture or the character name, and I saw the movie. Help?

He played Dennis Quaid's main character's sidekick. Jason something. The one who survived to the end. If you saw "Romeo + Juliet," he was Benvolio -- aka "Romeo's buddy who WASN'T Mercutio." Spent most of the movie bare-chested in a Hawaiian shirt, IIRC. :)

But I like the no-capslock happy end.

Aww. When I was 13, I felt the exact same way about a certain rock star who shall remain nameless.

IT ISN'T GOOD TO PUT OUR MAIN FOCUS ON ANYBODY AND BASE OUR HAPPINESS ON THEM. NO ONE IS PERFECT. IT IS BEST TO ALLREADY BE HAPPY, AND THEN COME ALONG SIDE OF ANOTHER PERSON, AND BRING OUT THE BEST IN EACH OTHER (RELATIONSHIP OR FRIENDSHIP)

Hee. Sensible relationship advice (although perfectly rational advice somehow sounds insane when delivered in all caps) but it doesn't really apply to celebrity worship.

No - much more embarrassingly, it was Jim Morrison. And this was 1991.

I THINK YOU AND I COME FROM A BACKGROUND WHERE WE WEREN'T TOLD ON A CONSISTANT BASIS, THAT WE WERE LOVED OR APPRECIATED. AND IT ALL STARTS WITH OUR FATHER AND HOW HE TREATED US.

What exactly is she saying here? That fathers are the only parent that can fuck us up or make us healthy adults? Now she could just mean that her father was a shithead, but that's a pretty big leap to make about someone else after only reading one obsessive post about Dash Mihok.

She's alluding to the theory that girls' relationships with their fathers set the blueprint for their adult relationships with men. I think. Also that her dad is a dickhead.

Also possibly to the theory that people become atheists (and once you're saved enough, just about everyone on the other side of the Blood of the Lamb Line starts looking kind of atheisty) because of Rampant Daddy Issues.

Every time I see someone acting dumb in the name of Christianity, I wish I could apologize on its behalf.

Of course, I'd be apologizing a lot, and mostly over people pretending to speak for someone other than themselves - so I guess my apologizing on the behalf of Christianity in general would be hypocritical. :P

You know, young girls are always going to get searing-blinding-burning crushes on guys and wrap their lives around them. For gods' sakes, it's part of life, whether they know the fellows or not. There's nothing either surprising or disturbing about it. Eventually, the gold loses its luster and they move on. (As I'm sure most of us can attest from past (and not-so-past) experience.) Just as long as they don't squeal in movie theaters, it's fine by me.

What I want to know is, what is it about being a bornagain that seems to compel people to write in all caps? Cause it's really annoying, if you ask me. Kinda like being buttonholed by some drunk on the street who wants to tell you about how fucking GREAT his Uncle Charlie is, at length and in detail.

*I* never did. And no girl I personally know ever built a shrine. So IMHO it's NOT normal, in fact it's VERY CREEPY...

Re: *sigh*
[info]lokifin

True, the shrine is a bit much, but not that far off from the notebooks plastered with a crush's name and the collection of magazine articles, posters, etc., that the majority of girls wallpaper their lives with, just changing the subject of obsession every couple months or so. But then, to give her the benefit of the doubt, she may be using shrine to mean the 10 cut out pictures of the guy in her locker with little plastic roses taped around them or a collection of all the articles mentioning him and all his movies on a bookcase at home with a life-sezed poster of him over it for her to blow kisses at.

Then again, I think all preteen/teen girls have infinite potential to be creepy in their obsessions.

See...I never did any of that. No plastering my locker with Kirk Cameron...or who-ever was the 'hottie' of the week,or having notebooks with the name(s) cute guys on them...etc. *shudders* In fact, I don't think I've ever really had a crush. I've my favorite actors and the pretty boys I like to look at, but that's about it (pretty men are fun to oggle). Maybe I'm just odd.

I'd go for you being in the minority on this. It's really, really typical for a preteen/early teenage girl to get obsessed in a really scary way with any boy in sight, whether a celebrity or a kid in her school. That said, it's not particularly healthy in my opinion, but most girls at least somewhat grow out of it. Eventually.
