Thank you to the inevitable anons for the heads-up on this one.

NOTE: I have absolutely no background here beyond what you see in the link.

taradiane apparently posts many pictures of Daniel Radcliffe. The other day, she did just that. Now, to my eye he looks mostly bored and kinda tired.

wayfairer does not agree. In fact, she believes that it's

ASDFJKASLFJSKLFAS THAT POSE? WHY MUST THEY MAKE HIM INTO A SEX SYMBOL BEFORE HE'S EVEN OLD ENOUGH TO BE JAILBAIT, TARA? WHY WHY WHY?

Sigh. You know, I like clicking on all the pictures you post but I wish you could maybe put a pre-ljcut disclaimer on the ones that are intentionally provacative.

Because I see him in photoshoots like this, and despite the cuteness, the childsploitation at work here really, really pisses me off.

As usual in Potterfandom, wank ensues.

And I just sit here going 'Gee, he looks weird without glasses...'

See, I would *never* make comments, ever ever ever, about finding Dan attractive or hot in a sexual way or whatever. But I was commenting to say that I was uncomfortable with being made to look at pictures that forced me to see him in a sexual way despite the fact that I don't want to do so.

All I can think of is that sketch on Upright Citizens Brigade where the woman in the audience keeps standing up and yelling at the guy on stage (who's just standing there), "I will NOT fornicate with you! With your juicy lips and firm buttocks . . . STOP BEGGING ME!"

Methinks someone has some jailbait love to come to terms with. "I don't find him sexy at all and would never ever say so but these pictures force me to find him sexy! EXPLOITATION!"

And, actually, I don't think wayfairer is being all that unreasonable...maybe a bit prudish, but she's structuring herself generally well and trying to be non-offensive while still remaining honest. Of course, I'm only partway through the wank right now...this is all subject to change...

The wierdest thing about this wank is how everyone talks about this girl Tara's immense respect for Dan and how she protects him...they make it sounds like she's his wet-nurse or something. It's creepy that people get so possesive over some 14-year old celebrity boy that none of them has any personal affiliation with despite their frightening fangirl clawing at some semblence of connection.

I like Aja and Tara, both. Tara's a kind, sweet person who's done more for other people through fandom than probably most people in the HP fandom or any fandom. She's probably sick of hearing me say how much I admire her. She'd no more do anything harmful to Dan than she'd cut off her own arm. Aja spent several days at my house last week (along with several other fen) and it was a pleasure having her visit.

I think that there wouldn't have been any wankery at all if Tara and Aja had been allowed to discuss their opposing opinions without people jumping in and attacking Aja for no other reason than the fact that she's Aja. Not everyone did this--there were plenty of polite, articulate comments-- but enough did to turn it into a wankfest.

Should others have put in their opinions? Sure. I did (I disagree with Aja, actually; I don't think there needs to be warnings to these pics). But geez, talk about the issue, nicely, okay? Attacking Aja by calling her names and mentioning things that have no connection to the subject is just plain mean, not to mention entirely out of place. The real wank, in my opinion, was in those attacks. Old wounds were not the issue here, and quite frankly I think it was an insult to Tara for people to use her LJ for opening up those old wounds.


If it were some fandom unknown who piped up with the same opinion Aja did, he or she wouldn't have gotten virtually beaten up like that, and the whole thread may have missed f_w's radar by miles.

*sigh* Basically what I'm trying to say in this comment (which is rapidly becoming its own brand of wank), is that there's splooge all over that thread, and it's not all Aja's.

Okay, if they had him posing in a Speedo, I might have to take issue, but he's just crouching there, fully dressed, with a neutral expression on his face. If someone finds that sexy, it's not because 'OMGtheymadehimlooksexyI'mdefiled!' it's because he matches their mental image of sexy. Lets face it, human beings are designed to find youth and beauty sexually attractive. It's a mating instinct, thanks to the fact that teenage sperm/ova are healthier. DR is attractive and capable of ejaculation. Being below the legal age of consent doesn't change that.

There can be quite clothed pictures which can otherwise be really pervy and disturbing, I just don't really think this is one of them. If he was ten, maybe, but he's fifteen and from what I remember of fifteen year-old boys he's probably being remarkably restrained. And he looks comfortable, which is the more important thing for me.

Some of the pictures of Justin Timberlake when he's fifteen, now those are scary. Or Aaron Carter, and not just because I'm scared of him in general.

What's wanky about this entire issue is the sheer hypocrisy of half the nitwits posting on that thread. Jesus Christ, half of them wax lyrical and have done for eons about how hot and sexy the underage HP boys are. They write fanfiction involving underage kids having sex, whether it be with each other or an adult (something that frankly is far more disturbing than a few apparently exploitive publicity pics - the adult/child sex that is). Please. You have adults with journal layouts featuring barely legal and underage teens, Miss Aja included, so excuse me if I find this apparent moral issue laughable to the point of hilarity.

As for the pictures? Eh? What in the beejebus is all the bloody fuss about? He's a cute kid that the camera loves. And? Is his shirt off? Is his cock hanging out? 2) I don't know about Thailand (the place that picture was taken for), but in Japan, there's a name for that-- "yankii-zuwari." People sit like that waiting for the bus, and kids do when just loitering. It might just be the way kids sit?
