the get_fuzzy community discusses the crediting of icons...
You know, I am not trying to start a fight or nothing, but don't you guys think this crediting thing is going a bit far? Do you realize that you are creating icons off a comic strip that was not drawn by you and that is copywrited?

Usual fare in icon wank I suppose, but entertaining. And it's all fun and games until someone cries PLAGERISM!

ETA: This is what seems to have prompted the post. Wank begets wank begets wank...

Can someone tell me why no one on the internet can spell "plagiarism"?

Because looking in a dictionary to learn how to spell it would constitute using someone else's work? ;)

I like how one of the "OMG I WORK SO HARD AT MY ICONS YOU DON'T KNOW!" wankers has some of the crappiest icons there. ;-)

There was someone on an erotic Furry fiction website that I go to know about who actually managed to plagiarize himself.

Does anyone know when this credit me thing started? Was there an original wank in the early, black days of LJ?

I had to join in when some guy said he should get credit for icons made from someone else's cartoon as it's really really hard and complicated and time consuming to resize a gif because it's in two colours, and you get a grey mess if you resize a two-colour gif.

No, it's not. You just increase the colour depth to 16 million colours before resizing. It's two clicks of the mouse.

I do. I don't care much, mind you, but I would be a little annoyed if someone took an icon I actually spent time and effort on without crediting.

Lesson for the day: don't go to a community and ask for an icon, promising you'll credit, when you're using an uncredited icon. You might run into the person who made your uncredited icon, and you will look stupid.

Classic.

The only time I might get pissed if I wasn't credited on the icons I did is if I did the art on the base, or didn't put them in a comm. It's really not worth freaking out over much even then.

But that's me. If other people wanna freak out over LJ users not respecting their work, that's fine. It's just they're freaking out over LJ users not respecting their work. Next "Dog Bites Man" will cause rioting in the streets.

As an icon maker on LJ myself, I do ask for credit, but I don't get bent out of shape for it. Because hell - the only stuff that may be mine are some of the words on the icon. The rest is stuff I stole yoinked found on the internet.

One reason I do ask for credit is because it brings more people to my icon journal. Advertising and shit, ya know? :D

But yeah. It's not that big a deal. Get over it, I mean seriously. It's polite, yes, but ugh.

Psh. It's shit like this that makes me almost demand to not be credited, even on my stuff that I did from scratch.
