It's not Buffy/Angel related, but why are they doing Smallville next when the public was clearly crying out for HP het bashing as the following port of call?

Won't someone think of the HP-het bashers???!!!

*weeps*

Well, the first two posts were predominantly HP-related so I think she must be trying to mix it up a bit. I for one cannot wait for the SV thread to go up. *eg*

Buffywank has such a unique, special little flavor to it.

If Harry Potter is the chardonnay of wank, then Buffy is shiraz/cabernet sauvignon mix.

A painful film-noir MarySue-verse which centers around a sue named Baby. She's the CONSORT of SPIKE who uses SPIKISMS all the damn time. There're more, but I couldn't stand any more. The PPC worked it over a while ago, as I remember.

So, I'm reading along in a topic created for bitching about badfic when I see this:

But, in general, once an author decides to do all other fanfic writers a "service" and puts up a page about how to write in character, various plot points to keep in mind, speech characteristics of various characters, grammer tips, etc., it's near the end. If they create a whole site for such stuff, including essays... forget it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but many of the reasons why people are bitching about badfic involve poor grammar, OOC-ness, hackneyed dialogue, lack of plot, etc. I'm sensing a logical disconnect here. It's a bit hypocritical to complain about badfic, then turn around and complain about people trying to give pointers on how to avoid writing badfic. Some fic writing sites, essays, pointers are better than others, true. But if you're going to complain about badfic, knocking the people who talk about ways to work through and avoid bad writing habits is just silly.

My favorite was the anon who bitched about a particular writer (all her fic sucks, always the same plot, yadda yadda), then whined that the same writer never finished a WIP and yelled at her to finish it.

Especially about Babyverse. Oh the fond memories of the time I posted some Babyverse in the bad Buffy fic thread on TWoP and inadvertantly got the thread shut down, because all the writers and fans ran over to the board to flame me and explain to all the mean bitches that Mary Sues were a valid art form. And how even after the thread was shut down (though it may have come back later) they kept on flaming me via email. Hell I still get the odd flame from a Babyverse person and the whole incident happened about two years ago. Apparently no one holds a grudge like a really crappy writer.

Quantam Physics
(Anonymous)
2004-06-22 08:29 am UTC (link)
Ah, this crossover universe thing reminds me of some quantam physics stuff I was looking up for fun the other day (yes, fun). The most interesting thing I found was about immortality. A basic description I gave to my friend:

For example, if someone cocks a gun at you repeatedly but the gun only has one bullet (Russian rouslette),two parallel universes are created at each cock of the gun. One in which you survive and one in which you're shot. The physics theory is that there is no such thing as death, because following this idea, in some universe, you'll never die. Pretty freaky and sci-fish, but apparently quantam physics scientists have been researching it for years and have been building up support for it (somehow).

If only someone did this crossover site with anime and books. I can think of two references in Reboot: X-files (go icon love!) and Sailor Moon (building falls onto of the Scouts). It's crazy that I sit around and think about this stuff, let alone look up theories on it...

Its basically the same as Schroedinger's Cat. If you have a cat in a locked room with a contain of poisen, and you have no way to look into the room, and the poisen is on a random release system, as soon as you stop observing the room, the cat is equally alive and dead, since the chances are the same. The idea is that this creates new universes (universi?) constantly, leading to a multiverse. Its theoretical, and is mainly used as an example of the whole "the universe is all up in the air until we observe it" idea.
