Spirited Away <3
/crossposted from my journal

I just finished watching Spirited Away for the first time, and wondered if this film (in the tradition of the majority of anime projects) has attracted any drama. Lo and behold, within five clicks I’m feelin’ the love.

Have you ever read an online movie review that left you feeling physically ill? Well, Brian Matherly at Rotten Tomatoes has inspired that response for giving SA a bad review, along with attracting enough flames to warm the cockles (or sub-cockles) of your heart. He’s been called everything from a “Jap hater with a thin brain” to “a critic of poor quality”. Some suggest that by continuing to employ Brian, the entire company will come crashing down. I wonder if Mr. Matherly gets woozy from all that power. Brian isn’t the only one to feel the heat though. His own editor, Chuck Dowling, drops in to lend a hand. Whether he’s there to try and cool things down, or intentionally fan the flames is a matter of opinion. Want to see the drama unfold in all of its tarnished glory?

Click here to watch everything start at Rotten Tomatoes.

To watch the drama spill over to The Daily Reviews forum, click here.

To see yet more spillage over at Box Office Mojo forum, click here. It starts at page 4, and then keeps on truckin’ along to page 5.

Quote of the Moment:
"Everyone's entitled to an opinion, but some opinions are just plain incorrect."

Me oh my, the natives are restless. God bless the fanboys, for they are crazier then us.

Personally, I think the reviewer missed the point of Spirited Away entirely. Perhaps his mommy didn't read him enough fairy tales as a child?

*cries*

I didn't want to know that there's Spirited Away wank. That's one of my favorite films. Every time I think of the flying scene at the end, I tear up.

I'd hate to read a bad review of the film, but it's not worth wanking over... I'd mostly just feel sorry that the reviewer didn't share the beautiful experience of pure joy that film gives me.

he must have a bad childhood or Jap hater...

and

I have to add that, I know this reviewer...and for someone to call him a "jap hater" is absurd. His girlfriend is oriental.

Hmm...perhaps before accusing somebody else of being racist, or defending said person against such accusations, it might be a wee bit advisable to make sure your own comments don't contain any painfully outdated and/or derogatory terms such as "jap" or "oriental"? Just MAYBE?

What I loved was the editor trying to claim that 63%=Failing Grade at most high schools...

I mean I know he's supposed to know English, not MATH...but that's a passing grade at any school I've been to. Not wonderful, but... *giggles*
