Also posted in the system journal We're not sure how much of this was a joke gone south or how much of it was genuine frustration on the part of the mods, and at the moment we don't care. Right now, we're focused on the result. Before anyone jumps to conclusions, nobody is in trouble, here. We dislike the actions this involved, but it doesn't mean we dislike the people. Lots of people we like do things now and then we dislike. It's just life. Bottom line is that we don't think anyone has the right to delete this community. It's grown beyond the ownership of a handful of people. It belongs to the fannish communities now. By their time put in on it, the moderators have earned the right to moderate how they see fit, to a rather large degree. We believe that that doesn't include the right to delete the community itself, for any reason. That's why we've undeleted the community. That's as far as we're taking it for now, though. None of the moderators are out of a job, so to speak. The community is self-policed, and we don't intend to intervene with that, unless something happens to make us change our minds. See, we believe it's even beyond OUR right to delete the thing or interfere unless we have a damn good reason. We admins are here to provide a venue for all sorts of fan-related journaling. Throughout this mess, we've seen people get upset and wonder if JF itself is likely to close down if FW is gone. We don't think it's likely. In fact, we think that notion is kind of funny. Despite the fears to the contrary, JF doesn't exist for FW, and there are lots of users here who are not into the FW thing. Besides that, no matter what the wanking community is called, JF is still the one place where everyone knows they can mock without being arbitrarily shut down. As long as there are fans, there will be wank, and there will be a place where fans can mock in safety as long as we don't have genuine TOS issues. It's that freedom of speech thing that's one of our founding principles. We've heard that some people have already decided to open up a FW elsewhere. That's fine with us. People can open up journals and communities anywhere they like. But as long as we have JF, and as long we don't have legal issues, FW will also be alive here. How it evolves and develops here is entirely up to you. All of you. It's yours, after all. Make of it what you will. One last thing. We get a little tired of saying it, but we know that not everyone sees everything we post (it's not a perfect world yet). So, one more time... JournalFen did not start specifically for FW. We moved up our schedule for it by about a month, yes. But we already had JF in the works when we asked those involved in running FW at the time if they'd be interested in opening up here when we were ready, since they'd had problems finding a permanent home. In that sense, FW facilitated in us getting JF online much sooner than anticipated, but we did not open up just for this community, and our continued existence isn't contigent on the community. |
