OMG GARFIELD IS RACIST!!!one!
I should NOT have gone near the festering stink that is the Garfield movie, in any way shape or form. But I did. I don't know what's funnier here, the real wank in the form of people who thought the original poster was serious, or the pseudowank from those who got the joke...

  • "Dude, I get it so much. I was thinking the same thing with Superman, I mean...it's a white guy with black hair. And he's probably only afraid of kryptonite for one logical reason...it begins with a k. Add three doses and that's some deadly sh*t for Superman. And the big S on his shirt OBVIOUSLY stands for slavery. And if they make another movie, they probably won't let Christopher Reeve be Superman, so they're friggin' racist against cripples, too. Man, what is wrong with the world?"

  • "[Willy Wonka] is proof the white man was enslaving the orange race long before Garfield came along."

  • "And what about Nermal...who's grey...and stupid in the movie...they're obviously referring to our senile elderly. And Shrek is green, but I can't think of anything funny enough to say about that."

  • "i think its stupid how racist people always have something racist to say about racism. I mean if there are racist implications that are racially implied by racists, then that's the choice of the racist. I personally am not racist, but I can see the humor in the racist's racist remarks that one can consider racism. Racist racists' race has a huge part to do with the racial degree of the racists' racism. Lets go back and start over with the racist definition of race. Isn't race the color of the racists' skin? My racist point is that every racist is a racist and every non racist is a racist no matter the race of the racist or the racist's racial remarks of the racist."

  • "yeah, and I suppose Bettle Baily shows that hardships of the military????? Oh, and I suppose Dilbert is racist to becau---- who cares? Yeah I'm a tad bit racist because I can't stand to see people who preach equality turn around and get a big fat paycheck and when it comes to other peoples opinions they don't care because they are always right, sure..... I hate political correctness."
And my personal favorite:

  • "how can the film be racist? Jon has a color TV"

It's Zoro from One Piece. Same guy in this one.

It's just that in that one he's upside down, balancing on his head and his knees because he's all tied up, and covered in bandages. We're seeing him through his legs. ...I have fun fandoms.

In the scene I referenced, Jesse is tied up upside-down in vines while a guy who's probably more evil than the Boss smirks wickedly at her. About ten minutes had passed since we last saw the two.

I have fun fandoms too.

Another excellent metaphor for the black experience would be the Snuffleupagus, truly the "Invisible Man" for his time until the hew-mons were finally forced to take notice and pay respect.

All sarcasm aside, aren't there quite a few ethnic muppets on Seaseme street? I've heard that Big Bird was supposed to be... well, something or another. And Bert and Ernie were definitely latino. And damn, wasn't that last pair daring. A gay latino couple show-cased on a children's show since the early seventies? Damn but that's progressive. ;)

Gods...

After the fifth or sixth time it feels like your head's being pounded on with a mallet while your eyes melt.

We get the point already...

My concern regarding Superman has less to do with racism and more with the homoerotic overtones of the character, especially during the 60's.

The man changed into his "true identity' in a closet. Repeatedly.

He lived a double life and constantly avoided the romantic overtures of Lois Lane.

And most importantly: he gave his "best pal", Jimmy Olsen, a supersonic watch that made him come running (pun intended) whenever Jimmy "turned it on". Did he ever give Lois, who made her living falling off buildings, getting shot at, etc., a similar watch? Nope. Ever wonder why?

Makes you think, it really does.

On my LJ, I've been doing this list called (appropriately enough) Signs of the Up-coming Apocalypse. I cracked up when I saw that particular Sluggy Strip, because I had decided the same thing about the Garfield movie when I saw the first posters last December, and added it to the list of signs. Not that I'm self-promoting, or anything...*shifty eyes*...

Seriously, though, after I read that strip, I actually felt my all encomposing love for the niftieness that is Sluggy increase, if such a thing were possible. *Worships the comic*
