Truly bizarre little HP Originality Thing...
If this person is not a troll, I may just have to slit my wrists. Or watch Wizards again - it has approximately the same effect on my will to live.

Allow me to quote in case it vanishes:

hownovel: *posts rather funny little thing called Lord of the Rings vs. Harry Potter: A Pictorial Comparison*

orly_bloom_lova: umm yea, i h8 harry potter i wanna take the oppurtunity 2 ask 1 question...
CAN SOMEBODY SAY JK ROWLING IS AN UNORIGINAL BITCH HU STOLE EVERYTHING FROM REAL LITERATURE AND THEN MADE IT 30X'S GAYER SO KIDS WILL LIKE IT AND SHE CAN STEAL $ FROM THE PEOPLE HU ACTUALLY DESERVE IT?
u guys can get back 2 me. *licks LOTR side*

hownovel: Uh. This is a joke, isn't it? I find it hard to believe someone so ignorant actually exists.

orly_bloom_lova: w/e stay in w/e denial u want, just so u guys no, i have nothing against the movies, @least they have qte guys in them

hownovel: I hope you know I'm not trying to be condescending, but I honestly can't understand what you're saying.

orly_bloom_lova: i just think its a lil bit unfair that rowling clearly stole the few cool things her books had goin 4, shes not really original

hownovel: I have to disagree on that. I think J.K. Rowling is quite the original writer in general. It's simply that within the fantasy genre, similarities are bound to happen, because there is one basic plot for all fantasy writers: A character the audience will enjoy and relate to in an extraordinary circumstance. For instance, it seems obvious both writers set out to create a central character that, with few exceptions, was really very ordinary in both looks and personality, hence the similarities between Frodo and Harry. They are not very extraordinary, it is their situation that is, and in turn their situation that shapes them. Whereas characters that the reader is supposed to dislike will very rarely be portrayed as beautiful. Wormtail and Wormtongue for instance, even Severus Snape, who, despite being an apparent "good character" has a ghastly personality, which is reflected in his appearance. Have you even read the Harry Potter books? It doesn't really seem like you have, but I could be wrong. My point is, nothing is original in this world, because everyone borrows from everyone, and it's impossible not to let past works of literature influence us as both readers and writers. Have you read the book Invisible Monsters? I remember a quote from the book I use often which goes "nothing of me is original; I am the combined effort of everyone I have ever known." That's true. Tolkien did indeed set the bar for fantasy works, and everyone after him has been unable to top that. But J.K. Rowling does present her audience with an enjoyable, and overall original work of fiction.

orly_bloom_lova: Well you actually make REALLY good points (plus major props, that qoute is really nice) damn i h8 admitting im rong... all apoligies, HA but ur semiwrong about 1 thing (I win, Iwin, lol) i read the 1st 4 books.
IM REALLY SORRY, I DIDNT NO WAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT....im not as ignorant as i seem :'(

_elektra: In my day, trolls were actually amusing.

orly_bloom_lova: really, thats funny, in my day people were allowed 2 have there own opinion, man things have changed

girlflesh: I don't think you can say "in my day" when you're twelve.

orly_bloom_lova: im 13 and the "in my day" im responding 2 what she said, mayb all u guys should read all the links where i have a civil conversation with the writer of that entry hu is a very good person because unlike u guys im not gonna sink to the level of name calling and going on MY journal to insult me, ps am i a teeny bopper becuz im a girl hu likes qte boys, if so, then im not the least bit ashamed,

girlflesh: Well thank god you're not gay. We'd have to kick you out of the club then. Bad trolls aren't allowed to be gay. You're not even funny.

anonymous: OBL you and the word CIVIL don't mix.
Learn to speek English, btw.Orli would shoot himself if he knew he had you as a fan!!
Dumb LOTR troll.

orly_bloom_lova: you don't know me

anonymous: We don't want to.

So... uh... WTF?

ETA: conversation updated (it's gotten anonymous!), and all links removed.

Does anyone have any? I think I need it.

Now I have to wonder if this person was real or a sockpuppet gone bad. Alas, 'teh stupid' seem to be coming out of the wood work these days.

(Have to admit the defense of Rowling that hownovel put up was decent. Not what I expected in such a wanky fandom.)

I love the First Amendment. Because it works both ways. You can say you agree with barely-legible comments over how LotR pwnz Harry Potter because the former's movies had more cute male actors. And I can say that I don't really care, since your shift key appears to be broken, but your capslock key works fine.

Isn't that wonderful?

You know, I'm not even fucking American (or even fucking Americans) and even I know that the First Amendment has to do with preventing the passing of laws or carrying out of actions by the state that would inhibit free speech among the unwashed masses proletariat and nothing to do with private citizenship stating their own opinions, even when it dissents with the opinions of others.

In other words, in my forum (e.g. livejournal or my sites) I can stop you from saying whatever the hell I want because, while I think I'm the LAW I'm not actually. There's nothing to stop you from saying whatever the hell you want against me in your own forum. Nothing I do prevents you from having and stating your opinion. And on the flipside, nothing you do can prevent me from having and stating my opinion that your opinion sucks ass.

Dear God. Not only do I seem to understand the first Amendment better than this... person, I'm starting to use American slang. Shoot me now for I have been assimilated.

furthermore. i think it is unfair and rude to insult and critisize someone of whom you dont know at all. and to put one of ur little harry potter names "troll" to address her. I find that truly imature and insulting to me as well considering shes my best friend. so listen to me now.

Anyone who's that impressed by someone's use of a quote (relevant as it is) is the type of student that makes me reconsider my career choice.

in my day people were allowed 2 have there own opinion

In my day, people had to back up their opinions with facts, use correct grammar, and refrain from sputtering obsceneties while arguing a point. I miss those days, back in high-school the 1800's.

SHE CAN STEAL $ FROM THE PEOPLE HU ACTUALLY DESERVE IT
