And Champloo means what?
The lowdown: Samurai Champloo is a new anime that's basically Cowboy Bebop set in feudal Japan with rap in place of jazz. Sexy art, sexy swordsmen, spunky lass and the scent of sunflowers. No, I don't get the last part either.

The controversy: Samurai are totally ghei! vs. It's all just a satiric stab at you idiot yaoi fangirls!

The rebuttal: I'm so totally leaving you losers! By someone who had not posted in the community at all...

The verbal seppuku: It's already been licensed before the fansubbers even got a chance to show it to the elite anime watchers! And the "death of a great anime before it's even started in Japan ::slumps head::" whilst someone chops the head off to spare them the pain of hara-kiri at the mere prospect of dubbing.


All because of the damn gay fireflies...

Champloo, or rather chanpuru (http://www.wonder-okinawa.jp/026/e/phi_1.html), is Okinawan stir-fry. (So "Stir-fry Samurai"? ^^;) Mugen, who's Okinawan, supposedly developed his fighting style as a mixture of techniques taken from here n' there.

And if anyone wants to see a fandom that's a satiric stab at yaoi... "Kyou Kara Maou!" deserves pimpage for a kid getting sent into another world by being flushed down a toilet and and accidentally being engaged to the world's bitchiest uke, in his words, "the blond bishounen."

Sadly, the gay fireflies mainly act as a catalyst for rediculously contrived emotional bonding between other characters entirely, but you get that.

Wow, my new favorite show has been wanked already, and there are only, what, five episodes out? I knew I shouldn't have started writing fanfic for it so soon.

And also, the continued licensing wank makes me REALLY want a nice "Bitch, Please" icon. Samurai Champloo IS something that I'll buy when it comes out and I have actual money. In the meantime, it's still being fansubbed; you just have to know where to look.

Wow, this is kinda mild compared to other rabid nasty yaoi fistfights I've seen. I like people talking about samurai like they know something beyond what Kenshin and Tom Cruise taught them, though.

It seems Geneon's pre-licensing a LOT of stuff lately. I went looking for Champloo a week ago after my friends said they saw it recently, and went "wtf?" when I read it was licensed almost a year ago. That makes two I know of so far that Geneon's done this to, Tenjou Tenge and now Samurai Champloo. If it means we end up getting the anime faster, hell, pre-license more please!

And I'm not saying that just so I can laugh at the little wannabe sub elitist fankiddies' heads exploding. No, not at all. *innocent look*

Maybe ADV and GONZO can do some of this pre-licensing stuff...the children from that union would be, like, Uber-anime... *starry eyes*

Best part is, pre-licensing takes away that nasty habit of leaving fans in cliffhanger limbo with the stories they'd been following earlier. Quicker distribution is a benefit for all English-speaking audiences.

Oh yeah, and making the elitists shut the hell up about 'knowing it while it was pure and holy.' I swear, it's as if Calvinism met the anime format.
