Perhaps you can find something more vicious, but there's some good bits here...
The truth behind the Harry Potter "Book Six Name" hoax is out, and of course the utterly-disconnected-from-anything-resembling-reality HP fans are acting like the hoaxer cooked and ate a baby right in front of them. The article is cute. However, minor hysterics erupt in the comments:

"It's obvious he meant for innocent fans to believe his dirty trick. I hope Rowling sues him."

"I would love to call this kid plenty of horrid things right now, but do to the moderators I will settle by calling him a repulsive jerk. How could anyone be so lame! ....Lame, pathetic, repulsive, immature, jerk...that is all he is...."

"What this thoughtless ("I didn't think...) person did was wrong and foolish. He never even thought about the fans, which is unkind and the opposite of what we try to do here in HPANA which is to be thoughtful and courteous to each other."

"Tis guy is the world's number one jerk.....how dare he even try t impersonate JKR.....he certainly desesrves some punishment....."

"How dare you lie to us you big jerk!!! but at least they fessed up. but still... that was rude, lying to everyone out there..."

"It was not nice at all, i didn't like this man."

Uh...kids? It was a JOKE. Yeesh. My favorite so far is this one:

"It wasn't very funny!! he ruined the title surprise what the hell was he thinking!!"

I wonder what world she lives in that the hoax was the real title-- Oh, wait, she's got a Photoshopped Harry-marries-Hermione icon. THAT world. Got it.

I'm actually impressed iwht this guy. Back when I was somewhat involved in the HP fandom, we would often joke about starting rumors and seeing if people bought them. This guy actually did it.

I've gotta say, I'd be amazed if someone said they hadn't been tempted to do so. I know I've often felt the urge to light a fire under the collective ass of the fandom, be it trolling or no, just to sit back and enjoy the outcome. But I think the recent battle over the 'real' title shows that HP trolls can't really pat themselves on that back - anything will rile our crowd up.

Hmmm. It's like deja vu, all you have to do is switch the words around a bit, and presto:

"What these thoughtless ("We didn't think...) mods did was wrong and foolish. They never even thought about the rest of wankas, which is unkind and the opposite of what we try to do here in fandom_wank which is to be inclusive in our snarkitude."

"These mods are the world's number one jerks.....how dare they even pretend not to know what was going on.....they certainly desesrved to have their modding priveliges taken way....."

"How dare you lie to us you big jerks!!! but at least they fessed up. but still... that was rude, lying to everyone out there..."

Fandom_wank: officially just as whiny as the Harry Potter fans.

Is it sad that the first thing I thought upon seeing the domain hpana.com was that someone had gone and created a Harry Potter-themed pro-anorexia site? I really have been here too long.

(So would it be a site for pro-ana HP fans, or people who like to write angsty badfic about the characters having eating disorders?)

Agreed. Half-blood Price is sort lame, when compared to the one that the rumor!dude came up with.

And Potter fans must rejoice at the fact that rumor!dude got JKR to release the NEXT title. Atleast now we've got something new to argue and make new wank about ;)

Meh.

While I think the joke was kinda lame and the title was just plain silly, [I mean come on folks if you can do that why not go all the way and do something like 'Harry Potter and the Three Way with Malfoy and Snape'] I still think hacking her site was majorly uncool.

You should have included a link to The Leaky Cauldron's comment section, too.

Current highlights:

"It also doesn't matter if his hoax was or was not clever. If this was an issue in all things, there would be many rapists, murderers and child molesters who had their cases thrown out of court because the jury thought they were clever."

"The hoaxer should be exiled and not allowed to read books 6 or 7 at all. That is a fitting punishment."

"Real Harry Potter fans DO NOT go around pretending to be the author. Real fans do not let pranks get this far out of control. Real fans do not wait until they have been proven wrong to apologize.

Even people who aren't fans do not GLOAT during what is supposed to be an apology if they are sincere about it. This guy just wanted attention; otherwise he wouldn't have come foward at all."

"So the hoax may have led to JKR giving us a very small amount of info about who the HBP isn't... well, I would've rather not had that info if it meant this hoax hadn't happened. It was a cheap and dirty trick, an insult to JKR, and an insult to us."

"The hoaxer should be beaten within an inch of his life and then given the Dementor's kiss. Period."

Y'know, I think I may have an idea of why this fandom is so damn batshittily spoogy.

Apparently they're trying to achieve in seven years (so far) the craziness the Tolkien fandom achieved over the course of several decades.

Unfortunately, the end result is like putting a medium-sized car with a top speed of 250 mhp and can go 0-60 in under ten feet but takes 30 yards to brake properly into an area that's 10'x100' for a demonstration of its impressive abilities.

The car's performance is obviously spectacular, but then again, so is the inevitable crash when it hits the wall at the end.

I just find it incredibly amusing that people are taking the title of a book so damn seriously. You all know that as soon as the book comes out they're going to be kicking and scratching anyone in their way to get it - so what the fuck does it matter what the book is called?

The extremes, they are teh funneh.
