Scooped by the Washington Post!
In yet another example of the man being wankier than his fans, the Names & Faces section of today's Washington Post reported the following tidbit:

...George Michael certainly is getting testy.

He decided to shut down the entire chat room on his Web site because, well, people weren't singing his praises or telling the 41-year-old former pop star what he wanted to hear. Rather, his fans boldly mentioned that the singer looked old and overweight. (Memo to fans: In the future, this would be a no-no.)

At that, Michael took his ball and went home. He posted a message on the site saying: "There are plenty of places to read people slagging each other off, but I wasn't trying to create one in opening the forum. Those of you that want to carry on the media's work will have to do it somewhere else, I suppose."

His little tirade ended with: Sorry guys, but that's the way it goes... Peace and Love... or nothing at all."

Can we say bitter?

Love and light, bitches.

My internet connection's acting up, so someone will have to confirm that the site I linked to above is actually the site in question.

Though there still remains that burning question: If it's a post reporting on offline paper media which in turn reported on the wanky actions of a former pop star on his website (oh, excuse me, Web site)... where does that post belong? Quick, someone create a new and relevant community for it!

Your link is to the main page of the George Michael site, if that's what you were aiming for.

I'm not sure if this link will work, but it goes directly to the forums and his goodbye message, and an mp3 downloading complaint.

You think he'd be a little more hep after being caught arrested that public bathroom...

I don't entirely disagree with his decision. It's tacky to come to someone's own damn website and slag them off. Official websites for celebrities are generally for the *fans* and since GM is probably paying for the bandwidth/disk space he has every right to expect visitors to be respectful and courteous towards him and his work.

OTOH, shutting down the forums should be a last resort. He should have established some basic ground rules and assigned moderators from regular posters who have a history of thoughtful, intelligent and respectful posting to enforce the rules. But to close the forum in a self-pitying snit, which is what it seems like he's doing? Definitely wanky and a stupid PR move, to boot.

Maybe he should let someone else mod the forum?

Why does that sound so familiar?

Because you are incapable of letting anything go. You really should stop beating that horse. It's dead already.

Obviously, you think it sounds familiar or you wouldn't have an issue.

Take your attitude problem to we_wank. That's what it's there for.

Have a nice day.

being able to catch a hint doesn't indicate a guilty conscience unless said hint was subtle.

"Sirius, getting your drift is not difficult. It's really more of a projectile than a drift."

Poor George Michael. It must be hard to be one's own BNF.

I read that in the paper this morning and my first thought was "I can't wait to see this in f_w". The wank, you can see it a mile away!

George Michael, God it's been such a long time since I heard anything from him.

Great, now I've got 'Father Figure' stuck in my head.

Is Boy George planning a comeback?
