Kerry/Edwards: They Wank Themselves
As those who monitor [info]political_wank already know, the Kerry/Edwards campaign has been generating shipping. Lots of it. Like, faux-tinhattery shipping. It is a thing of beauty and a joy forever and the John Squared lj comm definitely wins the award for funniest RPS locale evar.

But. Inside this merry fandom is a STORM brewing. A storm of MOMENTOUS proportions. It all started when the moderator posted a poll of the community members...

[info]finalrequiem declares, reminiscent of L Neil Smith's libertarian sci-fi, that he'd rather vote for None of the Above but will pick Bush/Cheney instead even though he doesn't like Bush either. When asked why, he declares that because the candidates suck this time 'round, he'd rather keep things the same until they get better ones.

The wank breaks out in full force. Spelling is analysed. Intelligence is insulted. Genitals are brought into the picture. The name of Abe Lincoln is invoked.

God, I love politics.

Did you hear that?

That was the sound of [info]sjdr using up the entire world's supply of rage.

Oh noes.

We have no more rage left.

Does that make me the root cause of liberal outrage burnout syndrome?

Cause, hey: apathy. It's like world peace, in a way.

Hi, I found my name on this site by doing a search on Yahoo, and yes I remember being beat up by 100 posts for simply having an opinion that differed from others, but I found the JohnXJohn thing funny... Cause that's all the news was talking about at the time, and the pics they had were hysterical.

My question is, what is the point of this post? Is this another 100 lashes out at me? Or is this 100 lashes towards those who claim to be Liberal and talk about how Liberals are the most compassionate party in Government, except if your opinion differs from theirs. Cause that was the best part of that posts that were made that day I enjoyed... was how they drooled on how Kerry and Edwards represent true compassion and care for our country, all the while dogging me out on every little thing I said.

That's the amazing part about humanity that I will never understand, how organizations who claim to be for saving lives, and saving people... go out and beat the crap out of people who disagree with them or kill them... Like how an abortion activist will go out and kill a doctor. What the fuck is that? You want to save a fetus but if it grows up to be a doctor, we might just have to kill it?

Heh...sounds like my political science classes. "HOW DARE YOU THINK DIFFERENTLY THAN ME! You must kill babies then!" Then comes the wank. I mean, the first statement had some twisted logic in it. But the reactions some people have...well, they make it the wank it is. Wank responding to a wank make it ooey gooey.

And Kerry/Edwards slash? *deaded*

Ah so much yay! The classic, spelling his the new IQ test.

Moderator (dear god, how did I end up doing this? HOW DID OVER TWO HUNDRED PEOPLE JOIN SOMETHING I DID AS A JOKE!? I'm okay, it's funny) here. I kept watching the thread, watching all of the replies spew in my inbox (since I was the one who made the post to begin with), and thinking... should I freeze it now? Hmm. How bout now? Should I? Ooo, now we're insulting icons. I mean, uh, should I freeze?

And then I decided, no, you can't stop the wank. You can never stop the wank.

Two days old, and already been fandom_wanked. I'd be proud if I weren't... uh... I don't know if there are words for what I am.

This is why I don't argue politics anymore: both sides will staunchly believe that they are right and the other side is wrong no matter what you do. I just pull my head in quietly and think the way I want to think.
