Well, maybe not glorious, but definitely convoluted.
ETA: I take it back. It is glorious.

Hey, everyone! Been commenting a long time, but first time posting.

Just thought I'd point out that an amazing mushroom-patch of wank is sprouting up on the LOTR thread over at Fanfic Hate.

It started with an anonymouse making a little bitchery about "scholarly" essays that purport to define elf sex. Then another mouse comments flippantly about the Mithril Award the scholar has won, and the proverbial shit hits the fan.

Just mention anything related to the Mithrils, and the sycophants, detractors, random snarkers, and generally confused come out of the woodwork. There are even snacks!


To quote Miracle Max: *smacks lips* It's so perky. I love that!

Oh yes...

I'm now dying to know what the shadowy figures behind the Mithril are supposedly going to do to anyone they catch speaking out of turn and I love the way anyone who does sign in on their side is dismissed as some innocent front man for the evil overlords and their plans for fandom world domination.

It amuses me that all the HASA representatives swear up and down "We're not elitist asshats! We're not! Slander!" Here's a tip, dears: if everybody says you are, maybe you should take a closer look at yourselves?

Exactly. I'm willing to believe they're not elitist asshats, but they're giving off an impression of being that way. Correct the impression, and I bet a lot more people would be sympathetic.

A sincere question: how does one change the impression of being an "elitist asshat" while still taking the position that, yes, some stories ARE better than others? That a person has the right to judge one story as being better than another is precisely what some of the anti-Mithril posters are decrying.

You folks may be interested in the comments to this entry (http://www.livejournal.com/users/ghyste/49597.html) -Ghyste manages to get a Mithril Awards committee member, the guy who runs the HA yahoo group, and Elizabeth Wyeth all to comment. What strikes me as odd is that E.W. mentions having an LJ, yet she isn't logged in to make her (long string of) comments.
