More RPG insanity from those kooky, kooky Valimer kids: In which it is revealed that one mean reader's reviews are so horrifying to the poor shrinking violet players that they can't bear to play with anyone she reads. Some of the more mind-boggling quotes: And I'm not afraid to say that yes, I DO find it creepy that you're so obsessed with Sean Bean that you'll set up camp in a strange game just to painstakingly dissect "his" chats. And I'm far from the only one.
It's not the fact that you review. Reviews are good, even negative one -- often especially so. But some of my players are not terribly thrilled with having their characters picked apart and their playing ability insulted when you can't possibly be working off of a large enough infomration base to make accurate reviews.
That's the problem, see. Not "negative." "Inaccurate," "ill-informed" -- "biased," even, in contrast to the pup(s) whose actor(s) you're already obsessed with. Others have pointed out that you can't judge a book from a page, and you can't judge an RPG character from a single chat. It's that simple.
Yes, this game is public. That doesn't mean we're writing to entertain you, or to meet your standards. So you'll have to forgive my players if some of them really don't like you or your intrusions. Quite frankly, we didn't do the same to your game, if you have one, which I suspect you do -- so we'd really appreciate it if you'd respect our wishes and not resort to childish "nyah nyahs." Honestly.
I don't want to start another fight or add fuel to a flame war. But I'm tired of you waving little red flags and only getting replies from the 2-3 people who think you're peachy-keen. I don't, and I'm tried to keeping my mouth shut for fear of being Fandom-Wanked. Review all you like, but please stop being petty, and please leave my players alone unless they agree to your scrutiny. Some like it, some don't. Have some class. Stick with the first category. It's petty and intrusive to review writing unless you have specific permission from the author? Who knew? Nope. No skin off your nose.
But it's going to be skin of Sean and Nick and Peter and Natalie's noses when the GOOD players in the game won't TOUCH those characters and all that IS left is for them to play alone because... you know...
People hate you.
You're interfering in the game. That goes from someone who has a right to watch and one of the lurkers that the game enjoys to someone who is a troll and a nusiance. I lurk. I write feedback. I do however keep it CONSTRUCTIVE rather than destructive and it makes all the difference in the world.
not your lurking that's the problem, or your focus on one or two characters. It's your god damn holier than though lousy attitude. My god! Now giving feedback to a publicly posted RPG is interfering with the game! It wasn't meant to be a threat. I see it more as a warning, something you need to be aware of. (And no, I wasn't "anon.") Nobody's "blacklisting" you. However, as the mod I can tell you that there are players who do not want to be "reviewed" by SS, and they can see that she won't respect their wishes to be left out of her reviews, and thus they are leery of playing with you as a result.
I'm sorry if that pisses you off, but it's their right to be uncomfortable with stepping into the "spotlight," and their right to back quietly away from it. It would be nice if SS would simply see that yeah, she IS making people uncomfortable, and it'd be polite if she'd respect that. But she refuses. So...that's the result. Honestly, it's such a big game you probably won't even notice. If you really don't care, then shrug and move on. Negative feedback is MEAN! Why, why can't this terrible person either love us or keep her mouth shut in her own LJ? It's rude! There's plenty more whether that came from, and the wank is ongoing, so maybe we'll get lucky and hear even more about how horrible it is to read and review publicly posted RPGs.
