OMG U Plajerized me! - Fanfiction Wank
Starza posts a Yami no Matsuei (Descendants of Darkness) fic over at Yamifics on livejournal. It's a common fanfic theme - darkness hiding behind a sunny exterior - but dealing with common themes is perfectly valid within fiction, right?

Not according to Catesith18 and Honooko! They are dedicated to stamping out fics that present dark!Tsuzuki because that's ripping off of other fics that present dark~Tsuzuki and that is wrong!

Honooko:
*sigh* Okay, look. Two people have just pointed out that it sounds like a rip-off. Want proof? Fine.

'Monsters'
And I loathed the way he could soften his glares into genuine, shy smiles, when mine were always such a mask, and the way he could fall so -easily- into love, even though he had never had the chance to even love his family. And the way he looked at me, so clearly, fearlessly.

Your fic.
I thought it would be a great challenge, but it wasn't, to my dismay. This is what happens when you live a lonely and deserted life. It's all too easy when you show affection. Like a little lost puppy, hungry for any scrapes, he lapped up my hand.

You can't tell me that those two lines do not express EXACTLY THE SAME IDEA. And that's just a start. In fact, I have a document open on my comp right now. I'm comparing. And believe you me, this is just the beginning.

What? Hisoka's growing affection may be seen by dark!Tsuzuki as a shockingly quick shift due to his being locked in a basement his whole life and dying in a horrific manner? Say it ain't so!!!

Bonus: An actual ripping off of ideas is pointed out, and the author admits to it.

Kind of reminds me of what happened in Calm Dichotomy. I was posting a little drabble idea and someone accused me of STEALING HER COLORS. The oh so original colors were a default LJ theme(Foresty Nature).

I think there's a big difference between having similar ideas/being inspired by an idea and plagerism.

:( And this is why I decided to take a break from writing now.

Btw, I was kidding with Eag.

Plus, the line itself is common in many other books and literature. I have yet to get a courtcase from them.

Sorry about misreading the kidding, it was late last night. *sweatdrop* Personally, I think you should stick it to 'em by writing MORE, but that's just me. I tend to decide whether the person insulting me is an idiot or not, and if they're an idiot then I point and laugh. But everyone has their own way of dealign with the whining of the masses of idiots critisism.

Well, it wasn't just these morons that made me decide to stop. :P Other small little incidents building up in the fandom just... makes it not very fun to write for anymore. I write because I like certain ideas. I write because I like seeing my favorite pairings get together.

I probably won't stop writing, period, but just stop writing for YnM for a while.

How lovely, the first YnM wank in ages and it's about plagiarism! Are we reaching HP quality (if not quantity) here?

I've read both fics too, plus a couple of others with, guess what, exact same ideas. Also, that example paragraph? Psht, please. The idea there is that Tsuzuki is surprised how easy it was for him to gain Hisoka's affection, and let me count the fics I've seen that happen...

And while we're talking plagiarism, you can take nearly any fluffy Tsusoka fic, compare it to another fluffy Tsusoka fic, and Lo and Behold! SAME IDEAS! Sometimes even the same damn lines. Fics with Tsuzuki and Hisoka getting together? All the same. Even mine. Partly because that's called "writing in character", and if you have two characters, one situation, you're not going to get too much variation out of it.

Shucks, I think I wanked just a bit now... Forgive me for the splooge, I'll get a minion to clean it up.

Meh, I have to disagree with that. I can imagine a variety of reasons for someone to act differently in the same situations with the same people. Just because you can't imagine them acting any other way doesn't rule out the fact that people do.

The Tsuzuki/Hisoka relationship is pretty much canon, though, so it's not a real surprise to see that take more than once.

Which is why I love writing them in a whole bunch of different ways from a flangsty sort of build up (Heart to Heart), to a thing they regret (Addiction), to a not-so-healthy sort of way (Temptation) and so forth. Yes, I'm such a pimp. :(

If you do write characters in a certain way, people will say, 'well, I can't see it, so put up a OOC warning!' This goes with other pairings too, like some people will see a pairing while others won't and rag down on you for it.

Then there's a line where if we should call something 'OOC' or not. When are the characters acting OOC? Where's the line when we make that call?

That's the major flaw with already made characters, you have to put them in a situation like that, but because of their already built histories and personalities, they're going to react certain ways. And those ways may end up crossing with someone else's, especially when they share the same views that you share.

*Cleans up mess*

Hey, I was just wankin' it up there myself ^_^ Of course, every person can react differently in certain situations, depending on things like mood, time of day, the alignment of stars etc ad infinitum. My hastily made point was that the fics I'm talking about? Have the exact same situations. Also exact same character interpretation, which is a BIG factor in how any given situation in a fic unfolds.

I've written a bunch of flamebait myself, where the characters act different from the fanon-approved interpretations, so...

Yes, how dare she extrapolate a similar notion when they're both working with the same source material.

Why do fangirls need to believe that they’re Marco fucking Polo when it comes to fanfic? And that they can be only ones who’ve ever explored new territory, when say, the Chinese have already been all over and "discovered" the place thousands of years ago... >_>

Well, when I posted up the drabble for it, no one bitched. The feel is still there from the longer version, but it conveys the same idea.

I froze the the threads on Yamifics itself to prevent more wankage, because, well, the way it was going, that's what it was going to turn into. If that means we need to toughen up... *shrugs* I rather stay the same than sploy all over a community that's not mine. :(

I did read her fic when it first came out and recced it to others. But the influence for mine definitely didn't come from her fic, it came from some personal discussions in the past that I was thinking of at the time, long before I was even into YnM. Plus the line that the person gave me for the drabble was hard to come up with a story that wasn't dark or that involved Muraki/Tsuzuki. >.> I'm thinking that I should've stuck to my Muraki/Tsuzuki idea now. <.<;;

Eh, I didn't really expect this fic to get this much attention at all. There are plently of other fics I wrote that I would've expected to get flamed, but they didn't. O_o
