comic con 2004
Europanya makes a post titled "Europanya’s Adventures at Comic-Con 2004: or “How I Delivered David and Billy’s Lunch.” Where she unknowingly mentions other LJ members who were there in a bad manner. They find out!

And prepare to smack down here and here.

Tiny sample ;

Disgruntledjenn: The only happy thing about your post, is reading that you barely got any time with Billy...you certainly didn't deserve it. But think of it this way...he will probably remember that "big book of crap" but definately won't remember YOU. Now that makes me happy :)

Enjoy :)

ETA: Deletions and flocking! Too bad I still had the page open.

http://www.sparklies.org/~froda/europanya.htm

Trying to get the replies in there as well...

ETA2: Mmkay, some helpfulness in the comments with people sharing their comments and her replies to them.

ETA3: So as it stands, replies deleted, journal deleted, fanfic site deleted. Nice.

Keeee-rist.

Remember folks that only those who *deserve* autographs should get them. And God forbid you should get hot, tired and annoyed while waiting in long line, in stifling heat.

Heh, since you can't see all the replies, I'll show yall mine.

"I'd like to agree with my friend here. I was one of those who waited in line for 3 hours, yet didn't move once, and then I had to leave to catch my plane. So, I stood in line for 3 hours, and still didn't even get the chance to meet them. I spent major money flying all the way out there, and could have cut in line with my friend (the one with the huge bag if you will remember-the one who had been at the Con waiting in line since midnight who really did earn her time with the guys) but I didn't think that would have been fair. I should have been a real fangirl and cut in line. Since I actually earned my ticket and didn't just have it given to me. I stood in the packed mob you talked so much about to get my ticket and still didn't even get to meet them.

I just think you have a lot of nerve to bitch about other people taking a long time, when you didn't earn your ticket or your place in line, and actually didn't earn the chance to meet them.

And the birthday book for Billy was a scheduled event. The person who was giving it to them had an appointment with Billy to give it to him. You would think you would stop to learn the situation before you just started griping about it."

And her reply: "What better way to get the "full" story then to post my own experiences from my own perspective on my own private LiveJournal!

Some math: 350 ticket-holders X 5 minutes to present Billy with a bag/book of crap in an autograph line when it could just be mailed
=29.16 HOURS.

WOW! No wonder you missed that plane!"

And my reply back to her: "Yes, I understand about it being your LJ, but you haven't had a problem with other people coming by to read it until someone revealed you for who you really are. A no good fan who didn't even bother trying to get there early to get tickets to either of the signing and who just had them handed to you. I'm really sorry you couldn't weasel your way into Dom's signing. Didn't have any ABC "connections" I take it? Pity.

Since we are doing so good at math (and nice calculator usage by the way, I'm so very proud), why don't we see how long it took for all the people who cut in line to get through and get their autographs. Now you'll have to forgive me, as I'm nowhere near the math whiz that you are, but I'm thinking it took longer for the people who actually stood in line when people cut in front of them, than it would have if no one had cut in line. I could be wrong, you'll have to check my math and let me know."

Stupid bint. I wish I could have seen her cut in line in front of me.

Because real fans WANT to wait for five hours behind a guy who's afraid of soap. If you aren't absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to get covered in second-hand BO and stand there until your bladder bursts, you don't just don't deserve an autograph. You certainly don't deserve one if you attempt to help out well-connected friends and make things a bit easier for the celebrities and their minders, no, you should be standing in line polishing that sense of entitlement instead.

I can't help wondering about charity-girl, though. If it was arranged through his publicist, couldn't they have managed a more appropriate time?

I can't tell if they're defending their friend or bitching because they didn't get an autograph and she did. Though, I did enjoy the "I sacrificed more than you, I'm a bigger fan!" bits.

Cripes. I'll take rabid anime fanboys to this anyday. At least it's fun to watch them flail around.

I can't imagine standing in line for hours for 2 seconds and an autograph... the closest I came was an hour and a half in the cosplay line at Katsucon! *boggles* Of course, I'm also someone who managed to get an autograph from Piro and Seraphim after waiting aprox. ten minutes... *giggles* Never would have gotten it otherwise!

The mind boggles, it really does.

I love how just standing in a line (for however long) constitutes earning stuff, but running around getting people food doesn't. This makes a ton of sense to me. Oh yeah.

Standing in lines is boring and annoying and apparently smelly as well but...that doesn't mean running around like that isn't effort.

Personally, I've never understood the attraction in conventions to begin with. I've been to a couple, briefly, and got so bored I left within an hour or two. I'm SO glad I didn't go to Comic Con this year, though it was obvious from last year that this one would be hell. Hey, if people want to be masochists, fine. But all this bitching because somebody managed to avoid a bit of that sounds like pure jealousy, to me.

The only LOTR fan event I attended (other than the Trilogy) was the signing at Best Buy earlier this year, and that was a very pleasant, comfortable experience. Shit, if it hadn't been, I'd have left. How a name scribbled on a piece of paper could possibly be worth so much hassle beats me. But then, there's so much about geekhood that leaves me scratching my head.

Um, yeah, sounds like a lot of fun was had by all. I'd love to go into debt to go to the next con and stand in a huge sweaty crowd for hours on end to get a scribbled signature and a "move along!" barked by my favorite celebrity's bodyguard, and then whine about it, but I think I have an elective root canal scheduled.

For those who didn't read, I give you quite possibly the best part:

Fwap fwap fwap….

I don’t know how long it takes two actors to have a pee break, but I can tell you it is rather lengthy when it comes to Tooks and Gondorian Stewards. The moans and groans of the fans blanketing the outer walls is becoming quite serious. I can hear this big English guard guy walking around outside telling everyone to stay calm, staaaaay caaaalm. It’s only a pee break! Wenham and Boyd will return!

Hahaha... I can't believe people are fighting about this crap. Who cares?

I don't care if you had to sell your body on the street for a year before you had enough money to get there and then one person pushed in the line in front of you! Why does it matter?

Just because you had a harder time getting an autograph, doesn't mean you deserve one anymore than anyone else.

Sometimes I think people take things to seriously.

Here's a big "I don't fucking get it" to both whiner and whined-at [whichever is which] ... Jeez, all my friends who went to ComicCon came back going "I WAS SO FUCKING DRUNK! FFS. Last Con I went to I spent more time in the bar than I did anywhere else. It's a HOLIDAY. People need to learn how to relax.

Okay, I can understand why someone would be miffed about not getting an autograph....but this charity gig was set up by his publicist to stand in line for hours to get an autograph on some cat binder? Who fell off the turnip truck yesterday and got their skull ranover?

And I'm going to go ahead and say it: These fans who do the charity bit in the name of celebrities are 99% of the time (there are exceptions, but they are few) doing it not for the charity but so they can get in the actor's face. Parade that bullshit "you don't know what you're talking about" or "my friend raised ten thousand dollars for killer whales who live in mansions in Zimbabwe in the name of Leif Garrett", but we all know what the fuck this shit is really about. If it wasn't, Miss Cat Lady wouldn't have been so keen on stealing everyone else's time in that line to show him her catbook.

So, if you're going to complain, complain about it all. Complain about catbook lady for presenting Billy with an odd situation of having to sign her cathouse book, too. Because she stole a hell of a lot more time than Miss Thang who got her poster signed.

Now I remember why I don't do fanclubs and conventions. *eyeroll*

And if these charities are so important to these people, they wouldn't be standing in a line for two hours to get a goddamn book autographed by a hobbit, they'd be volunteering and busting their ass to get their name out there so they could raise some *real* money. Not spending all their time nagging a hobbit to sign a catbook.
