My Ship Has Artistic Subtlety
All this [info]dierondie wank has introduced me to parts of the HP fandom that I never knew existed, virgin territories with unexploited wank.

From the self-aggrandizing fannish absurdities file, I present to you the Artistic Subtlelty, The Key to See H/Hr thread at Portkey.org. In which a lot of Harry/Hermione shippers talk about how they are true artistes.

Gillian Halliwell starts things off by wondering why some people ship Harry/Hermione and others don't.

So, that got me thinking; what is in the H/Hr relationship that we see and that other people, at first view - to say it in a way - doesn't?
Then I started digging into our own ponderings on the H/Hr relationship, and realised something that, up until a certain point seems really significant.
There's an artistic subtlelty in H/Hr!
Take a look at ourselves, for an example,
There's Nic, who plays the Piano.
There's Sarah, who sings. (And here, I think Joyce does too, correct me if I'm wrong, sorry!)
There's Vic and Maria, who draw
There's me, Ballet dance and such.
There's Gil, who, as himself says "has always been a frustrated writer, now is an stablished fanfiction author'
There's Jim and the photo thing....
And if any of you are involved in the arts (or the design, which I find counts) and I haven't listed you, list yourself!
So? What's the pattern? What does this have to do with H/Hr?
Simply, artists see something in the world that other people doesn't.
When performing arts, the artists develop a certain sensibility to certain things about life that other people just doesn't see!
That's the reason why you'll always find it easier to fill a Stadium for a football game, that fill a theatre (half the capacity) for Opera!
There lies the thing!
The whole globalization thingy, it doesn't imply to globalise the artistic sensibility. Actually, because that's something that can't possibly be done.
Two artists wouldn't experience the same feeling when watching "Pierrot's Death" from Matisse, but they will understand the meaning! While other people, who wouldn't place the feeling first, wouldn't get the meaning!
Do I make myself clear?
Put it like this; you can have the whole world reading Harry Potter. And they will all follow the story, and keep with it.
BUT! Only those who are able to experience the feelings of the story will get to the real meaning. Only the people who can actually put on Harry's shoes and feel, before attemting to understand will get the true meaning!

Hermione's Phoenix replies:
Artistic subtlety. Yes, I do think that many of us have that. We're constantly looking beyond the so-called eminent ship to the one that makes more sense. The one that feels right. H/Hr shippers are people who don't just look at the surface but are ready to find the core, the meaning. To them Harry Potter isn't just a pastime.

It's not a pastime, it's a religion!

laurie_strode22:
Some people look at a painting and say, 'look, how pretty,' but others can get the feeling the artist was trying to convey and see that a painting that looks 'pretty' is really sad and one that looks 'dark' and 'depressing' is really beautiful. If that makes any sense...

Harry Potter is not pretty! It is depressing and beautiful!

Cara de Luna:
Some say the artists have a diferent sensibility, feeling, precision of the things. I think it's true. They tend to see the world from some kind of a diferent perspective. They tend to feel more than see.

Maybe it's what we do. We feel the realtionship between H/Hr instead of trying to see it. R/Hr say that they see that relationship. We say we don't coz we can't feel you know?

We always look for the feelings hiden in the actions, the way they act, even in the words and the way they say them.

It's all about perception...and feelings.

Feelings, nothing but feelings.

Eulology:
It does seem that more people with some deep understanding of artistic sensibilities have an easier time picking up on the underlying H/Hr clues. I'm a classical pianist for the majority of my life by the way and I like to dabble in some amateur medieval art (I have a small gallery in elfwood.)

H/Hr. It's like classical music. In a way.
