!!
this is my very first wank post here... I'm so excited!
For anyone involved in the theatre fandom on lj, you'll know that Wicked fans are the wankiest of all of them. I love the show, but hate the fans.
Recently, Kristin Chenoweth, the original Glinda, left the show, after 9(?) months. Her replacement is Jennifer Laura Thompson. Being as she's half a foot taller than Kristin, and a natural redhead to boot (the character is written as a blonde), the fans rally against her. In the [info]wicked_musical community, [info]xluckystar2107x posts an anti-JLT graphic. Some people agree with the sentiment. Others don't. People discuss famous short actresses, wigs, the obc, and other wanky subjects.
Later on, she reposts the graphic in [info]theater_icons, where she hopes people will appreciate it more. They don't really care, they're just sick of seeing it.

And while I'm at it, another Wicked wank! Yet again, this has to do with a replacement for an original cast member. This time, it's Randy Harrison, who took over for Christopher Fitzgerald as Boq for a short time. [info]pottergrl66 posts a review of him, saying that he's "too gay" to be believeable as a straight character (in giant orange text). Everyone yells at her for being a giant orange homophobe. She defends herself by saying that she has a gay best friend. No one cares.

That's really about it. I hope I didn't mess anything up.

Damn. I just listened to the Wicked OBC and was starting to consider finding a message board to discuss the show. If that's what they're like, I think I'll avoid them. I had enough of that sort of bickering the last time I was on a Les Mis board.

Wicked fangirlies are HORRIBLE. They're worse than any of the 100 worse Eponine fangirls you've ever seen.

Don't get into that fandom!

Thanks for the warning...I'm steering well clear. That was the same thing that kept me away from 'Rent' - the 'stage door' mentality.

the Rent fandom is bearable if you can find a small group of people who are sane. the fandom at large is AWFUL, but I've managed to find my nice little niche, and I'm perfectly happy.

Most of the old school Rentheads can be funny and bearable, if a bit smug. The ones who glomp Matt Caplan at the stage door are the ones to stay away from. ;-)

CompulsiveBowlers.com tends to weed out and discourage said idiocy. I'm kinda sad the siteforrent board is no more, though...

I'll admit that I got a bit giddy at stagedoor the first time, but don't think any less of me for it!
personally, I think that compulsivebowlers bring the stupidity. that's just me, though. =/

Ah, but there's a difference betweeen 'Hi, I've been to see the show tonight, would you mind signing my playbill?' and 'Oh my GOD! HI!!! Do you remember me from the five million times I've hung around waiting for you before! Let's be bestest friends! What do you mean, stalker???'

She defends herself by saying that she has a gay best friend. No one cares.

"Some of my best friends are gay! No really!" O_o

If her best friend would have been gay and black, that would have been classic.

The Randy-wank made me laugh, because there was a similar discussion in the Queer as Folk fandom about that. However, most of the people who saw it said he was wonderfully not-Justin in the role. So. I don't know.

They're bitching because Randy is too gay to play straight? Please, why doesn't anyone bitch because he's too tall to play a fucking munchkin? Oh, no sorry. That would be criticizing the stupid show, for casting normal sized people to play munchkins and thinking people will think it's so cute and clever. They were right. Morons.

Jeez, I can't wait to see the wank explosion when Idina Menzel leaves.

Er... in the original Wicked book there are a fair amount of normal-sized Munchkins (Elphaba and her parents are). Plus, finding a huge amount of midgets would probably be too hard to cast. That's probably why Nessarose has arms in the show.

I remember a line in the show about Boq being tall for a Munchkin. I'm not sure if it survived San Francisco, though. (I saw it there, not in New York.)

I have a copy of the script (don't know how accurate it is, though, it was fan-transcribed), and there doesn't seem to be anything in there about Boq's height.

Mmm, yeees... For whatever reason, Wicked definitely brings a big, Broadway-sized dose of spooge wherever it goes. Thanks for encouraging my fast from the wicked_musical LJ community, though... For it is as frightening as I feared! Ooh, did anyone post the hullabaloo over Avenue Q's triumph at the Tonys? It's old news now, but that was definitely good times a-wankin'. ;)

Just a side note: My new favorite phrase is "big orange homophobe."

What? No teeny tears over Joey McIntyre's casting in place of Norbert Leo Butz? But Joey's my boyfriend! :(

"Big orange homophobe" is truly one of the greatest trios of words ever strung together.

I always thought the We Will Rock You fandom was really wanky, especially about Tony Vincent leaving the OLC. I stand corrected.

I was very proud of the big orange homophobe bit. I was secretly hoping someone would comment on that.
Depending on who you talk to, I either got kicked out the wicked_musical community, or I left of my own free will. People kept posting quizzes & memes and stuff, and I made a very polite post, asking them to stop. People yelled at me, and I got the usual if you hate it so much, why don't you just leave? And so I said, fuck that, I will. Same thing happened in the rent community.
(the best part about being the moderator of the broadway comm on lj is that I can tell people to stop posting quizzes and they have to listen to me. I love my job.)

I liked it so much, I made an icon. *sekrit shame* ;)

That icon's the cutest thing, too. Maggie!

Ugh, I remember the meme/quiz wars. "omg1! l00k! im nesaroze!1 idina n me r sistrs!!1" over and over and over... I heard stories of friends' pages exploding in under an hour. ;D

You get three medals of Braverism (hee!) for putting a foot down. :D I always vowed it'd be the quizzes or the continuous, "Could some1 send me the mp3 of eden singing defying gravety???" in wicked_musical that snatched my sanity. It was probably both, really. :P

True, but I thought Kristin Chenoweth's face had a real, "you big poopie-head!" quality... and wouldn't "giant" probably be one too many syllables for thirteen-year-olds to realistically spell out? I was thinking analytically there. :D

Oh beautiful. I was waiting for someone to post this wank. I just posted in my journal the other night about the whole [info]xluckystar2107x bit. What I especially loved about that wank was how she was begging people to let the issue die, and yet she made three (http://www.livejournal.com/community/wicked_musical/745662.html) more (http://www.livejournal.com/community/wicked_musical/745085.html) posts (http://www.livejournal.com/community/wicked_musical/747448.html) about it.

Apparently, all of the oh so mean people have caused [info]pottergrl66 to leave the community forever (http://www.livejournal.com/community/wicked_musical/780267.html). Oh tear.
