Why is this too solid flesh not melting? ([info]apoplexia) wrote in [info]fandom_wank,

Why would they give me pink armor?
Many of you may be familiar with the popular web series Red vs Blue. If not, suffice to say it's a series of brief movies acted out using the game Halo and then dubbed over with amusing dialogue.

Over on red_vs_blue, a community where normally people just get together to talk about what they liked in the previous episode, lasarus has the temerity to ask "I don't suppose there's anyone else here who slashes RvB? *g*"

And we're off! Highlights include the now traditional question:

WTF is "slash?" I see that it's M/M M/F and so an and so forth. M/M M/F what exactly? Do please tell.

dupa explaining that the reason it's called slash is that "It sounds better than: obsessing over polygonal videogame characters having straight, gay and animalistic sexual tendencies in very poorly written wordpad documents."

And schroe's tragic tale of loss: "Unfortunately one of my friends fell into the slash fiction writing with Invader Zim and I haven't really spoken to her on the same level since."

Bonus: keep an eye out for our very own [info]jaina showing up to fight the good fight.

ETA: The latest video, which details some of the ways in which dealing with people on the internet is different to dealing with them in real life, suddenly seems very apropos.

"Unfortunately one of my friends fell into the slash fiction writing with Invader Zim and I haven't really spoken to her on the same level since."

Many of my friends fell into slash and took me with them and our conversations have been so much more uninhibited and funny since.

(Okay, so the icon isn't entirely appropriate, but it's close and I haven't got to use it in ages.)

I don't know if I could communicate with an Invader Zim slasher either. Every time I tried to talk with her I'd be all "...you do realize one of them is, like, 10...and the other one is an alien...right? Right?"

I don't know, I definitely see the slash... or I did until I remembered that Zim's an adult, he's just disguised as a child. Then I freaked myself out at the dirtywrongness of it all.

But there's some good Dib/Zim slash around.

Oh, there's no denying it. There's no basis in REALITY for them coupling. But UST between those two is hilariously fun to write.

"Unfortunately one of my friends fell into the slash fiction writing with Invader Zim and I haven't really spoken to her on the same level since."

Unfortunately, I can understand this. I've met some slashers who fail to separate their fantasy life from reality and can't talk about anything but friggan' slash. It just makes me want to smack them and go, "Life! You know, the thing you should be living! YOU'RE MISSING IT!"

...I also don't think they realize how incredibly boring it is. HAHA MALE SEX YET HOT AND FUNNY WE ALL GET IT shut up now. There's much, much more to life than plotting out the imaginary sexual actions of fictional characters, at least try to build a scintillating conversation.

A-fuckin'-MEN! Although this seems to happen with basically anything that you can obsess over, but the addition of hormones usually makes it much, much worse.
I actually know someone like this. You can literally distract her by saying, "Look! Over there! Ken from Weiss Kruez!" Oh, and she literally has flash cards for all the attack names in Naruto, which she studies in math class. Save me.

The reason slash is bad is because bringing up these new relationships totally undermines the characterization that the original authors have done. You're no longer writing using those characters, you're just applying their names and chiches to your own characters

Because no Het writer in the history of the world has EVER mis-characterized a character, or undermined a canon relationship.

there's some visuals about Lopez and Shiela that we don't wanna think about.

Well, as far as Lopez/Sheila goes, it pretty much a doomed romance. She's a big phallic symbol, he's a robot and probably asexual. And then there's Caboose who's attraction to Sheila seems more Oedipal than anything else. Whereas if he were with Donut...

...what? I can't be the only one who thought about this, can I?

*is so uploading the Donut/Caboose OTP button when she feels it is safe to delete and upload icons on jf again*

How does that even work, btw? I honestly can't imagine anyone writing slash about Invader Zim. It just seems so... pointless. That's like writing He-man/Skeletor slash or something. Only if they were big-headed chibi people.

Since noone else got annoyed, I will:

SAME-SEX. SLASH IS SAME-SEX.
