Finally, some wrestling wank!
Our poor fandom is so dependent on mailing lists that it's hard to find good wank roaming about, but found it I did! Even if it is your standard "finding God" wank.

"I've found religion again and can no longer write smut or use curse words, just thought I'd let you know!"

"EXCUUUUUSE ME, are you saying you're better than us?!"

"Of course not. By the way, you're very sad for being agnostic."

The born-again in question also says she's gonna leave the board as a result of the backlash she's received and it's PLEASE DON'T GO to the rescue! And she decides to stay after all. And the originally offended person posts an apology.

Bonus amusement:
"I'm agnostic and whenever someone tells me God bless, I tell them God doesn't exist."
"What you defined is atheism. Duh.."

Also:
"Well your fics suck, anyway!"

It's a baby, I know. ;_;

There's been so little wank since Jeff Hardy left WWE.

I didn't know LadyJ's board was still going, but will definitely be following this.

Anonymous was right though, that story does suck.

Stesha honey, please stay!! I totally understand how you feel. I'm a Christian too, although I don't really show it in my stories :(

You're a Christian? Well, shame on you! God doesn't approve of such dirty things! If he did, he wouldn't have gave us the magical stork!

Oh, wait...

Argh. Why do I have to be Agnostic when there are people like this who take everything SO FUCKING SERIOUSLY?! And the one post that basically said, "Everyone STFU" was good until she said Agnostic=Athiest. *sigh*

I'm an agnostic, who is somewhat certain that there is (a) creator(s), but has no CLUE what form he/she/it/they take(s) and/or which religion (if any) are right. Personally, I suspect it's like the Blind Men and the Elephant. An agnostic friend of mine says that the universe gives him an awe-inspired feeling that makes him suspect a Creator, but he isn't certain about that.

So, yeah. Not an atheist. Hell, I've known a few agnostics who have come over from atheism because they don't feel certain in their belief that no god exists, and an agnostic-atheist (he believes no god exists, but he also believes that no one can prove if god exists or not).

Who knew that agnosticism had such diversiity?

I never said Agnosticism didn't have diversity. For instance, you can earnestly believe in souls, the afterlife, and all sorts of philosophical quandaries while still being not too sure of there being a God. And you can not believe those things, while still not being sure if there's a God.

But there's one tenet that bands these groups together. Theism=belief in a God, Agnosticism=not sure if there is a God, and Athiesm=believing God doesn't exist. That part is the only thing that's cut and dried.

If you are actually certain there is a God, by definition, you are a theist. You may not belong to any particular branch of theism, but if you are sure of the existance of God, you are a theist. If your friend believes that no God exists, then he is an athiest. That's fine if he believes that it cannot be proven. I'm sure there are a lot of theists who believe the same thing about God's existence. He can call himself whatever he most feels comfortable with, but by the very meaning of the word Athiest, he is.

This is just how these things are defined. These are primary to each group, and breaking them means you go into another, just like believing in the divinity of Jesus is one of he primary definitions of a Christian.

That's what I have a problem with in the post I mentioned earlier. You can believe all kinds of different stuff and still be Agnostic, but break the one tenet and you're not. Otherwise, anyone could call themselves Agnostic or Athiest and nothing would make sense.

I've always said I was agnostic, but I've been thinking of telling people I'm a deist instead, just because about 75% of people have no earthly clue what that is.

And to me deism seems like the most cynical belief system in existance.

Most people don't know what either of them are. :D I can't tell you how many conversations I've had that have gone like this:

Person: Well, what religion are you then?
Me: Agnostic.
Person: *look of abject confusion*
Me: Er....kinda like an athiest. It would take me too long to explain. -_-; *pets*

As an Agnostic, Deism is one of the few beliefs I can see happening. Mostly tinkered with the idea of God creating the universe just to appease his multi-dimensional boredom, and just watches us like a coach potato watches TV. XD I don't really see it as cynical, just....sensical. I mean, you can't go wrong when the Founding Fathers liked it! :D

Actually, there's also a shade of difference between hard atheists and soft atheists. A hard atheist believes that God does not exist. A soft atheist simply lacks a belief in God. (a=without theist=belief in God) God might exist for all the soft atheist knows, but the soft atheist doesn't personally believe in him. As one soft atheist friend of mine puts it to monotheists, "There are thousands of gods you don't believe in. I just don't believe in one more." I think the term "non-theist" is better, though, since everyone does assume that atheist means you believe God doesn't exist. (Some people also seem to think that as an atheist one couldn't believe in any supernatural phenomenon like ghosts or an afterlife, but they can.)

Agnosticism is, I think, is also supposed to mean you think God's nature is unknowable one way or the other. But I've usually heard it used to mean, "I don't know." So you're right, if you believe God does not exist you're not an agnostic, you're an atheist. (A hard atheist, at that.)

I've heard of the soft and hard athiests before, although that brings up the issue of what exactly it means to "believe" something(I've seen far too many discussions over this one). I've heard of many athiests who resent the word "believe" and say that they know from science, yadda yadda. And then what technically would seperate that from soft athiests?

I tend to stop putting the athiests into further categories, since it usually gets insanely complicated. For my personal use, I find its useless to try. I usually just have to ask for them to further explain their beliefs, especially since there simply aren't words to describe much of it. For instance, as you said, being an athiest and believing paranormal things. There's certainly no way to get that across other than just coming out and explaining it. Even if you could, there are many different paranormal beliefs that one can believe or not. And I agree with you that Atheism carries a lot of connotations, and in many cases non-theist works better.

BTW, your icon is damn cute. Nun-Blythe. SQUEE! XD

If her new-found belief is sincere, then more power to her. I just wonder, based on her e-mail address, romantiqueHBK, if she found religion because she discovered that Shawn Michaels is also now a born-again Christian, rather than a true conversion.

However, I think she was dead rude and condescending in her original post -- just write the damn stories without the cuss words and sex. Then if her readers ask, "Where's the smut?" she can give them the reason privately.

Of course if you want daily wank in wrestling fandom, you're looking at the wrong sex. Wrestling wank mainly comes from its male population -- try the Lords of Pain message boards, tEH st00pid there is overwhelming.

I don't think wrestling fandom is quite as dramatic as some of the anime fandoms. And certainly doesn't hold a candle to the big ones like HP and LOTR. It's a moderately scary fandom, I'd say. ;)
