You people make me want to kill myself
Kijikun just pointed out to me that I had posted this in the wrong FW. Thanks!

This was sent to me by a friend who does not have a JournalFen account. It's long and a little old, but it's good.</pre>

Ding, Ding, Ding - the winner hands down….Batshit crazy

For over two years a slightly insane woman in multiple fandoms has been plaguing the Yahoo Groups boards with her sockpuppets and fake suicide notes. I am surprised no one has mentioned her here before.

Her name is Gloria and she's in Hawaii Five-O, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Combat and Dark Shadows (maybe more) fandoms. At last count she has over 100 socks and they all talk in defence of her. And if they aren't defending her they are sending out death threats, they regularly get her tossed off of Yahoo for TOS violations. (Of course she claims, she's being stalked and that's why she had to close those accounts down - although 4 years later she sings a different tune and claims she had surgery and the accounts were stagnate and that's why she lost them to YahooHell). But we know where the original post is: http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/TheIslanders/message/770

If someone talks badly about Gloria or catches one of her socks (by doing an IP trace), then Gloria's husband, 'Russell' will get online and threaten everyone to leave his wife alone, as she's a "sick" woman. And if it's not Russell, then one of Gloria's "close, personal" friends will pop into the list and post or attack her critics.

In his latest post (Rus has been banned from Yahoo a few times himself for threats), he threatened people with legal action, apparently Russell believes that tracing IP's is ILLEGAL! Apparently the FBI will come to your house and arrest you if you do so! http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/TheOldHouse/message/1670

The Old House has OPEN archive, so go and read all the posts, but here's the highlights:

"I just popped in to let those people who have been terrorising my
wife, invading her groups and contacting others off list and
spreading rumours about her. I won't stand still for it. Not now. Not
ever. With the help of AOL's security team, we are in the process of
bringing charges against the hackers and identity theives that have
gained illegal access to her ISP numbers. Maybe you did know this,
but just looking at those numbers is a Federal Offence. Yahoo is
breaking Federal laws by including those numbers on posts and e-mails.

If you use them to trace her to her ISP, then you are considered a
hacker, and a potential threat to her life. The FBI will not take
this matter lightly. Best of all, AOL does the prosecuting for us.
All we have to do is provide screen names. And we 've got plenty of
screen names!"

I can't keep my socks straight!!

Gloria has been booted so many times from so many lists under so many socks she cannot even remember what list she's posting to! See here: http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/TheOldHouse/message/1682

She thinks she's posting to a Hawaii Five-O board, when actually she's on the Dark Shadows board! Apparently she founded TheIslanders and TheOldHouse lists, but after she got booted those Yahoo accounts were no longer available to her, so these lists are completely unmoderated and a free-for-all. But, still almost weekly Gloria insists she is the MODERATOR of these lists and demands respect from HER members and you must listen to her!

And the Rod guy she's talking to in that post is the person she threatened to kill a few years ago with a gun. She got tossed for that and later deleted the post, but it is cut and pasted in the victim's next post: http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/TheOldHouse/message/756

Scroll to bottom to read Gloria's threat of, "Just because you were born with male genitalia DOES NOT make you men. A MAN, doesn't spew filth from his mouth every ten seconds! Women can do anything men can do, and THIS woman isn't afraid of any horse's backside like you! Come and visit me sometime. I have a nice Glock 9 mm automatic in my nightstand drawer. I'd love to blow your face and your head all over my bedroom wall! You DO NOT OWN THIS LIST, either moron. Just give it up."

Here she confesses to some of her socks, but not all of them. BTW, it seems her whole family was posting on these lists in her defence! http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/TheIslanders/message/1191

Her reasoning when being "caught" and her socks outed for what they were -- phoney ID's. http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/TheIslanders/message/1296

Alas, in the end, Gloria repents her ways and promises to be good, here:

http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/TheIslanders/message/1406

It doesn't last long and she's back to her old tricks.

When you've been asking yourself, where a good fake Internet suicide when you need one? Here it is!

In reality, Gloria is most famous for her phoney suicide notes that have sent the police to house not once but TWICE! The first one, the police showed up and nothing was done.  Here: http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/TheIslanders/message/1266 Gloria laughs at how funny it is to make phoney suicide threats and involve the police!

The second attempt, months later, she threatened to starve herself to death and her "sister-in-law" posted about it: http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/TheIslanders/message/1267

Only a few days later, Gloria writes out her own suicide note! (Goodbye cruel world!)

http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/TheIslanders/message/1972 http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/TheIslanders/message/1979 (notice this is from another sock address)

http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/TheIslanders/message/1987

The police were sent, like the first time, but when they arrived, Gloria told them that it was a "joke."

The good bits: " I've decided it's time to end this miserable existance. No pills, no knives or razor blades, no guns...I haven't even got the guts to jump off a bridge, so I just refuse to eat. I've lost 20 pounds since the beginning of July. I'm not very heavy, so I'm hoping this won't go on too long. Perhaps, if I had the friendship of my daughters I might be able to continue, but I know that's impossible. They know my moods, and they know that I never meant a word of what I said, during that last and final argument, but they refuse to forgive me. I'm truly sorry for all that's happened. Please believe that. I love you both and I always will. As for everyone else, I apologize for any trouble I've caused you. My mind was screwed up, and I wasn't responsible for what I did. It was my illness talking, and not me. That's all I have to say.
Good-bye.
God bless you, and watch over you, Shawna and Melissa. (her daughters)
There's no need to respond. I'm leaving this group as soon as I've posted this."

But like most Internet suicides, she didn't kill herself and TWO YEARS later she's still alive and posting to this list under her multiple socks!

I think Victoria & Crystal both have reason to fear that Gloria may overtake them in the future for craziest person in fandom award.

The who with the what now? What ISP numbers are these?

That would be your "IP address", like 193.21.248.90.

I do not know what that points to, but it's valid. (Numbers from 0 to 255 in all of those slots. 0.0.0.0 and 255.255.255.255 are not valid, and because of subnetting other various combinations don't mean anything either. It's complicated and involves bitwise logic operations.)

It's basically a shorthand way of referring to a computer (the absolute way is the MAC address, which is a hardcoded thingus on your network card).

Saying that looking at an IP address is illegal is like writing a nasty letter and saying that the return address (on the fancy filigreed label!) is private property and reading it is a federal offense. If anyone wants to talk to you on the Internet, they or their computers or somebody's computer somewhere down the chain need to know your IP address.

So if that's illegal, then THE ENTIRE INTERNET IS BREAKING FEDERAL LAW EIGHTEEN BAZILLION TIMES A DAY, which must come as a real surprise to the Department of Defense, who bankrolled the whole Internet Protocol research and development.

If AOL has a crack security team, then why can't they figure out after a month of calls why my browser on 9.0 doesn't work?

As for looking at someone IP's numbers being a Federal Offense, what delusional planet are these morons living on? I guess since fandom_wank tracks IP numbers wen we post we are breaking federal law too.

ISP= Internet Service Provider (i.e. AOL, Earthlink, etc.)
IP= Internet Protocol (not real sure what it is, but I know they are numbers used to track your Internet access)

It looks like this Gloria woman has that mixed up. Looking at someone's IP number is not illegal, nor is posting them. Yahoo Groups includes them in every post and e-mail you sent out, I doubt they would if it was illegal.

I think Gloria needs to take her meds and get rid of her drawer of socks.

But, guess what, that 911 call, was recorded. It will be traced back to the caller, and that caller is going to get a nice stiff fine for filing false police report. That IS a felony. Hope you've got some money set aside for emergencies!...I may have have mentioned suicide, but my moods usually blow over within a day or two. My family just keeps watch to be sure. Of course, if you jerks would all get off my list and leave me alone, I'd start feeling better a whole lot quicker.

Dude, so they were worried about her putting up a freakin' suicide note, called the police to save her, and now tries to get them in trouble and blame them?! Uhhh.....errr....Earth Logic...taking...over.....

Oh, Ripper. I remember that. From what I understand was he was mixing various prescribed drugs with alcohol and reporting what he was taking and saying "let's see, some more!"

People weren't clear if he was goofing around or actually taking all these drugs. He had his cam on but people can put things in their mouths and then leave it on that image and go spit them out. There was a faked image circulating as well that compared to an actual picture was clearly not him afterwards.

People were trying to trace where he lived or asking if anyone knew where he lived so they could call emergency but it was too late.

brandonvedas.com has the chat logs... I'm going to go look. I feel a bit vulturine but I want to check memory against record as well as see about any possible charges pressed.

calling the police to save Gloria's live?

I'm the one who made that first call. :) There was no need to track me through a taped call, I gave my NAME, phone number, address, city/state and so forth. And my email addy.
AND I followed up the next day by faxing to the police all her threats of suicide, and some of her weirder posts.

As the person who made the second call two summers ago after Gloria posted her second suicide note to TheIslanders list (I am a different person that the first mouse). I too gave my real name, home address and phone number when reporting the possible crime to the local police in Gloria's area.

I faxed about 12 pages of Gloria's "suicide" threats and her crazier notes including her home address, so the local police could check her out. Other members of TheIslanders list warned me privately Gloria was pulling another hoax, but I refused to listen, citing the fact that if Gloria really did commit suicide I couldn't live with myself if I hadn't done something beforehand.

The police went to Gloria's house and again she stated it was a joke. The police officer I talked to the next day, certainly didn't think it was funny and told me if Gloria did it again she could be arrested; as it was a waste of his time and manpower by pulling these hoaxes, not once but twice now! He suggested we call the county on her to do a psych eval and maybe commit her. I figured why bother, burnt once, not trying again.

Gloria the next day accused the members of the list of trying to ruin her life. No, trying to save it was more like it! Yeah, sorry I tried to save you, Gloria.

Gloria has cried wolf so many times now, that I believe even if she was standing in front of me ready to jump off a bridge I wouldn't believe her.

She is deeply disturbed but I believe aware of everything she does including creating ALL the socks and takes great fun in using them to harass and bully people. Using her mental illness (to me, depression isn't an excuse for creating a sockpuppett army) speaks volumes of her character. Crazy like a fox is more like it. Don't feel sorry for her.... I made that mistake once, never again.

Way back when in the early days of OneList, "Gloria" used to post news items from the latest AOL news of the day -- not the links, but the whole freakin' story! Totally OT, and never with an OT flag, so she'd clog up your mailboxes right and left.

She also used to trawl the membership lists of whatever groups she was part of and spam listees with some sales pitch or other -- like hoaxes for Outback Steakhouse and Red Lobster. I vaguely recall her getting called on it by a list moderator, and then whining about needing the extra money.

I've been on a couple of vampire lists "Gloria" has been on. She regularly has about 20 socks at her disposal at a time and they talk amongst themselves on any given day. After one of the suicide notes, one Gloria sock told her "not to do it!" It would would funny if it wasn't so ridiculous.

After a few years, I've learned to ignore it.

I still think Yahoo should have banned her and her IP numbers for life when on the Dark Shadows (The OldHouse) list she threatened to blow that guys "brains" out a few years ago with a gun. At the time there was talk about filing a police report which is I think the only thing that will stop her at this point.

I think being arrested for sending threatening and harassing communications might snap her out of her craziness - or not. I personally thinks she gets off on all the attention.

I still think Yahoo should have banned her and her IP numbers for life . . .

Unfortunately, the only way for the average person to have a fixed IP address is if they have broadband. If they're on a dialup (like me), their IP number will change every single time they log onto the Net. ISP's own a range of IP numbers (confused yet?), and they use a whole bunch for their modem pool; each dialup user gets a randomly assigned IP when they log in. In such cases, the only thing that can be done is to ban their ISP from the forum, which will also block anyone else using that ISP. If it's some tiny little ISP with a hundred customers in Backwater, Alaska, they can get away with it, but if the ISP is AOL or Earthlink . . . well, the forum's likely to lose a major percentage of its members.

So, sadly, if she's using dialup, there's little Yahoo can do except play whack-a-mole with her sockpuppets, deleting them one by one as they're found.

Someone should educate her that:

1. Simply talking about someone without their direct knowledge is not slander. Possibly libel (given it's on the net and in writing and all) but not slander (which relates to speech); and

2. It's not defamation if it's true.

Apparently the daughters had the good sense to cut ties with her and move out and she retaliated by publicly cursing them up and down the Internet. Some mother.
