Just an update on Teh One Wank
Turi's working away and has a question for some of y'all.

Many interesting things afoot actually, in the One Wank to Rule Them All. Go here for what's up now.

Edit:
Yes, Turi is writing a book about it and is also asking for help editing as well. I think that this is the first entry about it. Keep an eye on her journal for updates about where/when it'll be available. :)

Edit the second:
Dude, I was just trying to see if Turi's request to use quotes from the C&D would reach the right people. Wasn't quite expecting the wankplosion. Ah, well. Wank on, dudes!

Okay. I know Jordan fucked over everybody and their puppy dog from hell to breakfast and all that. I also know that Jordan is a liar, cheat, thief, and asshat supreme. And when Sean Astin takes time out of his busy schedule to rat you out to the 5-0, well, shit, you must suck the big one.

Still, calling Jordan "Amy" just strikes me as gloating about Jordan's gender identity shit, and isn't there enough other bullshit going on there that we can make fun of? Seriously.

armchair quarterbacking is soooo easy in retrospect. the problem with some of the assumptions being made about the scam is people are forgetting that it didn't take place over the period of a week.

it was months and months of deceit and lies. told with long stretches of truth between them.

so, yes. looking back in retrospect it is all a bit crazy and we are left scratching our heads on how someone could be taken in by it all but you know what?

most of you weren't there. you only heard about it through fandom wank and through turimel's coming forward about it.

just remember, there are still people that are taken by the Nigeria Bank email.

as for the personal slurs against turimel, (and I don't know her from beans. I'm not even in the fandom) it would be easier for me to look askance at her and some of the supposed 'dubiousness' of her claims if most of the comments 'asking these hard questions' didn't sound like personal vendettas.

Am I the only one who read Turimel's intention to publish Amy Player/Jordan Wood/Whoever's handwritten suicide letter to her parents in this book and got a sweeping sense of WTF?!

In the end, we're talking about two gals who are psychologically very VERY confused and pulled a dirty trick on a lot of people, but there was no physical violence, no baby animals were sacrificed, and on the crime scale of scams this was some pretty small potatoes. That doesn't mean I'm advocating total forgiveness and forget-ness here, but... publishing a suicide letter feels like crossing the moral line of justice and veering into the lane of cruelty, given the circumstances. There's also the statements Turimel made that her 'hobby' was now 'stirring up as much shit as I can for two nasty bitches'.

Turimel, Amy Player is patently insane. What's your excuse?

Man, this is getting insane. I'm surprised at the accusations of wankery at Turimel, and I hate playing devil's advocate, but I really don't see the point.

So far, Turimel has proven herself a naive newbie to the net accidently phrasing some things the wrong way and getting crucified over it. Yes, she is being a bit wanky...I'd be, if I was being angrily questioned by people who only got the story from third-persons and the FW greatest hits archives, which is more like a light review of serial LJ offenders rather than a detailed analysis over such-and-such adventure.

Frankly, I'm more amazed at this MASSIVE failure to communicate between FW and this Turi. First, that Turimel has proven herself a newbie at the lj land by getting angry at the comments and not thinking before posting, then there's FW's anons who don't know the whole story and are shooting off comments without getting all the facts straight. Everybody looks bad in this one.

Then there's this book thing. Why are some people wanking about a book that's not even written yet, by an author 90% of us here will never seen in real life, about a pair of con artists we've only seen in the picture section of Yahoo News?

Perhaps FW as a whole has some emotional interest invested in the whole VB epic... the first rumors appeared here first and maybe some feel that the subject affects them in some ways... but for the most part, I see perfect strangers getting offended over books written by other perfect strangers and going at it as if it were their business.

Does Sean Astin think that Turi is a stalker? Who the hell cares? Chances are a huge percentage of people will never see EITHER of them in RL.

I guess what I'm trying to say is... dude, it's a just a book. And by the sound of it, a book you'll never see in your local Borders. So what's with the drama?

(And, in the end, what do *I* get out this, another anon stranger with nothing but time in his hands? A very interesting story to tell the grandkids about miscommunication in the net and the psychology of fandom. It deserves a real research study if you ask me.)

Did you not actually meet "Jordan Wood"? You saw her face to face? How could you, a physician, swallow that silly story? And I don't mean only the hermaphrodite cousin of Elijah Wood on the run from the IRA story, (though god only knows how you justify believing that to yourself) I mean the autosomal disorder story. Please. And you have the gall to say she is a morbidly fascinating study? Could it just be possible that you were titillated by this woman and her complicated gender/identity fantasy? That you wanted further contact with her, especially in the context of her claiming to be, in effect, related to a hobbit during a time when you were deeply immersed in The Lord of the Rings fandom? That the prospect of further actualizing that fantasy world by including real actors from the LOTR film was too enticing to pass up, even if it meant involving yourself in a scam?

I'm willing to go as far as believing that you only unconsciously knew it was all lies and freaked at the last moment and began to backpedal and deny, but Occam is whispering to me that no one who passed the rigors of medical school could possibly subvert her intelligence far enough to completely believe Amy Player's story. If a thing is not possible, then you have to look for the explanation that is possible. That explanation is that you did not subvert your intelligence at all. On some level, you knew more than you're admitting to.

Get some help, okay? I mean that kindly.
