Oh Good Charlotte fiction bringing up the wank.

This is actually old and uh, wanted to report this earlier. But still! This is a nice fun one.

Good Charlotte is a breeding ground for wank, but it's mostly thirteen year old girls whining. Good Charlotte fic though! It's now 16+ girls whining, so the quality jumps...well, one notch. They try honestly to spell, so I guess that's a good sign.

GC fic has a whole community based around the obvious fan favorite of twincest called "kinky_twincest"

Apparently, the new instated co-mods are very uppity about their criticism, more of the fact people reply with "nice story." Instead of real criticism.

I’ve been here for about a year, probably just over that now, and I’m going to be completely, bluntly honest here, because I’m sick of everything being so bullshit around here. Twincest sucks. Okay honestly, let’s face it. Every story is either the third part of a 30,000 chapter story that never gets finished (and yeah, that was totally me being a hypocrite, because holy fuck self, you’ve got like three of those), a lame “everybody has done it” PWP, and shit like that. Now I’m not naming anybody, cause yeah I’ll admit, there are definitely stories here that are the shit. And I mean the shit in a good way, just to clarify so you don’t jump up my ass for that.

Now, also with reviews. Holy fuck you guys, if the story sucks, why not give some constructive criticism. I’m not talking something like, “That was so bad dude, do everybody a favor and stop writing twincest.” I’m saying if they spell something wrong, switch between past tense and…the other one, mix up “your” and “you’re” (or whatever else, you all know what I’m talking about), just leave a comment and correct them. It’s pain free and I promise nobody will jump down your throat. And hey if they do, maybe I’ll kick their ass. You post a story, you get a review, like it or not. If you don’t like what people are going to say about it, then don’t fucking ASK for criticism.

She goes into greater detail and more ranting. I think it's a wonderful sign of modesty to rant, point out they do the same thing as what they complain about, but continue on anyway.

This goes on for 100+ comments of varying posts of anons going "boo! I don't have TIME to review your story!" to "established writers" leaving 4 paragraph long comments to basically say "I agree."

The biggest blow up happens here where there is the arguement of this being a hobby or not. Co-mod gets really pissed.

<< "I don't have time to review your story">>
Puh-lease.

If you've enjoyed something an author has taken his or her time to write and post -- time he or she will never, ever be able to get back -- then it's sheer fucking courtesy to drop a line in return. Even if it's nothing more than "I liked it," or "Good job."

People like that piss me off to no end.

I wish.
I seldom leave feedback anymore because of the strong and conflicting messages about feedback voiced by many authors.
Some feel offended by "I liked this. Good job." messages because they wanted detailed concrit, others get nasty if you leave even the faintest bit of criticism. (Ex; You might want to correct the word 'slat' in paragraph number 15 of chapter two, I think you wanted 'salt and pepper', not 'slat and pepper.'

After having my virtual head bitten off by ranting prima-donnas, I don't leave feedback unless I feel very strongly about something, and up to facing potential flames.

Hmm. I usually pick apart stories, then leave a mere "Wah. Your problem. Get a beta!" when their juvenile feelings get hurt.

Of course, I'm an evil bitch. Have to take that into account, I guess.

I also tend to run through a new author in the space of a couple hours, so I'd rather save it up for the stories I like best and tell him/her I read a bunch of other stuff, rather than send five seperate 'yeah, I liked this' emails. Because I at least would find that kind of redundant (though flattering)
