Some lovely HP wank: MWPP slashers are bitter and twisted prudes. Apparently.
Hello, everyone. I go by the name of Jenna Matthews, and I write B-list Slythfic in the Harry Potter fandom. Someone on my friends list pointed this gem in my direction.


Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs slash is evil.


I kid you not. Get a load of the first paragraph.


I am an unashamed Harry Potter fan and keen fan writer and reader. Nevertheless, there is one sub-genre I will never touch, that I have never read nor reviewed nor ever will, that I loathe from the depths of my soul: Marauders slash. Other kinds of slash I can put up with; indeed, I tend to write a gay Harry myself. But this particular slash seems to me revolting, an assault not only on the characters and their relationship, but on a basic kind of human decency and kindness on which rests much of our happiness on this Earth.


Speechless.

I notice she doesn't bring up Harry/Ron, isn't that a perversion of a beautiful platonic friendship as well?

A respondent argues that S/R is okay, because her unrelated personal experience tells her it is possible. However, James slash is just wrong because he omg married a girl, and gay people never wind up in heterosexual marriages and there are no bisexuals! I guess, or something.

Remember, every time someone "reduces this world of mutual unselfish contact to sexual desire," a part of the original text of Harry Potter dies!

I sort of see the point the person was trying to make, but hello, fanfic is fanfic. That fanon doesn't always equal remotely canon is obvious, and to say that one subsect of slash fanfic is reprehensible (Marauder slash) while another isn't (gay Harry), is bizarre. I guess Harry having sex with his male friends somehow doesn't assualt world happiness. (?)

Now, I can sorta understand...we all have preferences, and I myself don't agree with Sirius/Harry because theirloveissopaternalOMG! However, if that's true...JUST AVOID IT. Jesus, I don't like Sirius/Harry, I don't read the fics. Is it that hard?

*makes face* Nothing is worse than a fanfic reader/writer who is selective about which pairings she likes, automatically puts her own moral values into the mix AND expects everyone to feel the same way about it.

Hopefully someday soon she'll realize that tolerance and avoidance are the keys.

I can understand opposing a certain pairing, and I can understand opposing a pairing because it messes with the friendship; outside the consideration of slash, I honestly feel this way about Harry/Hermione — but that's the thing. That's how I feel. Which means I don't have to read it and I don't have to write it, so it doesn't bother me. This guy needs to just ignore it if it bothers him. It's not like he's being forced to read it. *rolls eyes*

WHAT THE SHIT. The people who don't get that writing fic doesn't equal insulting the original author and their work should just stay the fuck out of the fandom.

"Perversion of canon"? Isn't that what all fic is, more or less? Seeing as how people see the canon differently and all. I could call a G-rated Harry/Ginny fic a perversion of canon because I can't see Harry/Ginny happening in canon for the life of me.

Ah ha! Thought the name seemed vaguely familiar. He did many long-winded reviews in comics magazines in the '90s. Seems to have avoided Usenet, for which I am undoubtedly grateful. I slightly recall him on a Delphi board or two, though.
