'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' Wank
In honor of [info]teratologist's craving for chocolate; a deep rich multilayered torte of wank.

Over on IMDB is a page devoted to a remake of the movie based on Roald Dahl's lovely book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"
In the message boards, some people seem confused by the 'title change' and completely unaware that the 1971 movie was based on a book!!!

See book purists insulting the intelligence of movie fans, people complaining about and explaining the reasons for the various titles, speculation about if this will be a musical, how and if Danny Elfman and Tim Burton will save or ruin this film, and the hypothetical rotational movement of the author within his grave. (He loved the movie! No he hated it! But he wrote the screenplay! No, they butchered it!)

To make this pudding all the richer; the star of the upcoming remake is no other than Johnny Depp! See Depp fangirls squeeing, see Wilder fans bitching and moaning, see Tim Burton fans and haters duke it out in grand internet style!

This Wank has it all- watch posters invoke Manson (Which one, I'm not sure.) Nazi's, racism and Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon'.

So surreal. (Rather fitting, isn't it?)

I can kind of see him doing a cross between Ed Wood and Hunter S. Thompson.

I have no idea if that's a good thing.

Is it okay to say that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a shitty book anyway? Dahl's short stories were much better. Men turning into bees! Old women cutting their fingers off! Fabulous stuff there for all the family.

Dahl's blatant misogyny ruined my enjoyment of his short stories, as technically well-written as they may be. I still like his children's books, but I try to avoid the adult ones if I possibly can.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go reread The BFG again.

And you can all burn in fangirl Hell - NONE of you have any credibility. And I will laugh when this film comes out and it's worse than Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, PotC, Crybaby - EVERYTHING JD/TB RELATED - COMBINED.

You're all pathetic.

That's just too sad to be funny.

But as a Tim Burton fangirl, I'll go see this movie. The ending of Big Fish was a bit too typical sugary for my taste, but I pretty much love everything the man's done.

Plus I want to marry him & his wife.

As for Dahl, I haven't read this book, but I loved Mercedes, it was one of the strangest books I read during my childhood.

For me? I shall cherish it always.

Personally, I think that Burton should have done Great Glass Elevator instead. It would avoid the inevitable childhood-rapeage and toe-stomping that remakes tend to entail, and unlike in '71, we've actually got the special effects to do it justice.

Plus, you know, giant pink squishy space sperm. What could be bad?

Thank you so much for posting this!

If you'd never posted it I would never have gone back to that page, and if I'd never gone back to that page I'd have never clicked on the link to the kid playing Charlie's page to see what he looks like (absolutely adorable, BTW), and if I'd never done that I'd have never known there was a movie based on one of my favorite books from my childhood (Five Children and It) being made. That's put me in a great mood, although now I'm wondering how they're going to go about making the kids look as beautiful as the dawn.
