Behold the real creator of Mario!
OK, what I'm about to post didn't take place on a fandom-related board, but that's part of why it's so bizarre. :P

snopes.com, an urban legend debunking site, has a section on the forum called "We've got mail!" where they post assorted weird messages from clueless visitors. With some of these people, you just have to wonder why they contacted snopes about some of this stuff.

A guy who claims to be the creator of Mario has contacted snopes on a couple of occasions. snopes posted his latest message in its own thread called "He's baaaack!" And then, not only was he back, he was there under the name of "apachearrow."

He had one pic up that "proved" his artwork was stolen, but he seems to have taken it down. At any rate, it was just a bunch of mushrooms that would've fit in with just about anything from the 60's, or in the background of the Smurfs.

He said he was leaving, but ended up coming back, and the thread went for 13 pages, which is when snopes closed it. I can't pick out a highlight from his babbling, but if anyone finds a favorite, feel free to post it.

If this isn't "wankage," feel free to throw things at me. ;)

TheBobojustgotlaid: I too am an artist that was ripped off by the video game industry. I did the original artwork for the paddles in Pong. I never recieved any compensation or recognization! I know what this artist is going through.

snopes (David) is Barbara's husband. He mostly runs the MB and takes care of the crazies while she writes the articles.

Fun Trivia -

Shigeru Miyamoto designed Mario and Luigi with hats because quite frankly, he sucked ass at drawing hair.

He wanted his own crack potted high inducing version of Alice in Wonderland, and that is what Mario is. Mushrooms? Growth? Fireballs? Oh yeah, if anyone should be complaining, it should be Lewis Caroll!

Now that that's done... I can just -see- a Japanese company stealing a random stranger's art from America for their games. Hoyeah! The logic is dim in this one.

Honestly, if his art's been stolen for over thirty years, I'm pretty sure this "Mushroom Kingdom" isn't even the same anymore. Why complain about it now?

In the poor guy's defense, he's suffering from schizophrenia and other mental disorders (as evidenced later on in the thread with federal documents). Seems kinda mean to pick on the guy at this point, amusing as his his "case" is.

Oh, yeah, that and the fact he kept saying he was leaving and kept coming back. Regardless of how much he really believes his story, that crowd obviously wasn't the least bit interested and was unable to do anything. Had he just taken it to the law like he said he plans to, then I wouldn't find it so bizarre.

Then again, he's he's not the first schizophenic person to contact snopes. :P That individual sent several e-mails, but never made it to the forum...thankfully.
