Roffling all over the wanking world ([info]adora_spintriae) wrote in [info]fandom_wank,

Starsky & Hutch Wank off the port bow!
Popping my wank cherry...

In the beginning, was the dream-journal entry. And somewhere, Freud rolled over in his grave.

And then came the wank, and it was spoogtastic. Comments about how you can't be a member of the EGPAF if you're a part of S&H fandom, counter-comments about not mentioning the "s" word and accusations of libel, and they just keep feeding the troll...

Then comes the golden showers moments.

Finally, because you couldn't have the wank without it, the obligatory anonymous post.

Can you feel the friction-burn?

Let me get this straight... the troll was arguing that if you were a big fan of Starsky and Hutch, then you might give a pediatric AIDS foundation a bad name by giving it money?

Wait... what?

No, it looked to me like the "troll" was saying if you are a mega-obsessed fan of Paul Michael Glaser's, you won't be doing the EGPAF any favors by going to work for them because it will look like you're more interested in starfucking than in doing charitable good works.

At least that's what I read.

Yeah, that's what I got from the first comment. Looks like a case of some oversensitive fan getting OMGSOHUUUURT by what was a simple observation. The commenter is right - acting like an obssessive nutjob online isn't going to work well for her aspirations should she ever be connected to it. It really doesn't matter if she is or isn't - this kind of internet involvement can easily be misinterpreted.

(Just discovered I was the subject of a wank, so I came over to check it out;)

The first dialogue between me and Helene was a perfectly sensible dialogue. It was the resulting back and forth between her and others that exploded. I made a few observations on some of her comments, but mostly I just sat back and watched.

The commenter is right - acting like an obssessive nutjob online isn't going to work well for her aspirations should she ever be connected to it.

Ahh, yes. But really, what line is obsession and what is fandom interest? As I pointed out to her, being involved in fandom and being involved in my work, not really an overlap at all. Some may think it is, but it's not.

It may not seem that way to you, but it's the employer's opinion that counts in this kind of situation. That's why it's best not to connect one's real life identity with fannish interests at all. I've heard way too many stories about perfectly nice fans having their jobs endangered because someone at their work found out they were involved in online stuff. And those weren't people whose work was even remotely connected with their fandom. When you're involved in real life in a job that is connected with fandom, and where the higher-ups may very well view such involvement with a jaundiced eye, it raises the risk factor exponentially.

Agreed, and by the time I ever move up the ranks of the organization (which I am involved in at lower levels at present), my fandom identity and my real identity will be even more completely seperate than they are at present. While I do not see as big an overlap as others do, I would not do anything to jeopardize either my goals or the goals the organization in the identity I present.

aah, there it is.

Duh -- it's way too late. I should be packing, and trying to avoid that via the internet isn't working.

But.. wait..
Friend of OP comments that she's talking to the OP and who's telling her "just how offensive and cruel she found your remark".
That sounds very high school. I'm really not interested in a 'I'm Kimberly's friend and you're not' kind of discussion. Outgrew that decades ago.

and friend:
Glad you're so amused by your trollish behavior. Someone ought to be getting some amusement out of this.

Wow. I just realized that I'm fairly pathetic.

Oh, yes. It's one of the original slash fandoms, after Star Trek! :) Also, so very very slashy. Really. I mean, have you seen that show? The original buddy-cops-in-luv... if you go for that sort of thing.

I'll be in my bunk

So the chick can "identify Paul by his cock" and yet dreams he's her father?

Yeah, there's something a little disturbing about that.

The cock thing you're getting second hand. It was taken out of context from another conversation and an arguement was built around it. The dream image, however, yes...there's wildly weird issues going on there. Alot of my dream images make no sense from the head-on standpoint, but after analysis they stand for something else entirely. That's the beauty of dreams, often one doesn't have a thing to do with another....just your mind's way of making sense of things.
