While looking for something Amazon, I ran across (get this) A Tribute to Josh Groban. The concept is a bit wanky. The reviews are even more so. Enjoy.

I . . . but . . . *boggle* . . . *boggles more* Hi, I'm a Josh Groban fan and I'm completely baffled.

Don't people usually only pay tribute to musicians who have done something worthy of tribute? *ducks tomatoes*

Hey, no tomatoes from me. I love Josh and would happily have his curly-haired singing babies but unlike many people I am well aware that he's only just starting out.

Isn't he a bit...young in the music biz to have a tribute? And aren't most of these songs originally done by other people before Josh Groban?

That's why the concept is dumb to begin with.

A least a tribute to Josh Groban makes a little more sense than some of these artists. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/listmania/list-browse/-/3EFAHHLNFCPUC/qid=1094433544/sr=5-2/ref=sr_5_2/102-0870899-0020963) Well..no, they're all pretty wanky.

Though I must admit, I do think the cover of the Britney Spears tribute (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000050HXU/qid=1094433775/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-0870899-0020963?v=glance&s=music#product-details) is funny.

Ow, my brain! It's like a black hole of sucky music.

Although I'm am amused that the Britney Spears tribute has a sequel.

I like 3 Doors Down, but they haven't been around long enough for a tribute album.

And no, a tribute album for Josh Groban doesn't make any more sense either

There's a...tribute to Matchbox Twenty.

:cries a little at the butchering of If You're Gone:

Man, you know - I get the idea in theory. No-name musicians put out a 'tribute' full of popular top-40 music hoping to get some sort of attention. But...but... It hurts. It does.

I clicked on a couple, hoping they'd somehow be better than the originals. They weren't-- with the exception of the Britney one, which sounded almost indistinguishable from the real thing. :/ Pity, I actually like "Stronger", I'd love to hear someone with a decent voice rearrange and reproduce it.

...there's a tribute to Avril Lavigne?

I'm sorry. Excuse me, I'll be over in the corner crying and stuttering out a mangled version of Bowie's "I'm Afraid of Canadians" in order to overcome my loss of innocence.

Who buys these things and why? "Hmm...I love this artist, but I'd really like to hear the songs performed by a lesser talent!"

I like this review:
"I think it sounds just like Josh...that is, if Josh was completely void of talent, tone-deaf, and had strep."

Tributes nearly always suck. Learn it!

It's funny how I've never actually heard this guy's songs, I only know him from his incredibly wanky fandom that gets reported here. Hahah.

Though I suppose a LOT of musician/band fandoms would be reported here if somebody there was a f_w member. I myself used to surf some band-boards and after I learned the concept of "fandom wank", I realized the boards had weekly, sometimes even daily wankage. Heh.

Saw that last night, clicked on some of the samples.

Honestly? I'm a only a mini-music "expert", but some of these people (some, mind you) aren't that bad, just a bit overdone. Others make me cringe. The people that aren't too horrible need to drop the diva edge to their voice and could do quite well with classical music.

There's one for Clay Aiken too. Complete with orchestrated versions of those classic Clay Aiken hits, "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Solitaire."

I bet people buy them anyway.

Wow. Wherever Josh Groban goes, it seems a nasty trail of wank must surely follow. Complete with visible stink lines!
