Nascar - yes, Nascar - wank
It is with fear and trepidation that I post my very first wank... if only because it shows the world just how red my neck is.

Over at Fanfic Speedway you'll find a group of people who write fanfiction about Nascar drivers (most of it either slashy or Mary-Sue-y). And in the forum, a post about a recent race went from happy to wanky by the end of page one. Admin budwrench29 and poster dingda31 get snippy with each other over their admiration - or lack thereof - for drivers Kevin Harvick and Robby Gordon. Others post their opinions then back off. Dingda appears to like the sound of her own voice (or keyboard clicking, as it were); she threatens to leave the 'community' after two wordy rants on page two. Budwrench fires back with the tried and true bitch-out method of reposting a PM conversation for all to see at the top of page 3. All this over: "You said you liked my driver but really you don't."

Apologies if this one's a bit out there. It's a mind-boggling place to check out, if nothing else. Not that I go there regularly or anything.

As someone with a marginally famous pseudo-relative (unmarried mother of my brother's kid), let me tell you reading message board posts from teenage girls talking about the younger brother of whom you've got photos from when he was a toddler in a remote farm in West Virginia is a special kind of weird.

Likewise running a Lexis-Nexis vanity search and realizing a family member has had demonstrably false information posted about them in British tabloids. Or seeing IMDB wank about your nephew's name and thinking "yes, people, but if you knew what the rest of the father's family's named..."

(I skim message boards every once and a while about my brother's babymama, but I don't get involved, as not only do I respect their privacy, I'd rather not answer nosy fan questions, especially considering my brother and I aren't all that close and live at opposite ends of the country).

Rush was really horny one day after doing all of those drugs. He thought to himself, "Gee, I need to pound a Bush right now."

So he called his friend, George W. Bush.

I'm related through my father to the Allison racing family. When Davey was killed back in what? 1993? my mom sat in front of the tv and cried her heart out. I don't know if she met my cousin, but it really upset her at the time.

Man, I had never thought of Nascar slash! Ah and its so obvious that there would be. Then there would be other sports-related slash like...WWF. Gah. I think my eyes are bleeding now. My best Nascar related story is when dad and I went to Bristol and someone had taken a paper cutout of Jeff Gordan and shoved a huge Polish sausage through his open mouth.

Yes...my dad has me rooting for Jr on the weekends and my neck is indeed red.

... actually WWF slash used to huge. At least, back when I was writing giant Mary Sue fanfics that spanned 100 pages reading it.

But that was when I was 15, and I was a Kane fangirl, and we just won't even go back to that dark, dark time.

You want other sports slash? I got your English soccer slash right here, or rather, an excerpt in the second entry here. It's, uh, pretty terrifying, especially seeing as how you can read plenty about Wayne Rooney's sex life elsewhere without having to resort to making shit up.

There is WWFE slash. It kept showing up in ficlets over at my [info]15minuteficlets community on LJ. One of the (many) reasons I stopped following links and having comments emailed to me.

I've been in the WWE fandom for years. I was there the day the sea of Mary Sues suddenly pulled away from the shore and the fandom was inundated by a tidal wave of man love. I watched the young, former Mary Sue writers flounder as they tried to figure out what lube was. I bore witness to the day when slash fics outnumbered het fics.

Was I shocked by any of this? No.

It was only a matter of time before a fandom in which men grease up and roll around with other men in their underwear would feel the power of slash. I'm just surprised it took so long. You'd think people would have jumped on the slash bandwagon in THAT fandom a little quicker.

BTW...I am a WWE slasher. The only fandom I've slashed in to date. Go fig.
