Could it be... Surely not... HP wank *again*?
Oh yes, the boy-who-lived is bringing the wank again! It all starts over in </a></b></a>[info]hogwartshouses, when </a></b></a>meshou posts in defence of his/her adopted house, Hufflepuff. The spooge hits the fan when </a></b></a>[info]kittymitten comments that she’d hate herself if she belonged in Hufflepuff because she has such high standards for herself. What follows is essentially a slanging match between the two, with kittymitten asserting how intelligent, mature, and impressive she is, and </a></b></a>meshou asserting the opposite.

But that’s not all! The very next day, </a></b></a>[info]kittymitten posts with a set of lovely icons asserting once more the stupidity of Hufflepuffers. This, of course, is like waving a red rag to a bull, and </a></b></a>meshou is on hand to to provide us with the wanky goodness we all know and love.

Harry Potter wank™. It’s all you ever need.

*le sigh*

How about the good ol' idea that students have more traits than their house ones? Like, a student can be loyal and smart, but very loyal so they go to Hufflepuff.

Housewank again! It's sort of like WhiteHousewank, but more generalizing!

MESHOU: [NEEDLESSLY WORDED ARGUMENT]
KITTYMITTEN: uh. [NEEDLESSLY WORDED REBUTTAL]
[This CONTINUES]
KITTYMITTEN: Uh. Fuck you.
MESHOU: I feel so superior.

The funniest part might be that they're trying so hard to give definition to something so vaguely defined in canon. You really only learn about the one house anyway, as it's the only one the author cares about beyond the most basic of characteristics.
But if it gives them a kick to argue over fanon? Well, who am I to judge?

Good thing the person who said this appears to actually be stupid, which is why she's being regarded as such. It's so nice when things work out that way. Especially since she doesn't seem to grasp the idea that you can be stupid even if you get good grades and know stuff -- one of the many things the Internet has taught me is that being intelligent doesn't mean you can't also be a fucking moron.

Let me quote from my copy of The Audubon Field Guide to Fandom Wankers. I think it has relevance here.

~from "Chapter 12: Social Cliques in the Harry Potter Fen"

"...it is commonly understood that nowhere does life so resemble art as in the social interactions amongst the subspecies of the Common Monkey-tailed HP Wanker known as the House Wanker. The practice of sorting oneself into a House based on the four Houses of the books is generally understood to be a means of self-identification. The average HP fan participates in this game simply as a fandom equivalent of a psychological profile. Not a particularly wanky thing to do. However, the House Wanker is singularly adept at missing the point to the extent that he or she doesn't realize that the phrase "multifaceted personality" is not just some queer New Age concept. For your average House Wanker, not only do elementary school politics still hold the abiding fascination for them that roadkill holds for crows, their entire social life is a Mad-lib throwbacks. To wit:

"I'm in _(proper noun)_ House becuz I'm _(adjective)_, _(adjective)_ and _(misspelled adjective)_. I want _(number between 1 and 3)_ come over there and _(verb rhyming with either 'hill' or "cluck")_ you _(misplaced punctuation)_ becuz u r a total _(adjective rhyming with "dassgole")_ and I hav to respond. How dare _(letter of alphabet)_ ?

_(impossible sex act)_

_(personal pronoun)__ so horny. But I wuld sooner _(verb)_ a _(large animal)_ than a _(adjective)_ asshole from the _(uncapitalized proper noun)_ House.

I _(TMI moment)_ and so I don't need thiss stress. Also, I have lots of _(outright lie)_ who like me. I do't have any problems _(bad preposition)_ them.

So, _(misspelled username)_, at least I don't _(random hypocrisy)_. So leave me alone, you _(body part)_" becuze _(bad netspeak)_ and you make me _(incoherent rage)_ _(bodily dysfunction)_

_(SUPER wank)_ "

Have fun filling it out.

A final note. If you encounter one of these Wankers in the wild, be gentle to the poor thing. Don't mock it. It hasn't occured to them that nature has already pulled a crueler joke on them than you possibly could by sorting them into the largest of the real-life Houses: the DarwinianFuckups.

In my opinion, it's Gryffindor that has the potential to be the stupidest house.

"A seventeen foot tall firebreathing dragon blocking my way to the trapped princess? I WILL KILL IT WITH MY SWORD OF JUSTICE!!!!!"

*gets eaten*

In that situation, a Hufflepuff would navigate a path around the dragon so as not to meet it head on (because they are, of course, unafraid of toil). That's the thing about bravery - it's all very well in certain sitations, but it doesn't make you clever.

A Slytherin, of course, wouldn't bother going. ("Princess? Fuck 'er.")

Mm. I think the reason people get so offended about their houses being dissed is that it's like an attack on their own character. They're in the House, so they must share at least some qualities with it, therefore people who don't like the House are kind of hostile to its members. At least, that would be the reasoning.

To hear "Hufflepuffs are stupid!" is to SOME people a little bit like hearing "Boys are stupid!"

And I know it's just a fandom...but hey...fandoms do seem to come alive.
