There's a  Live Action  Neon Genesis Evangelion Movie in the works.

The fans are not amused.

Funny how people can know this when the cast hasn't even been picked yet.

I have to say, I'm surprised this project has gotten as far as it has. The likelihood of Evangelion being made into a live-action movie for general release is pretty much nil. Unless some top-drawer A-list celebrity makes this their ego project, it ain't gonna happen.
And even if it was, the producers would have to make many, many changes to try to appeal to a mainstream audience, like making Shinji and company college students (so Asuka and Rei can be seen topless, like the shower scene from Starship Troopers ), changing the names to be more American (or at least Western ones), all the bad dub nightmares. And then there's the religious overtones, which will be nothing but trouble, no matter how well they are handled. And of course, compressing 26 episodes into a theatrical release length movie will result in a incomprehensible mish-mash of incoherent plot, nonexistent characterization, and random explosions.

I swear to God that the Eva fandom must be the most gullible of all...

Yeah! OMG they won't know what the hell they're doing! ESPECIALLY since I'm SURE Gainax is in NO WAY INVOLVED. It's all gonna SUCK ASS cause people who don't know jack about the anime are gonna make the show (ADV is still ADV, whether they're putting an English voice on your private wet dream-girl or actually giving you a flesh-and-blood person to jack off to), and the CAST! Holy damn hell. Like 95% of those people would EVER want to be involved with an anime-live-action movie. (Osment I can't say for sure, since he's such a niiiice Sora. :D)

Bwahahaha. And these are the same people that will be lining up two days before the premiere so they can feed their Eva addiction. Way to go, fanboys, way to go.

Wank aside, it worries me that the movie has even gotten past the planning stages, since didn't the creator say if he knew Evangelion was going to be watched by westerners he wouldn't have put in any reference to western religion at all? And if they're adapting this for a western audience, isn't it going to be totally different? Why just make an unrelated high-concept movie based loosely on the idea of Evas and Angels? If they're not intentionally changing it ... *flails half-heartedly* It's either going to do really, really well or flop miserably, and the huge potential for it to be a wreck should have scared off any producers. Ah well.

... Moving along ...

Dan and Haley? Wow. I feel dirty just for reading that.

I love how the concept sketches make Asuka look like a total whore. But anyway...

Two good things about this movie:
+ Much fanservice in the uniforms (Prepare your 'pause' button for overuse, folks)
+ WETA's doing it, so it won't suck visually, at least.

You'll notice that some of the images have the names of the Japanime characters changed - e.g. Rei Ayanami = Ray, Asuka Langley = Kate Rose and Misato Katsuragi = Susan Whitnall.

Agreed. It's a required part of the mindset to get through genesis 2-8 until you finally get to the good stuff in 9 onwards.

Does anyone there knows that the "Cast" is actually one of the Wizard magazine 'ideal casts' when they put what the staff of the magazine thinks it's a good cast for the movie?
I don't have the particular issue when they did the "Casting Call" for Evangelion, but it's a regular section and one would think that by now everyone knows that nothing that's its said in that section is true (I mean, long ago they cast Sting as Jhon Constantine in the fictional Sandman movie, and Brad Pitt as The Orphan in the fictional X-Force movie)

I think people will forget the fighting if they see a dramatic scene with shinji crying in the cockpit (a la episode 4 methinks).

I can't tell if this person is serious and it's worrying me. (Just what the American action movie audiences need, a hero who is a total PUSSY.)

The concept art of the evas looks gorgeous (and more organic looking, which me likey), but according to the "rumors" section in the second link, Kate Rose is listed as the name of a costume designer on IMDB.

I do like the idea of Chiaki!Rei and Weaving!Gendo though. And since I turned off my pretentious eva fan years ago, I want to see if this movie can get made just to see more fannish head explosions. XD
