	Mm. They haven't quite gotten to the point of Godwining themselves, but Hitler has been mentioned in the context of "those flying Jews", when someone points out that George Lucas is Jewish, except that that's apparently not true. 	If George Lucas was doing the re-mastering for money, wouldn't releasing both editions of the movie bring him more? Oh well, I almost fell asleep during Star Wars, so I won't be buying it anyway. (Reply to this)

Dude really you can buy the original on vhs form for dirt cheap at places like half price books and pawn shops. I have the orignal box set verison (not SE) that I picked up for 10 bucks.

So long as he doesn't you know re-write the bloody story/plot, I'm not that worried.

Besides, who knows what he could do to the Speical re-mastered re-master collectors DVD box set...

	What got me were the people who were suprised at PA taking potshots at popular entertainment. Did they just not read any of the previous strips? Were they just looking at the pretty pictures? Hmm. Y'know, I've come to the conclusion that I really prefer the original, unaltered movies--because I saw them first. And I'm trying to scale back on buying shit I don't really need on DVD, so I'll happily refrain from buying what to me would be the inferior version of something that isn't a vital part of my library.

That being said, I just absolutely cannot fathom either the vitriol or the stupid some of these people are swimming in. They're not really Lucas's movies--the fuck?

Yes, at a certain point, an artist's work become cultural canon (for people like kosub, that point seems to be "as soon as I get old enough to have disposable income and a grossly overstated sense of entitlement"). But he doesn't lose the right to go back and make changes until he's dead. I'm a noisy critic of modern intellectual property laws, but even I wouldn't try to claim that the original creator should be stripped of the right to alter his own work during his lifetime.

Lucas blows lightsabers and just wants more $$$, but there's really nothing you can do about it. And even if there is, really now - aren't there more important things you can express your views publically on? Instead of, you know, your displeasure with a newly-mastered DVD-set of a space fairy tale movie trilogy?

First much props to PA, that comic was hilarious.

Second I can see both sides of this, the fans are pissed I think they have a right to be pissed about someone fucking over something they care about.

But for Gods sake buying a movie ticket does NOT make a shareholder in Lucasfilms, dressing as Chewbacca at cons doesn't give you some sort of 'rights' to the Star Wars franchise.

Lucas may be batshit but he doesn't *owe* the fans jack shit.

I bought the DVDs. With the surround sound cranked up and the lights turned down, they were awesome -- far better than my old VHS tapes. I don't like all of the changes, but most of them are no big deal.

Oddly enough, my childhood doesn't appear to have been raped. *checks* Nope. No flannel-induced trauma.

If I can write fanfiction about stuff I don't have rights to, Lucas can certainly re-do the stuff he actually owns.

I guess I'm just a tool of Lucasfilm.
