Pokemon Wank [that sounds so wrong]
Now this isn't a LJ or Journal entry but a rant posted on a website, so if this isn't appropriate please let me know.

http://www.geocities.com/rocketshipperwizard/whytr.html

Now this rant is about why the author likes Team Rocket. Nothing wrong with that, I like Jesse and James and got a kick out of them when I still watched the series.

But, well, I'll let the article speak for itself:

Sure, most little kids love Ash and the other twerps. But their love isn't as sincere as those who love Team Rocket, who appeal more to Pokemon's older audience. Being young, their minds aren't developed enough to appreciate such depth in a character nor to continue loving that character for so long, as the younger generation tends to go in and out of so-called "fads" like Pokemon in the blink of an eye.

So not liking TR means 'your love isn't sincere'. Anne Rice is that you?

They don't understand that Anime is different from most American cartoons. There is much more variety of characters with a whole range of personalities to suit anyone of any age and taste (which is why, in Japan at least, Anime is liked by people of all ages and no Anime is "a kid's show").

I'll agree that there seems to be more variety in animated programs in Japan, but no anime series was ever intended for children?

The hell?

So Hamtaro really is an in dept look at the human psyche?

But the so-called "bad guys" of Pokemon, the adorable, comical, and always entertaining Team Rocket have moved me in a very special way, a way that no other character has.

Alrighty then.

The whole thing just comes off as utterly cracktacular.

Take a look for yourself.

Thanks to Sarajaye for showing me the link.

*Eyebleeding bad background warning for the page the rant is on.*

I'll admit I haven't seen Pokemon in a while, but since when did it have character development?

It's minor, but it's there. On pretty much every character *except* the main cast. Even friends-of-the-day get more development than Ash.

Out of the Twerps, I'd say Brock is the most developed one.

Now, while I admit that I fancy TR a *lot* more than the Twerps, people like that make us look bad.

They *do* have more depth than Ash, though. It's not saying much, but they do.

(of course, I still think the person with the most depth in the series is Jirarudan, but that's more due to me sitting my lazy ass down and doing a psychological profile of him. However, I *can* back my conclusions up in canon, so that's better than some...)

But, no matter how hard the American media tries, they can't hide the fact that Team Rocket are the most well developed and best loved characters on the show.

Yes, it's all a vast conspiracy. Vast, I tell you!

Ah, yes... It's the children who are stupid. How dare they like the main hero and cheer whenever poor, poor Team Rocket screws up yet again?! Those jerks! They are too stupid to know better and should wait until they are older to watch Pokemon! :rolls eyes: Jessie and James were my favorite characters behind Sabrina. I used to root for TR just to tick my little brother and sister off.

:sits back and waits for tomorrow when episode 2 shows for another installment of "ONE PIECE IS NOT A KIDS SHOW! THERE IS BLOOD IN IT AND THAT MAKES IT ADULT! 4KIDS IS SATAN AND SHOULD DIIIIIIEEEEEEEE!!1!":

I love how, at the end of her fourteen-paragraph manifesto, she says:

So the next time someone asks you "Why Team Rocket?", just tell them this!

Uh-huh. Right. Personally, I think I'll stick with my answer of "Because they're entertaining, and because they're Very Very Gay. Or at least bi."

Just for the record... this is the woman who refuses to believe that show canon is "real", and has her own "canon" she goes by. It branches off somewhere in the second season, I think. She also has had, in the past (not sure if they're still up on her page), numerous rants about how Ash and company are incredibly cruel, horrific people who enjoy nothing more than emotionally and physically torturing Jessie and James. I'm not kidding. Actually, maybe it's just Ash in her opinion... I think she may have exonerated Misty and Brock after a time. God only knows.

I was into the Pokemon fandom about five years ago, and after following her page for a time, out of morbid fascination, I was truly frightened.

Heh, no problem. When I saw it my rant alarm went off cause it's QOR-related and all...but reading through certain bits, it sounds like she's trying to make her assumptions sound like FACT. Especially Jessie, James and Meowth's pasts...she uses the facts, but embellishes an awful lot.

As for Hamtaro, I've seen mentions of Kana/Laura shoujo ai, but that's about it.

Wait, is this that same woman who read some depressing Jessie/James deathfic, then in response rewrote that fics ending so it was a happy fluffy ending?

I'll nerver ferget that, if only fer da fact that James was wearing a shirt that said "A Warm Place" and all I could think of was that NIN song and how out of place that seemed in such a happy rewrite.

Pokemon? Character development? Obviously I've been watching the wrong TV series.

Maybe someone forgot to tell this woman that it is a fucking cartoon - it does not require deep philosophical thought because half of the point of cartoons is to allow one's brain to turn into mush!
(The other half of the point is to look for hints of shounen-ai. Obviously.)

Then how does this explain Dogtato, a series of shorts about a Dog-potato, who lives in a world of hedgehog-tatoes, onion-crocodiles, cucumbirds and cherry-bats?
Is it secretly a new look at Animal Farm?

I am so frellin' glad I left Pokemon fandom back when the reigning Queen of Rocketshippers was not this Cori Falls idiot, but Chibi Team Rocket, and the worst Rocketshippy fics out there were RocketJesse's "OMGJESSIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEE! *slitzwristsdiez*" James fics.
