Online Game wank
Planet DarkAges is a forum based on a multi-online RPG called Dark Ages. It's a house of wank, just browsing some of the topics there could amuse you for hours on end.

But today's wank is something else.

In recent news, Nexon, the company, fixes two bugs, one of them which has been around for well over a year and that people have abused constantly through.

The spoolge flies in the thread shortly after that.

Omg, you mean I have to SPEND TIME on my character!?

PDA is teh ebil because they brought a BUG to attention!

You are making this game less fun by putting in a challenge!

Dudes, chill out!

Why 'fixing a bug' is st00pid

Omg, I'm gonna QUIT!

Fixing this bug = being a nerf

stfu already and DEAL!

I dun wanna be challenged, it's too tedious!

Honestly, I couldn't get through the last two pages. :P

My opinion? On one hand, Nexon should've finished this sooner before people relied on it so heavily. On the other hand, people did abuse a bug and if Nexon truly wanted to be evil, they'd block anyone who abused this bug, but then again, judging from how many people abuse this bug, they'd end up blocking half the population.

And look what you missed!

Everybody did it!

Unforgivable! I shall make a Comic of Protest! Ooh, look, a sense of humor.

Oh yeah? Well, I'M COOLER THAN YOU!

I have no idea what half of them are talking about and it's still hilarious.

I see nerf is used in more things than for SWG.

It's pretty much universal. I first saw it used on Diablo II forums.

I actually played this game some time ago and I still don't know.

That reminds me of my little brother. He's the type that always plays with a strategy guide and searching cheats online. And I'm wondering, what's the point of playing at all if there's no challenge?

Today's youth, I tell ya.

What's the point in playing if you can't actually get anywhere or do anything in the game?

I'll get back to you on that when I'm actually in that situation. It's not like I'd never used a guide to get all the superduper secret thingies, but actually making progress? Never been that hard.

Or would you prefer me to trot out a l33t smugly superior gamer grrl card and start stroking it?

Guides are good if you're totally stuck and can't do anything. But you shouldn't rely on them 100% of the time.

I'm using some guides when I'm playing Star Ocean 3 now (Lord knows I can't be bothered to play around with the item creation system for 300+ hours), but I don't rely on guides for my whole play.

Why play a game when you're just going to look everything up and basically have someone else do 90% of the work for you? If I have to constantly look stuff up for a game, well, it must not be a very fun game. :P

This goes for Gameshark plays too. It sort of defeats the purpose of a game if there's no challenge to it, in my opinion.

Online games are a little different, but still, if you have to rely 90% on a guide, maybe it's time to move onto another game.

Depends on what parts of the game the guide's about. If it's, say, a guide for an RPG telling you what all the weapons do or at what level the characters gain new skills, that's different than a guide that tells you how to get through the block puzzle in the third dungeon, isn't it?

You don't have to be stuck to use a guide. You could just be relying on the nice internet people who have way too much free time and have figured out exactly what algebraic equation figures out whether your Pokemon will have good or bad stats. :3

Taking a wild guess here, maybe because people who do that personally find it more fun to play that way? You know, the same way some people love spoilers for TV series, and some people say what's the point of watching the show if you know what's going to happen? Personal taste.

Or let's say, relying on cheats and guided 100% of the time. Yeah, personal preference and all [info]manna said, it's just not my preference. I prefer the feeling of accomplishment when a tough puzzle is done or I beat up a hard boss monster with all my party alive.

But, you know, after I've completed a game once, I can play it again for fun with every cheat I can find.

Always amazes me when people exploit a glitch and then cry nerf when it's fixed.

Your icon gives my icon much love.

As for the wank, uhm. Talk about taking advantage of a situation. -Yikes-.
