Current mood:*thud*

We may be small, but we're still wanky
First wank posted, be gentle, etc. Wank still ongoing, but amusing. QAF-US fandom.

It starts when revenentrose, a Brian/Michael shipper, posts a long, long essay on her journal discussing "how can they get rid of Ben and Justin? Which, of course, will naturally lead to Michael and Brian falling into each other’s arms." She posts the link around and asks for comments from Brian/Justin and Ben/Michael shippers.

Wank ensues on the original thread, proving yet again that people really can argue the exact same question nonstop for four years without getting tired of it for an instance.

My personal favorites:

How old is old?: Do you honestly think Brian at... what? 32?... is ready to "grow old gracefully?" Or to grow old at all? He's 32, not 82 for Christ's sake! How the fuck old do you think 32 is?

A defense? Now why would I need one of those: As for a defense of B/J... I don't need one. They are together. The only "defense" of their relationship that I need will be in the final 13 episodes of the show, coming to Showtime sometime in the Spring of 2005.

Just keep those uncircumstandtial B/Jers jumping like bugs: And obviously contains some things that B/Jers feel the need to analyze down to the tiniest detail, since they jumped it like bugs to a bright light, so I think you hit the right notes. ;) I've enjoyed reading their varying opinions, though deluded and uncircumstandtial at times.

But post-it note babies are good!: Typically when I click on links I end up pulling out my hair, wondering WHY, GOD WHY?!! But not today. :D I love this post. I want to cuddle it, marry it, and have its little post-it notes babies.

Put that brain away and you too can appreciate the pretty!: Oh, noooo! You've gone over to the dark side! Lol, j/k I agree with you on a shallow level. I enjoy B/J, too, sometimes. Like I told somebody else, if I leave my brain by the wayside I enjoy B/J very much.

So which is it going to be? Deep thoughts? Or fanfic?: B/J shippers have more fanfic, and B/M shippers have more deep thoughts. Er, posts about B/M. I've not seen any pro-B/J posts that elaborate beyond, "So, what was your favorite B/J sex scene?"

Both sides are happily wanking away. Enjoy.

I think I'm more disturbed that the ship names are B/J and B/M.

I will not wank. I will not wank. I will not wank.

**sigh** I wonder how long this arguement will continue after the show is gone? If whatever Cowlip decides to do with s5 will be accepted? (no, probably not)

In any case... wow.

So *real* love is a never ending roller coaster of highs and lows where the people involved will most likely end up destroying each other.

*Fake* love is a relationship without drama, where the couple gets along with each other, understands each other, and won't end up killing themselves.

And this *fake* love is what we have to avoid at all costs.

Ooookaaaaayyyyy.

Icz

Yes. Fake love is to be discouraged. Real love must be embraced! Embraced in a death grip! Because otherwise... real love will run away with a fiddle player.

Or something.

I don't know.

The reason I like B/J better than B/M is because the B/J pairing does not contain a character played by an actor who makes me feel compelled to drive an ice pick through his skull whenever he opens his mouth.

It's a thing.

Die, Hal Sparks, DIE. Take your "I-graduated-with-highest-honors-and-as-valedictorian-from-the-Whiny-School-of-Acting" method and DIE.

Well, he was tolerable in Dude, Where's My Car, where he played a whiny, egomaniacal, socially retarded loser with an inexplicable following. I.e., himself.

I admit I've never seen it.

I agree totally with whiny and socially retarded. I also sort of get a very insecure feeling from him. I mean, it's totally warranted, but he broadcasts it.

While a decent essay describing her beliefs, I find it really sad that the comments got wanky. People are entitled to their own opinions, but I find it sad that time and time again we're subjected to the "Brian+Mikey=Luv4eva" or "Brian/Justin r teh otp!!11 ^_^;;!!1" type of comments.

Perhaps CowLip will kill everyone off in the final episode so that there can be no discussion as to the final pairing....

Same here.

Or maybe CowLip will throw us a HUGE curveball, like having Justin end up with Chris Hobbs because he's really a gay boy, or having Brian die of that cancer that is supposedly in remission. That would definitely solve everything-- dead!Brian = no B/M or B/J.

... now there's an idea!

Yep. True in any fandom, actually.

I was speaking more in a general sense, so sorry if I didn't make that clear-- I just arrived home after a very exhausting (yet fun!) trip to Vegas and I wasn't really thinking clearly. Hehe. Too much alcohol.

Anyway, to add on to the original thought that I had, I've seen this post referenced on various "friends" entries on my LiveJournal-- and for the most part THOSE were the ones that featured the silly comments in regards to ships.

This makes me so thankful the UK version was so short. And that the relationships actually made sense there.
Unlike pretty much everything on the US version.

I watched the UK version in 2000 (maybe early 2001?) on VHS a friend sent me. I really enjoyed it, and it was better for its shorter length, but I really felt like the Vince/Stuart (that was their names, right? I only watched it the once) ending felt kind of tacked on.

[info]thwackboom

Hmm. I like the dynamic between Vince and Stuart far better than Brian and Michael since you could actually understand that Vince and Stuart were really friends and you could undestand why, a feeling the US version could never instill upon me. I think the ending feels abrupt, but not entirely out of place. The series was, after all, very short.

According to Russel T Davies, the creator, that was actually supposed to be a non-ship ending.

I feel the same exact way. It's fun reading about the "who will win Brian" wanks because it's been like this season the beginning of season 1. Nothing EVER changes.

Hooboy. QaF US for me is, in short, love the show, hate the fans (for the most part, anyway).

I want to wank for B/J and write a fic where Brian & Michael have sex and both of them are like, "Shit, dude, that was the lamest sex I've ever had.. But hey, see you around!"

I love your idea.

Michael has been waiting for what? 15+ years? for Brian to finish that handjob.

I don't see it happening. They love each other in a way that isn't really conducive to sex. (I know, i married the Michael half of a Brian/Michael pair. Does that make me Ben?)

Well of course people hate Hal and why shouldn't they. He's the only cast member stupid enough to actively promote the show. He has no qualms in going on a talk show and announcing how important the show was and could be. He has no qualms in being actively involved in and having his face and name associated with Gay Marriage rights or AIDS walk or Pride activities.

He's straight...doesn't the guy get it that his opinions don't count? That they don't matter? Geez! Less Hal! Less Michael and more Brian/Justin hump fest!!!
