Rules are for LOSERS.
tipgardner seems to think that he(?) is doing a favor to fanfiction communities by posting on them, and therefore should crosspost to every community on LJ but not follow specific community posting rules, y'know, 'cos it wouldn't be fun anymore.

[Just for the record, everyone's being super-sweet in the comments. It's the post itself that amused the heck out of me. Enjoy.]

Maybe I'm not catching something here, but it seems to me from the post that he made a mistake in the order of information he posted in the header on his fic - and promptly apologized for it. He also did not mention the comm or mods by name - all in all, his post didn't strike me as being all that wanky.

However, the mod that gave him the smackdown is wanking all over the place, and that causes me much amusement. My favorite part was when he/she insisted that the "kink" of the story be listed in the header so as to warn readers about what is in the fic, so that they aren't surprised....ummm, if you've joined a community called hp_kink, wouldn't you already KNOW what the fics there will be about??

Still, it was a nice find - thanks for sharing it!

It seemed to me that the OP was bitching because he shouldn't have to post according to community rules because he's special and is doing the communities a favor by posting in them because people are in the communities because they want to read his fics. (Frankly, I've never heard of the guy until now.) That was the part I found wanky. I mean, the pretension - it burns.

Then again, I could have misunderstood his post completely. It's been known to happen.

I am blessed to have an incredible, intelligent, supportive flist and a perfect circle of acquaintences and friends, all of whom can compliment me even when offering constructive criticism.

At the same time, as with anyone who is exhibitionist enough to write porn for even more strangers than friends, I am always interested in reading what new readers of my work have to say about it and in reaching new readers altogether. How is one to do that?

Well, one could win the Golden Shovel award for taking one's self Way Too Seriously.

I think I'm doing a decent thing for comms by giving them some traffic and I get a lot of positive responses to most of the fics I post at comms.

Decency in porn! Yes! Oh wait... No! NO NO NO! Off with his head!

I'm also not certain if it should matter at all that I am far and away the most freqent poster to that comm and probably also the first.

Well, not necessarily, because there are a lot of different kinks. Like...I'm a big giant wimp and don't like sharp things so I would generally avoid bloodplay fics, and so the kink part of the header would allow me to skip the fic as I went along to whatever I might be looking for.

As a co-mod of hp_kink, I just want to chime in that you (and readers like you) are precisely why we're insistent that kinks be listed in more than general terms. Hell, there are kinks I don't like and won't read. And when I put the posts in the memories of the comm I shouldn't have to read something that'll bother me, just like everyone else.

I've never heard of this guy, but then again I don't read to much slash porn so I don't know many writers from that genre. But if this "Diva" (or anyone with the same mindset) posted in one of my communities and disregarded the community's rules, I would bitchslap him from here to Timbuktu.

Communities/websites/message boards/groups have rules for a reason. Damn it! Yes, rules can be flexible if both parties agree. Not this "I'm SOMEBODY! I don't need rules!" attitude. I am much more willing to work with someone who joins, reads all the rules, and acts modestly. I hate those divas that have no backing or only yes friends as their "beloved fans".

I don't even start to assume people even know who I am, I'm actually shocked when people do know who I am.

Some people are just too egotistical for their own good.
