Does it count as wank if one side has no idea of the controversy they've set off?

Neva Chonin writes an article for San Fransico Chronicle Young Gay Men. Young Gay Men Having Sex about women who like to watch Queer as Folk.

Fortunately, Paul Alley is there to set her straight on how female sexuality works.

Editor -- While Neva Chonin's comments in "Live! Rude! Girl" (Sept. 12) on the television series "Queer as Folk" were wickedly funny, I must take issue -- affectionately, of course -- with a point or two on women and gay sex. Even as a staunch supporter of parity between the sexes, I find it patently absurd to put straight women's interest in gay sex on a par with the obsession of straight men for girl-on-girl "action." Clearly the majority of women are not seriously aroused by scenes of sex between men. Female sexuality just doesn't work that way. Additionally, Chonin's high praise for the comeliness of the "QaF" cast has me wondering whether we're watching the same program. Judged by the pumped-up "looks-ist" standards of Hollywood, these guys are disappointing at best. In fact, it is the soap opera that fits the straight female libido. The soaps present an almost embarrassing abundance of male pulchritude, and they dish it up in the context of an indulgent kind of storytelling, swollen with intimate character development and "hetero-erotic" plotlines. How can "QaF" compete?

Paul Alley, San Francisco

QaF and slash fans get really really pissed and start a lj/letter to the editor/petition dear_mralley.

I'm sooooo glad we have people like Mr. Alley here to put women in their place tell us the sekrits of the female libido.

I would like to tell him that he can and should sit on his soap operas and rotate.

Ten pages of "Word!/Preach it sister!/Dear Mr. Alley - you suck!" and variants of "You don't tell me how my sexuality works - not you, mister!", yes?

Can we get a metaquotes summary?

You know, for a long time I've been really confused about my sexuality. Sometimes I liked guys 'n girls, sometimes girls 'n girls, sometimes guys 'n guys... It was befuddling and frightening! Not to mention unseemly. I'm so glad this fellow came along to clear things up for me. Have never been attracted to guys on guys, my sexuality doesn't work that way!

I believe said it best in this awesome wank: I've ranted before on this, please refer to my 3,000-page manifesto "If You Think Human Sexuality Is All About Who Is The Slot And Who Is The Tab, Fuck You Lots."

Ugh...now, I like watching Soap Operas time to time, but definitely not because of the men.

Because they always manage to get the skeeziest guys on there! It's like...they pick either the dude who played the college guy who raped his high school girlfriend in an ABC Afterschool special, or Lance Corporal Steroids (of the neckless, fake-baked, raccoon-eyed variety).

And then they never have their shirts on. It's like, they're running around everywhere, and I mean ANYWHERE- hospital, elementary school, Store 24, nunnery- waving their unnaturally large manboobs in everyone's face. It's so tacky.

Paul Alley has obviously never watched Days of Our Lives.

Why is there never any QAFUK wank? Or, well, just any QAF UK anything? The guys were way fitter.

Thinking about it - sexual tension between guys turns me on. When they actually get it together I get bored again. And as or soap operas, I generally only watch if the paper says there is sexual tension. Or listen, in the case of The Archers. Otherwise, I really can't stand the things.

Clearly the majority of women are not seriously aroused by scenes of sex between men.

Heh. I find it absolutely baffling that it's perfectly acceptable for men to be lesbian sex (or, in the case of porn and laddie mags, "sex")... but that if women are aroused by gay male sex, they are automatically "deviant" and "abnormal."

Seriously. Is it the "men are sex-crazed, woman are naturally pure" 17th century dichotomy we're up against here? Or is just some sort of weird soceital situation where gay women are allowed to be sexual... and gay men aren't?
