Low and behold, with the creation of http://www.narutofan.com 's message boards comes with it multiple instances of wank. Where to begin? So many good choices!

Killer_UK makes a post in the Misc. Section about why FUNImation is a horrible dubbing company.

S/he writes:
it is just me or is this stupid american company eating away at all the good animes japan are churning out. i mean wot the hell is goin on?!?!?!
we're lucky that those bastards aint taken naruto yet, but come on other good anime are gone now

Hard to believe that s/he is ONLY 18.

Baka_San on page two of the post brings in from left field the infamous 4-kids entertainment dubbing company.

4kids should be shot. They just butcher everything they get their dirty little hands on. Bastards...

More wank ensues-- including Hinatalovesme getting defensive over Killer_UK making nasty comments about Hinata and taking it personally. Definitely keep your eyes peeled on this one...


The other selection(s) that I have brought to attention today are from the Fanclub section of the Narutofan forums. In theory, the Fanclubs were supposed to be for your favorite characters, but there are multiple character bashing threads. Mods haven't done anything yet, so I'm patiently waiting for when the Pro-character and Anti-Character people meet up and have posting wars.

The Anti-Sasuke Fanclub" is lead by TheMadFish who character bashes Sasuke and manages to get 13 followers to follow his lead-- complete with the cute graphic of:


The anti-sakura fanclub"> is lead oddly enough by Uchiha_sasuke and definitely is the wankiest of the three.

This is a group for ppl like me who think Sakura Haruno is a hell-a-annoying character up to the point where you want her to be killed off from the series in the most horrid of ways. -- Uchiha_sasuke

Maybe i can get the mood up a bit?

There's also a slight Pro-Anti-Sakura post war on that thread as well. Some posters try to make sense of the situation by posting thoughts that are atleast neutral and intelligent (ie: Sakura has so much potential, and I've been waiting for her to have more of a role in the saga - post on page 4).

Alas, this is just a few of the MANY semi-wanky moments.

Poor Sakura. I don't want to bash her, mostly because I love Inner Sakura, but the girl does spend a hell of a lot of time just... standing there.

I don't see what the problem with Funimation is, but that's mostly because the first anime DVDs I bought were Dragonball Z; the Funimation quality was so much higher than the Pioneer dubs that Funi still looks golden to me.

I like pioneer's dubbing. Of course, I've never seen the Pioneer DBZ dubs vs the Funi dubs.

That said, Pioneer's probably the only big company that still turns in a decent dub. ADV's fallen into the "hit or miss" catagory.

Software Sculptors is another good dub.

Well she's also screams 'Sasuke' a lot, and is utterly obsessed with a guy who's both batshit crazy, and wouldn't piss on her if she was on fire.

*yawn* There needs to be a Juris Imprudence law against bringing up Pearl Harbor in discussions about Americans and anime... if there isn't one already.

(There also should be one against blaming crappy anime and crappy anything-else-that-comes-from-Japan on the Japanese being bitter over losing WWII.)

Yer kidding. Even my generation (I'm Vietnam generation old) thought of Pearl Harbor as ancient history when we were kids. (Most of the crappy stuff was being made in Mexico and China by then.)

And I agree. One of the main reasons my dad got so angry about me liking anime when I first started was because of what the Japanese did in WW2. I'm like, wow, that was a long damn time ago, and no one in the family was in that war. Bitch, please?

I was shocked that it took THIS long for this to happen. 103 episodes in with over 230 manga chapers-- and I don't exactly recall seeing anything posted before.

This just proves that ALL fandoms are a tad wanky.

Isn't that cute though, little baby wanks about little baby ninjas. Give it time. Nicely meta too, because the manga/anime creators never forget that their characters are only twelve--so it makes a kind of odd sense that the fans should proceed to act the same age themselves.

I could never get into Naruto. After the first tournament, or whatever it was, I decided that every character in the entire show were super speshul mary sues or gary stus and gave up. The only characters that I even remotely liked were Naruto and Kakashi. The rest of them could blow themselves up for all I care. :D

We watched a couple episodes every week in anime club last semester. I lost interest during the storyline about the guy trying to build the bridge, because it seemed like every episode had like five flashbacks repeating the same two minutes of footage, and I got bored and started bringing my GBA to showings to kill time until we got to whatever else was on.

By the time they got out of that and to the point where (I am told) the series is actually pretty good, I was too firmly entrenched in playing Fire Emblem every week to really give a damn.

A few weeks ago I was at a convention with a friend, who was dressed as Sexy No Jutsu. Oxymoronic as the idea of a clothed Sexy No Jutsu is (family con), it isn't nearly as strange as the Naruto fan in the volunteer room who felt the need to berate my friend's costume for being "incorrect". He proceeded to mumble something about a bath-house episode (I haven't actually seen the show, but my friend, who has, says she doesn't even remember that one) and then to say, "Dude. Have you even SEEN Naruto?" To my friend's credit, she remained admirably calm. But afterward, we had a good laugh at his expense. What amused me the most as a fan of the Japanese language, though, was that this self-proclaimed Naruto guru couldn't even pronounce the name of his own favorite show properly. Now, I understand not everyone wants to know Japanese. I don't really care if they don't. But, if someone is going to be all high-and-mighty about knowing every last detail about an anime, one would think knowing how to say the show's name, without sounding so ridiculous as to make even a non-native speaker cringe, ought to be somewhat important.

But then, I'm a bit of a wanker myself, I guess. ;)
