Leaky Cauldron Rocks the Vote
In Harry Potter Fandom, The Leaky Cauldron posted Declare Yourself to Vote, a stirring call to the November polls. Predicably, along with the "Thanks Leaky Cauldron!" comments, some fans have their robes in a bunch and are protesting the post. Someone complains that "everyone knows these efforts will bring out more votes for Kerry," while others maintain that Harry Potter fans are made up from politics of all stripes, even the "book-burning Republicans."

Barb says: "Personally, I feel that if we get a huge voter turnout, I would be comfortable with whomever we elect as President ... because it would mean that a majority of the people had spoken. My greatest fear is that 30 or 40 percent of the voting public will decide the election in November."

Ken (yes, really, Barb and Ken) rebuts: "What is the point of encouraging people to vote? Just to raise a percentage? How does it help us to choose the best leader by encouraging people to cast a random uninformed vote? I'd much rather have 25% of informed voters casting votes, than 75%, where 50% are voting for whatever candidate they last heard "something" about recently." Ken then asks the admin: "When do you feel it's appropriate to use your readership to advance your personal pet issues?"

Melissa the admin gets a little pissed: "Never. THat's not what we're doing right now. It's ridiculous to call this a personal pet issue when it's quite possibly the most important issue in our country today - as it affects all other important issues in our country today. You said you didn't mean to be intentionally snide but I take calling this a 'personal pet issue' a tremendous insult."

You have your "I agree with Ken" party, the obligatory "can't we all just get along" faction, and "Vote for Dobby!" In addition, though the TLC did not endorse any candidate, they did mention Bush and Kerry by name, and the significance of naming BUSH first is being as hotly debated as who rose from the table of thirteen first in The Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry or Ron?

This Declare Yourself to Vote post has garnered a respectable 465 comments as of this post. Read, and enjoy the blessed release.
