You can't spell 'Cosplay' with out 'Dramarama'
The best part is that I found this purely by acident.

Starts off like typical cosplay senario. Cosplayer A: Despite being a little heavy set posts her costume in [info]cosplay.
(Note. Links apear to be broken)
Everyone over all leaves pretty possitive comments

Then someone pulls the obligatory cosplay "UR 2 FAT!!!!" wank.

Of course other members quickly come to her defence and [info]taiki our bringer of fair and balaned honest opinion is HENCE AND FORTH BANISHED!

This would be good and wanky enough, but it's not the end. [info]taiki gets permision from the admin at [info]cosplay_com to tell everyone how MEEN PPL R!

And we have our dramarama again

First is anyone else having issues with the pic? It just won't load for me for some reason.

I think wank is coming from both sides. Taiki had a point, some costumes just aren't gonna look good on certain body types, but I think he was being a bit of a jerk about it.

I think the mod and some members were being defensive, but I think there were other issues at work.

Okay, I was really curious about the pic, but had problems too. If you look at the source then copy and paste the first part of the URL - http://onlinerock.com/services/chibiyunie/ - and then add the second part to the end - picture_583.jpg - you should be able to see it. I could, at least.

Also, I love this little jem from taiki:
The truth here is my opinion.

Excuse me while I laugh uncontrollably.

The pictures wouldn't load this morning, but they're loading now.

Taiki had a point, some costumes just aren't gonna look good on certain body types, but I think he was being a bit of a jerk about it.

The thing is, when I couldn't see the pictures this morning, from Taiki's comments I was expecting to see this grotesque 800 lb morbidly bovine creature in a thong and pasties or something. I mean, let's face it, some of the cosplay wank we've seen on F_W hasn't been too far off from that, and hey, more power to them, but posting pictures of yourself on the 'Net is like posting fanfic... you're going to be perceived as asking for feedback, and sometimes that feedback is going to be less than kind.

But pixiewhatever? She may indeed be a little, uh, "statuesque," but she looks pretty good to me. She's a pretty girl, and her costume and hair are way cute.

Maybe it's just from growing up in Miami, but I guess I've just been raised to appreciate Cuban-sized bigger-than-conventional booties. But Taiki was being a plain ole h8er.

And we all know if you CAN, you SHOULD.

Fashion Police, coming right up...
[info]adora_spintriae
2004-10-04 12:50 pm UTC (link)
I don't get it. The supposedly "trolling" post made total sense to me. Dress suitable to your bodysize and shape and colouring/complexion, no matter what you're wearing. There was no "omg u r 2 fat" post, just a "nice costume, but you look shit in it" which I have to agree with. The whole "teh intranet doesn't like you" thing is a bit out there though.

Then again, maybe I live in teh Land of Logic where normal style rules still apply to cosplay outfits, and not teh Land of Wherever the Fuck That Chick Lives.

Those photos give me headaches. Is she trying to be arty by using 45 degree angles or something? Someone should tell her it's not working.

Teh comment wank made me laugh though.

and I look damn hot

NO! YOU DON'T! It doesn't matter if you weighed 450 kilos or 65 kilos, that green is just not your colour. It makes you look pink and blotchy and gross, no matter how well the costume is made. All your love of the character will no change this fact.

I think what weirded me was that she kept saying she was so hot and a lot of people say so too and how's that not masturbatory to the ninth degree? If a conventionally pretty girl made the same statements, she would have been pointed fingers at from all sides as a vain egomaniacal airhead. And I am probably missing something, because Taiki didn't sound that rude to me. He just expressed an opinion, with which I don't necessarily agree with, but still - it's criticism of a cosplay, not of a person.

Of course, the fact that he pitched a drama about it the other community is just as funny.

Yeah, but what I see isn't, "Wow, I really don't think that green is right for you," but rather "WTF is wrong with you?" There is such a thing as constructive criticism, rare as it is. Pointing out that the green outfit makes you look pink? Constructive. "Don't be surprised that the rest of the internet does not like you"? Not. Constructive.

I'm sort of of two minds on the body type issue; part of me likes to see a person in an outfit that 'matches,' but the other half of me says, 'and there are about three women in the world who are skinny and have big boobs, so maybe not.'

Wow. phantasmrose sure likes her caps. Given, that's her only "OMG MAYBE IF I SPELL IT OUT TO YOU LIKE THIS YOU WILL UNDERSTAND!!!!"-type of comment.

If the community really has a rule about saying if you don't like the costume, don't say so, then that's wanky as hell. I mean, I think some constructive criticism should be allowed. Some tips about making costumes and such - wouldn't sharing some just be helpful and nice?

All negative comments can be worded differently and turned into nice, constructive feedback. IMO, at least.

It's not a proper freak out until there's caps lock!

Exactly. There is not a rule against con crit, but there is a rule requiring tact, and a rule against instigating flame wars. It makes me really, really sad that I have to have that rule, but unfortunately, there's a lot of really bored, snarky people and a lot of hypersensitive people all in that community, and if people are allowed to be heartless when they "critique", it causes massive explosions of wank.

Seriously? People call THAT fat? You must be kidding me. I'm a fat ass and that is so not fat. She's a little curvy.

It's true people should dress to suit their body size but that suits her body size just fine. It's the same as one-piece bathing suit, for god's sake. And the topic in question is the way she is dressing, by the way, not the camera angles; I agree they are a little bit annoying, but that doesn't really have anything to do with the wank.

And personally, I think a person saying "I'm hot" is far less masturbatory than someone constantly saying "I'm so fat I'm so ugly please tell me I'm not and love me" which one hears all the time.

i got banned from the community for saying her boobs were hanging out of her Yuna costume and that a lot of conventions would ask her to change. (BECAUSE HER BOOBS WERE HANGING OUT OF THE COSTUME!!!)

Somehow she (and the moderator) translated that into "OMG! U R SO FAT!!!" So they banned me.

I'm a happier person since they did. That community blows monkey balls.

Well, it's nice to see that class and dignity are still alive online, isn't it?

im around the same body type as her, and im a guy.

So, given that most of the wank on the second community revolved around the cosplayer's boobs allegedly hung out of her costume, is this guy saying "I HAVE BOOBIES!!!!"?

Jeebus. All this wank over fat cosplayers. For goodness sakes, I've seen the girl at a con, she does make good costumes in person (I can honestly say that the one I saw her in looked like crap in photos, but awesome when I saw it). So, if the issue is her quality, like some people are making it out to be, they need to shut up.
Second, will someone please shut up about body types! Someone in there said that only asian girls were skinny enough, but they didn't have boobs - wtff? As a 5'3, 100-pound girl, I'm vaguely insulted. Actually, I'm constantly insulted when it comes to the whole "fat cosplayer" myth. Trust me, the scrawny cosplayers without boobs are JUST as stupid looking in their costumes, that being the reason that the only female I've ever played was Integra Hellsing. If anyone was at Ushicon last year and saw the Sango without the armour, yeah. She looked pretty crappy, right? (Only I have a right to call my Rhia-chan crappy, btw. >=D) Because she's too skinny.
Fat cosplayers and skinny cosplayers alike don't look perfect. Nor do ugly cosplayers. (Remember, being a skinny ugly cosplayer, I have a right to make bad jokes. >=D) Anime women are an unrealistic ideal. No one will look like them, believe me. So if she's having fun dressing up in silly outfits, let her. You don't have to look if you don't want to.

Sure she's curvey...and I don't doubt that that's natural...but she's also fat and shouldn't be wearing a one piece bathing suit without the properly attached, unconventional skirt. If you can't see your crotch, take a run for the sake of being able to stick your finger in the right hole (or grab the right thing for that matter) the first time.

Scratch that, I just don't want to see boobs and crotches popping out in front of me little children. Always about the little children.

I really hate the whole "you are too fat to cosplay that character" wank. The point of cosplay is not to actually look like the characters in question; it's to dress in silly costumes. End of story.

Personally, I would have attached a skirt or something, but that has nothing to do with her body type.

Well, I think that while the top was great, she should have used a tiny skirt or shorts if she wanted to look her best. Learning to dress in a way that flatters your shape is a good thing. That being said, it wasn't that bad - so while I wouldn't have said anything either way, I can't fault Taiki for what she said.

(1) She's not fat at all.

(2) There is no rule that says fat people can't cosplay and I'm sick of people who pretend that there is.

(3) Thath aving been said, fat people (really fat, as in over 200 pounds) might want to think twice about wearing Spandex. (Yes, this happens far too often.)
